Re: [slim] PCMag review of Touch

2010-05-13 Thread newy

He's right. What is the point of having a touch screen if it supposed to
be used with an A/V system which is probably IR controlled? The SB3 or
Transporter are much more appropriate and easier to read than the SB
Touch and the SB Radio and SB Boom, with their built in speakers, are
much more appropriate for almost any other application. To me, and I
may be wrong, the SB Touch totally misses the mark, whatever that mark
is.

They should have combined the Radio and the Touch into one product.

To me it just seems like a touch screen would be way more suited to the
Radio so that I could actually use it. To each their own though I
guess - I'm sure the Touch fits some consumers setups/needs perfectly.

Re: [slim] PCMag review of Touch

2010-05-13 Thread newy

IMO, the SB Radio would be better suited to a bedside headphone rig as
it could double as an alarm clock (if the alarm was reliable!). I
think the same applies to most desktop situations. I do see the
argument for it to be wall mounted although there are probably better
options...

I love my SBoxes (when they work) but to me, and obviously that
reporter/reviewer, the Touch misses it's mark, whatever mark that was.

Re: [slim] Computer Won't Stay In Standby Mode When SqueezeCenter Is Running

2009-06-27 Thread newy

OMG, it IS the Controller! I don't know why I never thought of that. It
didn't work when I went to the Home Page on the Controller but when I
took the battery out of the Controller the computer goes into standby
and does not come out of standby unless I want it to.

Here are my Controller settings (latest firmware installed):

Enable Playback - Off
Enable SSH - On
Sleep Timeout - 30
Suspend Timeout - 2400
Suspend Enabled - Enabled
Wireless Power Save - Enabled

Could any of these settings be the source of my problems?

[slim] Computer Won't Stay In Standby Mode When SqueezeCenter Is Running

2009-06-26 Thread newy

Hello. I've been struggling w/ an issue for, oh, about a year now and
just thought I'd post to see if anyone has any ideas.

Basically, when I put my computer into standby mode it won't stay in
standby mode if SqueezeCenter is running. It wakes up after
approximately 1 minute and won't go back to Standby Mode.

I've had it working the way I want periodically since I bought my
Transporter last summer and its acting up again.

I just upgraded to 7.3.3 around the same time I upgraded my Antivirus
software that comes w/ my Togers Internet package up here in Canada.

Cana anyone thin of any settings I might check?

I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks!

I downloaded and installed 7.3.3 on Thursday(?) and I recall seeing
native support for AAC files prominently featured on the announcement
page. I was pretty excited and was expecting the same options when I
went to the file types page only to disappointed. Its not there now but
I'm pretty sure it DID say that at one point.

Oh well, maybe it'll be native in Version 8.

Re: [slim] PDA controller solution

2009-05-11 Thread newy

...the beep seems to occur when a certain function is triggered (ie
turning off program, clicking the binoculars, clicking the music notes,
etc.). I have to go into my sounds settings and disable the events
checkbox.

I really like the app but you asked for feedback so here goes:

1) When you click on an album when browsing by artist the songs should
show up by track order, not alphabetical (already mentioned earlier in
thread so I'm sure you're aware of this).

2) I don't really use playlists and like to listen to entire albums.
When I highlight a track and click the play icon the rest of the album
should play out. Is this possible?

3) Would like to see where I am in an album when I'm playing it.
Something like Track 5 of 10 below the Artist - Album display would be
great.

4) The graffiti alphabet is a bit weird.

5) When I close the app by pressing the red power icon I would like to
run it in the background and be able to re-access it quickly by clciking
on the task manager icon when on the WM Today screen. Could see how
this could create confusion and extra data charges issues though...

6) Would like the option of running the app at less than full screen
so I can still see the time, network, and windows icons on my phone.

7) Not crazy about the iPhone drag and watch it keep going style of
navigating. Much prefer a side scroll bar.

8) Support for side scroll-wheels and hard-buttons will be awesome.

That's all for now. Can't wait for the next release and thanks for the
free SD tool!

