I hadn't heard that, but I'd be very surprised it that's true - I think a couple years back, they would put on-air mentions in their newsletters, so that would be quite a change of pace for them. The Series 2.5 boxes are more locked down than the Series 1, but that doesn't stop some people. I got the new box for $200 - $200, and honestly expected I might Ebay it because of unhackability without a PROM mod - but the fact is, all the stuff I hacked my Series 1 to get is available without hacking on the Series 2.5, and then some. And they've always winked at capacity upgrades, and still do - I'm sure they planned on it from the beginning, they just don't want to provide warranty support to people who mess things up doing them. Then there was the backdoors, 30-second skip, etc. I'd say they've been pretty good to their customers with regards to "unofficial enhancements". Beyond that, with them adding extraction as a built-in capability, they're walking a fine line between customers and networks (advertisers) and had to grovel to the FCC for approval as it was, so the kernel mods "lockdown" is at least understandable. Cover art is one aspect that I would very much like to have, I also think it would be very useful (at least for me) to be able to see a whole list of folders at once, and to have one button scroll down a whole page, rather than just one entry. Probably faster than entering search text in some instances, and even more handy when you want to browse your collection. You could see all albums by one artist on a screen, or all songs in an album, etc. Similarly, it would also make things like the lyrics plugin, RSS feeds, Internet radio, Live Music Archive, etc. more useful and user-friendly, IMO (there are already Tivo/HME apps that have this functionality, and it's pretty slick on the TV screen). There's probably a host of other things that people could do with a TV screen for an interface, as well. Heck, pull up the allmusic.com page on an artist or album, have visualizations, slide shows, browse the artist's catalog, etc. So cover art is one aspect for me, but it's more about a truly graphical, _paged_ display, as opposed to a 1-3 line display (1 line from the other side of my living room). The MYthMusic module is ok, but if there were a native slimserver module for music, that would be killer. As it is, I have a web browser shortcut in Myth that automatically points to the squeezebox in the room in question. I have a matched pair of myth boxes and squeezeboxes in two rooms, so it's not too hard to maintain.
