Question: Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox
purchases ?

- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless support for third
  party development is prioritized
- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless the third party
plugins I rely on is supported
- I use third party plugins but I would still consider buying more
  Squeezebox products without them
- I don't use third party plugins so they aren't important to my
  Squeezebox purchases

Integration with my Home automation has always been critical to me and
was the main reason for buying the SBs. I have always liked the
open-source approach and it is one of the key USPs for SB, IMHO.
Originally I did the integration using the CLI but now I use the xAP
plugin. I also value the ability to access the code for some limited
customizations, eg IR from the controller. Without these sorts of
abilities, SB will start to lose my interest. That would be very sad
after 6 years of constant use. I hope we can see some official comment
from Logitech and appropriate action.

[slim] Re: Possible Enhancement - (slight) support for multiple file format music libraries

2005-12-12 Thread rectorydp

A few people have been concerned about a related issue. Have a look at
bug 775 and see if you want to add recommendations and/or support to a
change.

[slim] Re: Whole House Audio with Squeezebox

2005-12-09 Thread rectorydp

3. I use Homeseer in my home automation setup (not for the squeezebox
yet, but I do have HomeSeer sending/receiving IR). One thought I had
was to use web tablets or PDA's in each room to browse to HomeSeer (web
server in my house) and serve up a custom page that allows me to select
a room and a music source(Squeezebox1, Squeezebox2,etc.). I could then
use the selected Squeezebox's web interface to play music. Probably not
as monkeyproof as a keypad setup.

This is exactly what I do. I have a number of web tablets and an
in-wall touchscreen pc that control my squeezeboxes and other streamers
(7 in total). Everything is interfaced with Homeseer. It is all done
through a combination of scripts/asp and I placed slimserver playlist
stuff inside a frame. It is customised to what I want but you are
welcome to have the scripts. The whole thing is built into my house
control screens based on HACT (if you have seen that on the HS
forums).

You could also do something using xAP (http://www.xapautomation.org) or
xPL. There is a xAP plugin for Homeseer.

[slim] Re: Ignoring FLAC files

2005-11-02 Thread rectorydp

Sorry to dig out an old message but I have almost exactly the same
problems as Ian. I have tracked back through the discussion that lead
to this question and looked at the comments on bug 775.

Ideally I want a single listing of each track and I want the best
quality to be used for each particular player. In fact comment #16 on
the bug summarises the situation exactly as I see it.

If flac is commented out in types.conf is it possible to play the flac
files or do they become inaccessible?

Ian have you worked out an effective way to deal with this situation in
lieu of a resolution to bug 775.

Thanks
David

[slim] Re: Ignoring FLAC files

2005-11-02 Thread rectorydp

JayNYC my problem (and I believe it is the same for Ian) is that I have
both mp3 and flac files. I want slimserver to pick the best file format
for the player,eg flac for squuezebox2 and mp3 for other mp3 players eg
slimp3. I don't really want to do transcoding as I can have up to 7
streams running at the same time.

I would like to see only one entry for each track in listings but I
want flac or mp3 to be selected depending on the player.
