Re: [slim] lost apps
And just to finish off this thread... I ended up installing LMS on an old Win 10 box I have. The Linux box was my first choice - see above - but my son may be reclaiming that machine. The Win 10 box is plenty powerful; an i7 with 16 gigs of ram - it feels a little silly to be devoting it to running LMS, so I may at some point do something that is more proportional to the task at hand, a new Pi4 as some have suggested, or a less capable, salvaged desktop/laptop. One oddity; I tried but could not get 8.1.1 to install. The installer complained about compatibility problems, so I dropped back to 7.7. Anyway, problem worked around. Re: [slim] piCorePlayer advice needed
My capacity to do the wrong thing never ceases to amaze me. I finally got the RPi back on wireless tonight. But that was only after a.) trying to solve the problem by turning off wifi completely rather than just disabling the internal hardware, b.) trying a workaround using an old gaming hotspot that basically makes the device it's hooked up to think it's plugged into ethernet, c.) again reflashing the OS. The only thing I didn't do was sacrifice chickens. And, ummm, listen to what was advised here. I finally, finally got less stupid tonight and plugged the RPi into the router directly, which produced the excellent configuration pages, and - yes - it became kinda obvious that I had not done this right. So I turned wifi back on, disabled the internal wifi and, surprise, surprise, the router sees it just fine. Finished the configuration, identified the audio device I'm using (an old DAC) and everything is back to normal. So thank you Paul for the help. I'm delighted to know I can continue to replace Squeezebox hardware as needed with RPis. best, s. satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111458 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Well, not so much. I'm not a wizard but I'm also not terrible when it comes to computers and networking. I put in some quality time last night and again tonight with the Orbi admin software and I see neither any 'smart' features - or anything that might fill the bill -nor any way to assign separate SSIDs to the 2.4 and 5 networks. I suppose the good news here is that not getting piCore running forced me to resurrect an old Duet that I always struggled with, but which now is firing on all cylinders, behaving like a chamo. [slim] piCorePlayer advice needed
All - Since my Squeezebox Classic is out of commission waiting for a new wall wart, I decided to move my piCorePlayer to the family room, where my main system lives. Unfortunately, at the same time I upgraded my wifi to cure some long-standing problems in my home. The cure worked, but my new system - a Netgear Orbi mesh network - doesn't play well with my RPi3. The pi can't see the router's 2.4g network. Here's what I've done so far: - I've logged into the RPi directly to make sure everything is running and wifi is turned on. It is and it is. Of course I've tried to connect the wireless network from within the RPi, with no luck. - On the router side, I've moved the 2.4g network off its automatic setting and have tried a variety of channels - 1,9, 8, 6, all with no luck. Every other 2.4g device I have sees the router fine. Is there anything I can do on the RPi side to improve things? A dongle? A new setting inside piCorePlayer? (I'm running 5.x, btw). Anyone know if version 4 of the Pi has the same issue? tks, s. satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111458 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

This (bad wall warts) must be a fairly common problem. My long-running SB Classic refused to come back to life this week after I made some changes to my home network. Re: [slim] A Final Goodbye and thanks to this amazing community
I still have my SB 3 - and use it some - with my main/family room stereo, an NAD receiver, a set of PSB speakers, an Oppo universal player. That said, my daughter bought me a set of Sonos Play:1 speakers for my 60th birthday and it utterly changed my listening life. I suppose if you have very, very nice stereo equipment this won't do, but as reviewers have noted, the Play:1s punch way above their weight. They're very flat out of the box and the Sonos room tuning is a subtle, but welcome addition. To the point: I have a few thousand CDs, lots of FLAC/ALAC files, as noted a decent stereo, good headphones, and a love of tinkering. But I still use the Sonos about 90 percent of the time - it sounds that good. Spotify at 320 kpbs ogg is indistinguishable from lossless to my ears. (At 60, my ears are the ultimate hard limit; I have tinnitus and hearings loss above 12-13K). My listening habits have changed as well; I listen to far fewer complete albums, and far more radio and radio-like things. Pandora, Slacker and TuneIn get at least 50 percent of my time. Again, I still like and use my Squeezebox, and have a Boom and Duet on the shelf. But I get why Sonos is so popular, even among those of us who couldn't care less about lifestyle products. s. satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106703 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Some of them sort of work as 'radio,' (everything except Phapsody, Napster) but really, none of them sound very good. Mog, which I never heard of until three days ago, streams at 320 kbps. The bump up in quality is very noticable. It isn't 'audiophile,' but it's the first time I have heard a stream that comes close. I wasn't crazy about the interface, (and really don't like the fact that I can't browse genres) but I'm warming up to it. You can stream entire albums, which is important to me since I'm a jazz fan. Other people say they're disappointed with the selection, but I have found about 90 percent of what I look for - and I look for some pretty obscure stuff. I have no connection to the company, and I'm on my 14 day trial, so these are early impressions. scott a. -- satkinsn satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82809 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Can't log on to Sirius online account
Sorted, and thank you. Your post gave me a clue. As it turns out, when I subscribed to 'premium' online service yesterday they gave me some version of standard which is 'computer only,' (don't ask me, doesn't sound right to me either) rather than what I paid for. They fixed it today and I'm fine. best, s. jgboys1;518229 Wrote: > Do you have more than 1 login account? [slim] Can't log on to Sirius online account
All - I *think* this is a different (and smaller) issue than the ongoing Sirius/Slacker thread. I was a SiriusXM customer for the last year or so, both by sat. and online. Everything worked flawlessly. I briefly cancelled at the end of January, and yesterday renewed both. I can log onto Sirius's site for online listening. I can use 'Pulsar' to access SXM online. But I can't get the Squeezebox app to verify me - it tells me I must have a premium account, which I have. Thoughts? Scott A.