[slim] Controller and Transpoter Display - How to Sync?

2009-02-23 Thread newy

Hey there.

After selecting a song via The Controller I'd like my Transporter to

Re: [slim] Controller and Transpoter Display - How to Sync?

2009-02-23 Thread newy

I thought I was losing my mind but now I know how to reproduce it (the
problem). Sorry for the long post but here is what's happenning:

Windows XP computer is asleep. I wake it up by pressing Power on my
Transporter. Computer wakes up and I press Power again on the
Transporter to power it up. I select a song , press play and listen to
some tunes. All is good except for the fact that the Transporter's
display does not go to the Now Playing screen saver, nor does it dim
itself to Level 3 (from Level 4) like it's supposed to.

If I use the Controller to select the next track it plays fine fine but
on the Transporter it shows the new song's name for about 2 seconds and
then reverts to the last Transporter menu that was accessed. Again, it
stays on Level 4 brightness indefinitely.

The only way I have found to fix this problem and get the system
working like it should is to Power off the Transporter and then Power
it on again. Everything works fine then,

I have the computer set to go into standby mode after 30 minutes of
inactivity. If I let that happen I get the same odd behaviour from the
Transporter's display.

I recently installed the Really Prevent Standby plugin but I think it
was happening before I installed it.

Confounded. Any idea what could be going on?

Thanks.

Re: [slim] Update Duet Controller as remote for your amp, now with volume control

Just posted this on the Duet board:

Sorry for the trouble but I was just messing around with my Controller
to see if a plugin that I had recently installed works and inadvertently
hit the volume down button and, to my amazement, my Cambridge Audio 840A
responded!

I installed the ARCAMI_V2 file on Friday to see if I could do it but
never thought of actually testing it because I thought I would have to
edit it with the Cambridge Audio codes.

The volume up button raises the volume by about 6 notches. Volume down
button lowers volume by a similar amount.

Awesome. Thanks

Cheers.

[slim] Windows: Really Prevent System Standby (v2.0 - Request For Help

2009-02-19 Thread newy

Hey there. I 'm trying to get the above plugin to work but to no avail.
I think I have instaleld it correctly but I guess I'm missing
something.

When I go to SC's Setting page and click on Plugins I can see it in
th elist and it has a checkmark beside it. When I mouse over the i
icon it gives me a brief description about what it does but when I
click on Settings beside the i icon I get a navigation error page
stating:

The webpage cannot be found
HTTP 404
Most likely causes:
There might be a typing error in the address.
If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

What you can try:
Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

Go to and look for the information you want.

More information

This error (HTTP 404 Not Found) means that Internet Explorer was able
to connect to the website, but the page you wanted was not found. It's
possible that the webpage is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively,

Any ideas on what I can do to be able to configure this sorely needed
plugin? Thanks.

I'm running 7.3.2 on XP w/ a Controller and Transporter.

FYI - This is the 1st plugin I've tried to install so I might be
missing something obvious!

standy and wirelessley WOL.

That said, I now have the capapbility of displaying info on the screen
24-7. My question - how long can I expect the pretty green display to
last if info is displayed constatntly? A year? 2? 3? 10? 100?
1,000,000 years?

Thanks.

Re: [slim] Music out from Controller

Just tried 7.3 out last night w/ a pair of QC2's and I got tons of
background hiss - like 3 times more than my 80's Walkman. It's just
Beta so no worries yet.

Re: [slim] Network Card Settings - HELP!

2008-11-26 Thread newy

Yes, I think that (WOL 2 minute timeout) is definitely the cause of the
problems I am experiencing.

I have that plug-in checked on the plug-in page of SqueezeCenter. Do I
have to do something else to actually activate it?

Thanks!

[slim] Network Card Settings - HELP!

2008-11-25 Thread newy

Hello. I use a Transporter to play my music wirelessly from a dedicated
XP machine which I like to keep in standby mode when not in use. I have
all the latest updates.

