FWIW I am having this problem with the qnap and sb3 combo. I think in my case I didn't leave the scan long enough. Some directorys are fine, whilst others have a couple of tracks in at best that play, despite the album being listed there. Its no biggy for me as I still have several (hah!)cds to rip and transfer across, so will do a full rescan and leave it on when I'm at work. Sorry for the frustrations! Can you please try deleting EVERYTHING in C:\program files\slim server. After ensuring that is all removed, please download the latest nightly build of slim server 6.2.2 from: http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/6.2.2/ Please make sure your music folder does NOT contain any .pls or .lnk files, I'd suggest searching with the windows search utility for *.pls, *.lnk within the directory where you are referencing slim server for your music. Now install slim server, please point it to your music library and click rescan. This next step is important, just walk away! Once you hit rescan, don't touch the computer. Clear library and rescan didn't fix it for me either. When adding new music, generally, the first two tracks on an album will play fine and all the others will report 'Can't open file for:'. Occassionally the file will fail part way through playing at a specific time, everytime. The only solution I have found is to copy the files, MP3 for me, to a new directory and rescan. I then need to delete the old directory, rescan, rename the new directory and rescan again. The music is then accessible as it should be. Without the middle delete and rescan the files remain unplayable. I was experiencing this on 6.2.1 on Linux so upgraded to the nightly on 2006_03_15 - no better. I am having this same problem. I have done rescans also. I am using flac files and have put them in a directory. I am able to play them all using J. River Media Center or other media players. Most of my flacs were ripped with either J. River or EAC. However, I get this error of can't open file and then the box plays another track in that album. For example, with Counting Crows, Films I try to play from the top but, first, it does not even see track 1, rather it sees track 17 twice. Then, it will only play track 2 or 17 and if you skip it plays those two and loops. If you try to play any other song on the album you get Can't open. Anyway, since ripping with EAC the only thing I have done to this album is I have used J. River Media Center to give the tracks an individual rating of 1-5, so I can play all songs rated 3 or better, for e.g. But that is it. -- dakotadave dakotadave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4373 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21776 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Can you, from the web interface, see the song attributes for the songs that fail? I looked through all the ways that message can be created, and they all seem fairly unlikely: Certain failures in remote streaming (but you said these files were local) Certain types of conversion errors (but you shouldn't be converting) DRM (but you said that doesn't apply) The file has zero size or zero duration (but they play with Winamp) Song is of unrecognized type ... If you can see the song attributes, see if any of these get mentioned. If not, do you know how to turn on debugging and get a log? [slim] Re: Problem, Can't open File
Scott, It's a known (and fixed) issue that might not be fixed in the version of Slimserver you are running. What happens is some tracks are not written to the DB, and thus SS ends up not being able to play them. Once a directory gets messed up like this, only a rescan will clean it up. The workaround: From now on, to make sure all the new tracks get written to the DB properly, just be sure to scroll through the entire track listing once on a newly added folder before hitting play. (i.e. hit down arrow until you come back to the first track again.) Scolling though each track writes that track's info to the db. You can confirm by searching for the new tracks or album. Once it's in the DB it will show up in a search. -Dan -- dwc dwc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1892 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18779 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

In a earlier version of SS you could schedule rescan's. Did they stop supporting this feature, or was it moved? kdf Wrote: Browse Music Folder will also pickup new files when you navigate into that folder. -kdf That's where the bug was. It would only pick up on songs that displayed on the screen, and not all the songs in the folder. You had to scan through the list of songs to make sure they all got written to the db. -Dan -- dwc dwc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1892 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18779 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
