[slim] Pandora yanks my players off server and attaches them to MSB
So I was removing a bunch of plugins recently (i was getting a server crash from a media browser plugin) and I think I screwed something up with Pandora. Whenever one of my players (Radio or SB3) starts playing Pandora, it disconnects from my local library (LMS) and connects to Mysqueezebox.com to start streaming. This wouldn't be a problem except I can no longer see those players in my Squeeze Commander app. Is there a plugin or a setting that I turned off that would allow a player to stream from Pandora and still be connected to LMS? spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106936 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] WTB: Squeezebox Classic or SB3
Went downstairs to see why the old SB3 (pre-Logitech!) connected to my whole-house audio wasn't working. Looks like it's completely dead, won't power on. Does anyone have an old one laying around that they want to sell? I don't need remote - if there are flaws with the screen that's OK as well. I do need a functioning digital output and IR input (I think the only other device in the family that does that is the Touch or the Transporter, correct?). If I can't get a relatively inexpensive one I guess I can probably get the picoreplay thing going (although last time I checked that was kind of clunky with hooking up an IR receiver...) [slim] Combine a Spotify playlist with local files?
How are most of you handling this scenario? Of course my daughter wants some Taylor Swift songs on her playlist (she's not fooled by the Kidz Bop trickery anymore). Right now I have a button on her Radio that just points to a Spotify playlist. This is nice because I can add and remove songs for her using Spotify on my computer and the changes just show up next time she starts her playlist. Added bonus: I get to add some songs that she "should" be listening to as well. So assuming I have some local files that I want to intersperse with that playlist, what's my best bet? Is there a way to create a playlist of playlists? One pointing to a local playlist and one pointing to the Spotify playlist? spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105651 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Sleep or Turn Off At x:00 every night?
Since my daughter moved into her new room upstairs there's been a few times that her SB Radio has played all night. I used to turn it off manually most nights but I'm too lazy to go upstairs. I thought it would be best to just set up a schedule where it turns off or starts sleep mode at 9:00 or 10:00 every night and not have to worry about it. Is there any easy way to do this? I suppose sending a CLI command for stop is easiest - I could probably set this up with a Windows Task or something. What's the easiest way to accomplish this? Maybe an alarm where I set it to a short quiet song? Would like to see it as a native Alexa "skill" as well. Definitely could do some cool things with IFTTT, probably similar to what this guy did by hooking up Squeezebox as a "device" in his Vera: http://www.myzwave.net/index.php/adding-voice-control-to-vera-z-wave-systems-using-amazon-echo/ Very basic functionality that way... would be nice if you could pull in some information from your Squeezebox metadata into the Alexa grammar file. I.e., she would know the names of your players, maybe all of the artists and album titles (songs might be too much), favorites, playlist names, etc. Even better would be able to do some free search on Spotify or Rhapsody and have her pull in results and send them to the Squeezebox. Or maybe seed a Pandora artist station... possibilities are endless really. spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104110 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB Radio: Can IR port pass codes to Logitech Media Server?
I dunnow what forum this should go in so putting it here for now. Can the Squeezebox Radio pass IR codes back to Logitech Media Server? I'm thinking about replacing my SB3 with a Radio to power my whole-house audio. Most of the time i will be using Ipeng or the Duet Controller but I like being able to play around with custom keymap files etc. with some mini IR remotes I have laying around the house. For the SB3 I could set the logging on "(player.ir) - Infrared Activity & Map Parsing" to debug and see every IR code that the SB3 was receiving. From there I could create a custom keymap and do some custom actions. It seems that the Radio handles the IR itself and doesn't pass it along to LMS. I do know that the IR port is working because the remote that I have set to the JVC DVD codes does turn the volume up and down. Is there any hidden setting that I could turn on on the Radio to make this work? spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103411 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] "My Apps" on Controller and Ipeng not Syncing / Updating - Triode Spotify related?
OK - a little progress. I think my SB3 is the source of the problem here. I got one of the SB Radios up and running and got it to see the proper My Apps. I unplugged the SB3 from the network, selected the SB Radio as the player in Ipeng and then went into My Apps in Ipeng and the apps finally showed up. The Controller also works properly. I'm having a hard time getting the SB3 hooked back up to MSB.com - I'm sure that has something to do with the issue. The SB3 is just feeding analog audio to my whole-house audio and I have an extra Radio sitting around so I might just replace the SB3 and feed the whole-house amp with the headphone jack of the Radio. [slim] "My Apps" on Controller and Ipeng not Syncing / Updating - Triode Spotify related?