Problem: I have been having BIG problems with my computer going to
sleep only 1 minute after an album is finished or pause is pressed,
even though I have my computer set to go to standby after 15 minutes.

I just stumbled upon the advanced settings for my computer's network
card. Could these settings be the problem? Below are the Property's
that display when Advanced is selected and the options for each
Property (with the current settting in CAPS). I really don't know what
these settings do so I'm wondering, should any of these be changed?
Thanks a lot!

Flow Control - Generate, GENERATE RESPOND, Off, Respond

Link Speed Duplex - 100Mbps/Full Duplex, 100Mbps/Half Duplex,
10Mbps/Full Duplex, 100Mbps/Half Duplex, AUTO DETECT, Auto-Negotiate
1000Mbps

QoS Packet Tagging - DISABLED, Enabled

Wake On Settings - Disabled, OS Controlled, WAKE ON DIRECTED PACKET,
Wake on Magic Directed, Wake On Magic Packet

Re: [slim] Network Card Settings - HELP!

2008-11-25 Thread newy

Thanks for the reply!

Hmmm, not really sure how to use bugzilla - never had to use it
before.

I made an error in my origianl post - it was already set to Wake on
Magic Directed. Sorry.

I changed the QoS setting but I have no idea if my router supports it
or not (D-Link WBR-1310). I have no idea what it means but regardless,
it made no difference.

Can you think of anything else?

I've emailed tech support - hopefully they'll come through.

Cool thanks. Looks like if you enter wol into bugzilla thing the
first response you get seems to be related to the problem I'm having.

SUPER FRUSTRATING but from what I can read at least it is being worked
on for 7.3.1. I just can't bring myself to set the computer to be on
all the time - bad for the environment, noth inside my house and

[slim] Going into standby when computer is set to Always On

2008-11-19 Thread newy

OK, weirdness happening for sure and I'm sure if I can figure this out
then the rest will fall into place.

My Transporter puts my computer into standby mode around 80 seconds
after an album is finished even though I have the power setting set at
Go into standby after 15 minutes. This has perplexed me to no end.

I performed these tests several times with the power state set at
Always On. I manually put the computer into standby mode when I had
to by pressing the front power button (Dell Tower).

1) I wake computer using a slight movement of the mouse. No matter what
I do in SC, with the Transporter or with The Controller, it has no
effect on the computer - it stays on indefinitely.

2) I wake the computer using the Transporter's remote or The Controller
and do nothing else, the computer wakes up but goes back to standby
after around 80 seconds - EVEN THOUGH IT IS SET TO ALWAYS ON!!!

I can't figure this out. My buddy at the dog park thinks its a Windows
bug/quirk. I've checked the hard-drive for errors, the network card
says it's working properly and has the latest driver, etc. Can you
think of why this is happening???

Specs:
Dell Tower dedicated to streaming music
D-Link WBR-1310 Router
XP Home SP3
Transporter (wireless), Controller and SC (all latest firmware and
software updates)
320 Gig ALAC Library

Thanks!!!

Re: [slim] Controller causes Transporter to Power-down Mid-song

2008-11-18 Thread newy

I live in a condo/loft building too but my unit is 2 floors and cabling
the unit is unfortunately just not an option (WAF). Hard-wiring would
help to isolate the problem but I really don't feel like unhooking it
all right now (lazy I guess - maybe next week). Because I can
reproduce it now at whim I really don't think it's a
signal/connectivity issue but some setting that I might be missing...

Maybe an incompatible router (D-Link WBR-1310)?

Re: [slim] Controller causes Transporter to Power-down Mid-song

2008-11-17 Thread newy

My library is 99% ALAC files. Only using the XLR outs of the
Transporter.

Streaming/File Types specs are as such:

Apple Lossless - FLAC - Disabled
Apple Lossless - MP3 - Disabled
Apple Lossless - WAV - ALAC

These settings have always confused me. Should I change the FLAC row
from Disabled to alac/flac. What format would SC stream my files to
the Transporter if both WAV and FLAC rows are enabled?

