Re: [slim] 6.5.2 with old slimdevices logo

2007-05-31 Thread Keith

I've been considering purchasing a Transporter but contrary to some
points of view brand is very imporant but why pay for a brand or more
accurately why pay a premium price for a brand? There must be something
that provides the purchaser with something more than just the product?

Although I want what I believe is the best it has to have to be at the
right price. $2000 for a Slim Device Transporter is a lot of money but
$2000 for a Logitech Transporter is excessive.

This has nothing to do with Logitech as a company it's consumer
preference.

That's my view and like all consumers I can always vote with my
wallet.

I can see the rational for the standard SB but the Transporter is
something else, it's a niche market product so why not exploit this.

Re: [slim] 6.5.2 with old slimdevices logo

2007-05-31 Thread slutz

It's all a matter of perception (mktg says of positioning). Yes,
individual perception but you have some rules.
First, what do you want to sell? Do you want to sell some sort of
feelings/imaginations/vibrations? Do you want to sell a product? Do
you want to sell both? (Yes, there are more.) Have a look at some oil
companies. They try to connect both of them. At first glance absurd.
But they do this to avoid bad reputation. And in that they succeed.
Have a look at the structure of Logitech. They sell cheap and good
stuff. They are known for being reliable at an affordable price. The
Transporter will be their premium product. And to sell that product
they have to change the customer's perception regarding Logitech.
There are few people that will buy that product because it's
manufactured by Logitech. They will think what's that?. If they can
get something similar they may buy it from a company with more
reputation in manufacturing expensive stuff. If they can sell more
Transporters ... we will see. But it is good for the Squeezebox. This
is a segment where they are nearly in. But that will be hard because of
the Squeezebox' price. Have a look at the price of the Pinnacle box.
And Pinnacle has a pretty good reputation in that segment. I think it
was no good idea to remove the SlimDevices references. They should
have been using that up to the point where they can savely transition
from SlimDevices to Logitech. Because they now have the power to push
the SlimDevices products to new hights (but that needs invests). I see
that -here in Germany- nobody knows about SlimDevices. If you pushed
SlimDevices they appear new to the market and people get curious and
are willing to try the new star (powered by Logitech's marketing/money
in the background). But if they see Logitech they will think puhh,
what a price from such a company. Logitech must tell them that they
have bought a great company with lots of know-how and that they can do
these things now. But if they tell them (in Germany) that the name of
that company was SlimDevices ...
We will see. I won't say that the decision to be part of Logitech was
a bad decision. Maybe they have more money and power to do even better
development now. But if it's true that the lead developer has left the
company... We had similar occurrences. When we grew larger some
people have left the company because it was not the same as before.
Those guys are simply not willing to do the change and see the change
as a chance for the company and themselves. But there are others that
see the chances. Yes, some sort of spirit may get lost and we may
notice that (even if we should not).
There is one thing I'm afraid of. Logitech might push SlimDevice's
products into the mass market (like Media Markt / Saturn here in
Germany). If they do not get the fast ROI they may get disappointed
and can react like other large companies do: they push away SlimDevices
or finish selling their products. Something we all have seen several
times. And if you have the shareholders breathing down your neck...

that -here in Germany- nobody knows about SlimDevices. If you pushed

German's leading computer magazine c't has been writing about SliMP3 four
years ago (and ever since when there was a new product): SlimDevices hat
seinen SliMP3 konsequent auf das Display reduziert. Seine Stärke ist das
durchdachte Zusammenspiel von Fernbedienung, flexiblem Webinterface und

Yes, four years ago. And try to get one here. Some say on stock but
they aren't. And even worse, they tell you to try Noxon et al. And if
you ask other renowned dealers they don't even know SlimDevices. They
only know Noxon and Soundbridge. You have to know about the existance
of the Squeezebox. Otherwise you will be stuck with the other stuff.
Have you seen a review in German magazines as a follow-up to the
merger? I did not but in the past I have focussed on Spiegel ;-)

LOL, nice sarcasm. But i'm not saying you are evil, or good, just that
you have a very different ethos. Just like Apple and Microsoft. You
can't act surprised if people who have spent a lot of their hard earned

work and think in a different way have some worries. But i personally
remain optimistic as it goes. There are different ways to make money,
you have always aimed at a different market. I just hope you realise

Wow. When I saw this thread I assumed it would be the Slim Devices |
A Logitech Company logo as on http://www.slimdevices.com/, in which
case I'd probably not have bothered to switch. But the full-on
Logitech is too much change for me, so I'll probably be among those
to switch the logo back when I upgrade.

I seem to remember Slim Devices being labeled a wholly owned subsidiary
back when this was announced, which one would think would include
retaining some measure of branding. But maybe I'm just mixing that up
with the recent Microsoft acquisition of TellMe (which is definitely a
subsidiary).

He is no doubt merciless in business and I am sure has ruined his share of
lives in doing so, but he has done a hell of allot of good with their
foundation. I believe it is one of the largest foundations out there when
combined with Warren Buffet. What evil thing's are they doing with that
foundation?

Big hi-tec companies do bad things with their profits. Just look at

2007-05-25 Thread tyler_durden

Don't kid yourself. All big companies are evil. That's how they get
big. Small ones are evil, too.

No matter how they present themselves in their carefully crafted
marketing materials, their relationship with their customers is about
one thing only- money.

Companies are not your friends. They don't care about you. They
aren't capable of caring about you. This applies whether you are a
customer or an employee. Decisions at companies are made based on
money and only money.

As a customer you have to decide if the evil company's product is worth
the sacrifice of your hard-inherited cash. If the product does what you
want at a price you are willing to pay, buy it. If it doesn't, don't.
Nevermind that the company that makes it is evil.