Hi - running pretty recent 7.9 server. Recently migrated everything to a new machine. On both my Controller and Ipeng I can't get "My Apps" to show anything. On Ipeng all I see is Facebook. On the Controller all I see is Spotify (Triode). I've tried adding and removing various apps (Pandora, Internet Music Archive) from both Mysqueezebox.com and from Ipeng. It adds the app because I can see it on both "My Apps" on Mysqueezebox.com and when I load the web interface to my server. Ipeng even asks me to add a shortcut and I can run the app on Ipeng no problem. But when I go to the "More" menu I don't see it under "My Apps" Any idea what I can try to force my controllers to sync the "My Apps" section? Do you think the Triode Spotify app (which kinda tricks "My Apps" into showing it, right?) is a factor here? [slim] Good Squeezebox Server box (Atom D510) - Anyone want to buy?
Hey all - I can't bear the thought of selling this up on Ebay when it would be a great little squeezebox server for someone here. Anyone interested? PM me (reasonable price). I built a new HTPC (always on) and just run Squeezebox Server on that now so i don't need this system anymore... A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85135 Question: Which of these iPeng enhancements would be most important for you? - Non-Swipe Now-Playing UI for iPhone - "SqueezePlay-like" menu operation - Main Player controls permanently available instead of shortcut bar - Smaller and lower resolution artwork - New Main Screen UI for iPad - Advanced Synchronization - Additional Functionality (please elaborate) One thing that I would like to see is a VERY simple favorites or "presets" screen that you could have shown when iPeng starts. For instance, as soon as you start iPeng, show a 4x4 grid worth of buttons that you could assign something to, kind of like a preset on the Radio. Each button could have a player and favorite assigned to it: Nursery -> Lullabies. Home -> Mom's Favorites. Could also maybe assign a little icon to it. When one of the buttons is pressed, it goes into Ipeng as normal (Now Playing screen). There could be a button to go from this Favorites window into Now Playing. Of course, this could be an option that could be disabled. This would be KILLER for my wife as far as usability goes... Re: [slim] Voice Command for Squeezebox? Still Not Much Interest?
Pippen and Snarly - both good points but not insurmountable. First of all, it would really be useful for me in the "common" situations in my household - usually simple commands. I would never use it to try and create a playlist or add tracks (which you're right, I don't always know the exact title of) but rather things like "Playlist Shane Favorites" or "Play Radio Station KEXP" or "Play Podcast Jim Rome" - sure it would need a little set up like naming your favorites correctly or naming your playlists correctly, etc. but nothing crazy. This would NEVER replace the controller or other interface for more complex things, but would be very nice for common everday things. As far as the microphone picking up unwanted things, this would be a non-issue because of isolating microphones (as Model mentioned) and having keywords or even a button press needed before speaking the command... I'll have to take a look at Homeseer and see how that would work... this hobby never ends right? -- spedinfargo spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79734 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Voice Command for Squeezebox? Still Not Much Interest?
After trying to train my primary customer (spouse) on the Squeezebox with various interfaces (Presets on Radio, SB Controller, Ipeng) I keep coming back to what I think would be a killer usability feature: Voice Command for the Squeezebox platform. I saw an old thread that someone had played around with this at one point (2008) but haven't seen much about it recently. Anyone else think that this would be a worthwhile feature? I believe the new Iphones have something similar... we've all used voice command to make phone calls on various platforms... Microsoft has the Sync software in Ford vehicles. Voice Command works without training lately, so it's something that could really be something easy for users. It doesn't even have to be too complicated - I'm looking for commands like: "Playlist Shane Favorites Random", "Skip Track", "Mute All", "Sync All Players", "Play Artist Pink Floyd", "Play Album Dark Side of the Moon", etc. For some simple and common commands, Voice Command would be much faster than navigating menus, no matter how well presented those menus are. In some threads like this, there's always someone that comes up with examples of how a certain keyword in a song would cause undesired behavior "What if they say 'stop' in the song??" but on any of these systems there is usually a button press or something similar that can easily distinguish a command from normal background noise or music. I think Voice Command continues to get better and better - someday I would love to see some way to run Squeezebox this way... Thoughts? -- spedinfargo spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79734 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Peter - thanks for playing around with this. Much appreciated. Can you check the zip file for the latest version? I think it might be missing the ProtocolHandler.pm file. [slim] Playlist "Macro" URL Commands - Maybe Kidsplay?