Re: [slim] Controller causes Transporter to Power-down Mid-song

2008-11-17 Thread newy

Sorry, it just goes into standby mode. A push of the Transporter's
Power button wakes it up again. I have it set to go into standby
after 30 minutes of inactivity.

This problem only appears in the first 4 minutes of an album. If it
can get by that, which it usually does, then it will continue without
incident to the end of the album.

Could be a bad computer part I guess, but I doubt it. How would I
test?

Re: [slim] Streaming to Windows Mobile 6.1 device

2008-11-16 Thread newy

This would be really cool if you can figure it out. I have an HTC P4000
(also called a Titan, 6800 and a whole bunch of other things depending
on where you live) and it would be awesome if I could stream my 1000
album ALAC collection to it. My iPod would then be relegated to flying
duties only!

Just a (probably stupid) question, are you trying to stream via wifi or
a cell provider? I have an unlimited data plan (Telus) but I doubt it
would be fast enough to stream music, but then again, I've never
tried.

Cheers.

[slim] Controller causes Transporter to Power-down Mid-song

2008-11-16 Thread newy

I have a problem that happens about every 6 or 7 albums I listen to.
When I use the Controller to choose an album it plays the first 3 or 4
minutes no problem. All of a sudden the lights on the Transporter
display go out, the music continues to play for 10 seconds or so and
then the music stops. I have to turn the power back on to The
Transporter via pushing the power button on the remote or the unit
itself. I can then use the Controller to continue playback and I'll
have no problems for the rest of the album. I can't figure it out.
Any ideas where I should look to try and correct this issue? Thanks!

Running Windows XP SP3, latest SD software and updates on all SD
products and SC.

[slim] Now Playing Display - Confused

2008-10-08 Thread newy

I'll try to keep this short. When I turn on my Transporter and select a
song using The Controller the Transporter's display stays on Albums.
I want it to display the song info. Here are my setting:

Title format: TRACKNUM, TITLE (ARTIST)
Now Playing Info: Progress Bar and Elapsed Time
Visualizer: Analog VU
Screensaver when playing: Now Playing
Screensaver when stopped: None
Screensaver when off: Date and Time
Screensaver delay time in seconds: 0

I have to hit the NOW PLAYING button on the Transporter's remote to
get the track info display that I want. What settings should I
change?

Thanks!!!

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter 7.2 start-up hiccup?

I still don't have any music from my two thousand dollar Transporter. I
can't seem to get SqueezeCenter to open. I am running it on a pretty
much music serving dedicated PC with XP SP3.

How do I check the port 9000 blockage? I'm not running anything else
so I doubt this is the problem but you never know. I turned off the
firewall and restarted the computer to no avail.

What am I looking for in the event log?

When I mouse over the blinking icon that sits in the bottom right menu
it says SqueezeCenter Starting. Uh, don't think so.

Running iTunes (7.7.043) with ALAC files.

Not a computer wizard but I can follow directions. I just want my
music back. HELP!!!

[slim] Transporter Turns Off Too Quickly After Album Completed

2008-09-06 Thread newy

Hello. My Transporter shuts itself off around 90 seconds after playing
an album to the finish. Is there a way to set this to something around

costing upwards of $1,800. Help!!!

[slim] Duet Controller, Transporter and Amplifier Volume Control

2008-08-18 Thread newy

Ah, here you all are! Forgive me if you have read this post before but
I just found this forum after posing my question on the Beginners and
DIY forums. Here is my situation.

I have a Transporter w/ the volume output fixed at 0db. I have a Duet
Controller. I have a Cambridge Audio 840v2 Receiver (with IR IN
jack).

Question: Can I control the Receiver's Volume Up and Volume Down
functions using the Duet Controller and an IR Blaster coming out of the
Transporter and/or having the Transporter's IR OUT jack connected to the
Receiver's IR IN jack via a mini-mini cable?

I have been told this is not possible but would like to see if anyone
on this board has had any success using an IR Blaster with a SB3 or
Transporter along with the Duet Controller.

Thanks!
