I've still got my original SB1 remote and it's neither damaged nor worn and has seen consistent use. It has survived a move too. I too was of the impression that the remote was flimsy and looked cheap, but at the end of the day, it gets the job done just fine. I'd rather SD keep the cost of the SB low by supplying a minimal remote and focusing efforts on the SB internals. Also, the SB can be easily controlled via a Universal remote. I now have a Harmony 880 that I use to control my SB and barely touch the original remote, unless it's closer to me than the Harmony. ;) Heh heh. Some have suggested that SB offer upgraded remotes as an optional accessory. I'm all for this, if you want/need an upgraded remote, pay for it. Offer SD-customized Nokia 770s, for instance. [slim] Re: The remote is crap!
I don't understand everyone's complaints about the remote. It's not that much worse than most of the remotes I've gotten with any other $300 piece of audio equipment. It is kind of lightweight but I haven't seen many posts complaining that theirs broke in anyway. The button layout isn't half bad (I've seen a lot of remotes with just a bunch of square buttons evenly distributed across the remote where it takes forever to find the button you want.) I guess I'm just curious to know what kind of remote you think a piece of equipment at this price point should come with. Some examples would be nice. Now I would agree that the transporter remote should be nicer and apparently it is (backlit.) It's not the nicest looking remote but often it seems that the more expensive something gets in the audio world the more of a minimalist approach the design seems to take on. -- jtfields jtfields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1584 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26017 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

RE: [slim] Re: The remote is crap!
I'm a long time fan of Slim - owning SliMP3 x 3 and a couple of squeezeboxes. I stopped posting here after I got a cr**py response from a long -standing list stalwart suggesting that I shouldn't post negative posts for fear of upsetting the developers. Thanks Jack, it really helped that. Shut me up anyway. I've lurked ever since. But I can no longer keep quiet. Slim stuff is cool, Slim stuff sounds great and Slim stuff doesn't compete with Sonos. A Nokia 770 is a really nice bit of kit and it's really clever that you can control Slim with it...and I've got a 770 and I really like it. But the Sonos controller is an awesome way to control music on a Sonos system and the two things do not compare. The 770 can control your windows and your sprinklers and that's really clever. The Sonos Controller can't because all it does is do a really good job, as in a better job, of controlling music on the system that it was built for. counterpoint to the Sonos remote - in your dreams. I'll buy a couple of Transporters because I want one for our Showroom and I've got a client who is going to love it but I can't get too sentimental about this product. It's still too geeky to put into most of my customers. I sell a load of Sonos and I get NO service requests on them. Like NEVER. I've just reread this and I know it read like flamebait but it wan't meant to be. It's a great product, I really like it. Multiroom audio is both a passion for me and something that pays the mortgage. The Slim product and the SlimServer software is not ready to be included in our range of customer offerings.