Hi, I'm VERY close to getting streaming radio from my Denon 3808 receiver via the WaveInput plugin to go through the Squeezeboxen in the house. I found a very simple way to control the Denon receiver via HTTP commands which I picked out of their web pages served by the internal web server. For instance, these commands start Zone 2 and change the radio station to preset A4: http://192.168.1.6/ZONE2/s_zone2.asp?radioPower2=ON http://192.168.1.6/ZONE2/TUNER/s_TunerPreset.asp?listPreset=A4 What I need is a way to send these commands to the tuner, and then fire up the WaveInput plugin. I manually created an M3U playlist with the two commands and then the wavein:0. This ALMOST works - but I need to hit "next track" on the remote to go from what the squeezebox thinks is three separate tracks. When I cycle through, it does turn on Zone two and changes the radio station and then streams it, so it works in this regard. Is there a way to do this without the "next track" button? I'm going to explore Kidsplay plugin to see if that does what I need. Maybe I should look into the M3U format a bit more (EXTINF, etc.). Thanks for the responses! I think this idea might finally be coming together... I can see how you might have the issue with the AM between a table-top radio and feeding through the Squeezebox - I would bet that's because the input from the AM radio into the Squeezebox has to go from Analog to Digital before streaming - probably not 100% real-time? -- spedinfargo spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45111 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Synchronization w/ Cat 5 Audio Distribution In The Mix?
Im in the process of planning a poor mans whole house audio with Squeezebox[es|en] as the main drivers. I also plan to split some of the audio out to a couple of my accessible rooms using Cat-5 audio distribution, likely something like On-Q/Legrand has here: http://tinyurl.com/2l4syn >From what I understand, this will essentially take my audio source, split it along multiple CAT-5 runs, each to a volume control. The volume control then outputs the sound via standard speaker wire to the speakers. My question is this: Will synchronization amongst other Squeezeboxes in the house work correctly with output from the Squeezebox Receiver feeding the zones? In other words, should I anticipate any audio delay in the path from the Squeezebox through the CAT-5 controller to the various speakers? This is pretty important, since I plan to have my dining room be fed either by a Squeezebox 3 or a Squeezebox Receiver fed into a small shelf stereo, and the surrounding rooms (kitchen and living room) will be two zones fed by the original Squeezebox Receiver. If there is much of a delay at all, I would imagine that it would create the annoying echo effect. Any thoughts on this proposed set up? Just to be clear, here is what Im planning: Squeezebox Receiver -> Denon Receiver* -> On-Q Distribution Module -> Cat 5 to Four Zones -> Volume Controls -> Speakers The zones in question are this: Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom, Outside Deck * Note that Im undecided whether or not to put my Denon in the mix here. I would like to include it so I can easily output AM and FM radio to the 4 zones, as well as possibly whats playing on the TV in the basement theater. The other two pieces would be this: Squeezebox Receiver (or SB3) wireless -> Shelf stereo -> Dining room (as mentioned, between the kitchen and living room) Squeezebox Receiver (or SB3) wireless -> Clock Radio -> Bedroom Thanks! -- spedinfargo spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45111 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Wi-Fi Internet Clock Radio?
OK, this thread intrigued me since I will probably need something similar when I jump on the Slim bandwagon. Call me crazy, but it seems like most of the ideas here are making things too complicated. There are tons of inexpensive clock radios out there that have AUX inputs thanks to our friend the Ipod. Wouldn't a good solution be to get one of the new Slim Receivers for $150 and then just hooking it up to one of those clock radios with it set to AUX input? I'm assuming that there is scheduling plugins available that would tell that particular Receiver to always "tune" to a particular playlist or internet stream, say from 5 am to 9 am, correct? As long as the Receiver is streaming during some window of time when your alarm is set for, you'd be able to hit snooze, etc. whenever. Any flaws in this logic? On a side note, one thing that bugs me with all of those overpriced Wi-Fi alarm clocks, or for any digital audio equipment for that matter, is that they always seem to sacrifice AM radio... can't live without that... -- spedinfargo spedinfargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40983 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
