Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?
So, after getting 7.4.1 to work on my ReadyNAS, and then figuring out how to get the Facebook plugin working (had to go to mysqueezebox.com and install an app, even though there was already a facebook plugin installed--which made little sense to me), I'm now happily posting awesome artists/songs/albums to Facebook. But I have two questions: 1) Why does the icon on FB show up as an original Squeezebox, and not a Squeezebox Classic? Wouldn't it be better (for promotions) to have a more appealing looking model? Or at least the correct one that it was posted from? 2) Is there any chance I can add a touch of personality to the default message? for example, instead of I'm listening to 23 Seconds by Cobblestone Jazz. I would like to say I think 23 Seconds by Cobblestone Jazz is an awesome album. or something like that. I'd just like to be able to customise the template. And why not set up a link to Amazon or iTunes or YouTube or last.fm to have a listen to (or purchase?) the album I'm listening to? I'd like my friends to be able to hear it, too, is all: spread the love. -- JadeMonkee 2x squeezebox classics {1x via switch | 1x via wifi} + 2x squeezebox booms {via wifi} squeezecentre v7.3.3 on 'readynas duo' (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22) {raidiator 4.1.6 | 1gb hynix hymd512m646cfp8-j | 2x 1tb samsung hd103uj} d-link dir-655 + d-link dgs-1008d switch JadeMonkee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20481 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67520 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The best thing about it is that it's an amazing real-time search engine, and you pick up stuff you'd never hear about otherwise. To give an example, last weekend I found myself lying on a blanket in the middle of a hidden park in the centre of London with 2,000 other people, most of whom had dressed up to suit the theme, watching a cult film I'd never heard of (to my shame!) and really enjoyed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73Omp11JrVA Now this may not be your thing, but it is mine, and I wouldn't have found it without Twitter. Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?
I personally don't get Twitter. When I've gone there, it struck me as full of who cares kind of material. Does anyone really care what music someone is listening to, or care enough to go through a bulky list of filler to find out? I guess if I did, I would ask. But I don't care, it's about as riveting to me as what did you have for breakfast?. Thinking it was maybe an age or generational thing, I asked my kids - they don't care for it either. Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?
I used to think that of Twitter, too. I used to prefer Jaiku, too (it still has better features), however, it's not the personal tweets that make Twitter useful, it's the real-time information. Look up what it did during the Iranian election, or keep an eye on the trending topics for news that breaks faster than any media (old or new) can publish. The masturbatory personal messages are not what define it as a useful tool (even though 85% of my tweets are of that sort). Head on over to TechCrunch.com and see how many articles are written about it to get an idea of its importance on the 'net right now. -- JadeMonkee 2x squeezebox classics {1x via switch | 1x via wifi} + 2x squeezebox booms {via wifi} squeezecentre v7.3.3 on 'readynas duo' (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22) {raidiator 4.1.6 | 1gb hynix hymd512m646cfp8-j | 2x 1tb samsung hd103uj} d-link dir-655 + d-link dgs-1008d switch JadeMonkee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20481 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67520 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?
I don't think anyone gets Twitter at first. It took me a while. I primarily use Twitter to promote my site. People who follow me can get almost real time notification of anything new I post on my site and communicate with me in a different way than they can just visiting my site. I mix in a bit of personal stuff and other things I find interesting or funny because it lets people get to know me better as a multi-dimensional person. Since I started doing the 12 hour LastFM tweets, I haven't lost any followers, and according to twitterfeed people are even clicking on the links. So they must not mind it. Thanks for the URL of the loved tracks RSS. Love this track is in the track info menu (press right from now playing on the current track) in 7.3 or the context menu (+ button) in 7.4. In the WebUI, I think it's in the track info menu that you get when you click a song title. One nice side effect of the new context menu is that it seems to make it a little harder to do accidental loves. Before, if you just hit right arrow twice it would love the track. Now you'd have to hit + and then right arrow. [slim] Tweet this album/song option?
I read an 'article' (http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/sonos-cr200-controller-turns-sentient-tweets/) today talking about the Sonos controllers recent feature that allows you to tweet out what song you are listening to. I, quite often, get excited by a song/album that I'm listening to, and end up heading over to Facebook to tell my friends just how awesome it is (I have more friends on FB than Twitter). So, I think it's an awesome feature. Is there any chance of a plugin coming out that allows you to post the current album or song (I'd prefer album, but I imagine some people/situations would prefer song) you are listening to Twitter and/or Facebook? I was thinking there could just be a Share this option in the Extras menu that allows you to select song/album/artist and service to share it on. Maybe even personalise the message, but that would start getting complicated. Maybe there could be a web interface where you could customise the different templates for Twitter/Facebook and song/album/artist? I know I can share all my listening habits over last.fm, but I don't use their service/have many friends that do, and I'd only want to share the -creme de la creme-, so to speak. I think it would also be a cool way for Logitech to promote brand awareness (and maybe even get into trending topics...?) with all these squeezebox themed tweets appearing.
