It sure got shut down mighty fast, and that's what I don't get. The hardware project, since mid-April, divorced itself from that hot-potato, and a bit later the project owner simply stated he could not devote cycles to it anymore. Then a couple of days ago he seemed to find someone who could help with a critical part of the software design to make the *hardware* work better. Then "Poof!" Gone again. Don't get it. You'd think we were discussing the building and deployment of a DIY nuclear warhead :-) So -- if it's not part of the contested project, let's move it forward! [slim] High-end, low-cost hardware player
A prominent post in the last two days mentioned this: > The driver is designed to work with Triode's SoA project, it is currently already working with SoA. SOthat got me thinking. What would the reason be for not being able to design, and discuss here, a high-end, low-cost hardware player (along the lines of Picoplayer)? All people seem to want is a good player/DAC in a Squeezebox touch-like enclosure that has 2015-level audio performance in the digital and analog domain, that works with LMS. [slim] Now that the dust has settled...
Over the last few weeks there's been threads on "Marketing missteps", "Competition surpassing Squeeze...", and many comments along the likes of "...for the survival of Squeeze products...". The central component of each of these threads, in my mind, point to one thing -- the effects of the seemingly wholesale gutting of Slim Devices' development and marketing resources. Is the reason for being of Slim -- reasonably priced, high-quality streaming audio-only gear -- no longer relevant in today's customer base? Now that the "dust has settled" on Logitech's reorg, I'm curious to hear Logitech's take on the Slim acquisition and what it intends to do with the line moving forward. I must give credit to those left in Squeeze group for doing a fantastic job with the resources they have. You all have done a fantastic job! I just don't understand Logitech's long-term goals with such a reduced staff. -- mbonsack mbonsack's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74818 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The following is a start/stop sequence from SqueezeCenter 7.0. The "file not found" is from trying to access the settings for the SuperDateTime plugin. I'm simply asking for some insight into what Slim's criteria for the 6.5.1 (or any) release are and when *they* feel the release is ready. I've also been asking about an official 6.5.1 release date in the beta forum for quite some time; the replies have been mainly "It will be ready when it's ready." I do think that 3 months for a third-level dot release is a little long; but more frustrating is the lack of information about what is holding up the release (other than what can be gleaned via Bugzilla) and what particular bugs they feel they must be fixed prior to release. Though there are differing opinions on the matter, I feel that getting a reasonable 6.5.1 out there sooner for reviewers and the general public to feel better about the product makes sense, following up with a 6.5.2 or whatever to finish up. -- mbonsack mbonsack's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30595 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

That would enable the general user community be able to take adavantage of the many 6.2.2 server fixes without worrying about whether the FW would introduce new issues (stuttering, etc). It would also provide reviewers who might desire or be obligated to review only production code to obtain the latest sound and functionality available, which we know has undergone significant improvement since 6.2.1. Thanks for making this Slim stuff so fun! I have to admit, though, I'm a bit confused by the new version. I can' seem to figure out when the new header is updated. When I scan to the end, it just stops, and if I wait for a song change nothing happens either, as you say. Furthermore, often the bottom scan indicator is out of synch with the header at the top. Only when I let music play for awhile do things seem to sort themselves out. I guess my main question is why this plugin is even necessary. Right now I have my screensaver set to progress bar when music is playing. Why couldn't the up/down buttons on the remote just use that for real-time scanning, while also showing the progress through the song? This would make it operate like, say, Windows media player where you just slide the bar to wherever in the song you want. Since we only have buttons on a remote, with no mouse to select an arbitrary point, the method you use for scanning (progressively faster as you hold it down) would work fine. I could care less about audio feedback; I just want to go quickly to a particular spot. As an aside, can anyone shed any light on why the stock Slimserver scanning seems so primitive? -- mbonsack ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It would be great if the "up/down" buttons used to operate the plugin would work directly on the progress bar in the screensaver rather than having to navigate to the plugin. Also, I've noted that when the plugin is active and the song transitions to the next one, you have to exit the plugin and re-enter it to get a "reset" on the progress bar for that tune.
