Re: [slim] Problems with BBC London live stream
I agree, I made debugging more complicated by trying numerous things to get it working again, however, something created the initial problem, which I guess was a problem with the AAC feed for that particular BBC station. I then started changing and just confused things. Either that, or one time when I selected the favorite I had stored on the radio button wasn't for the iPlayer, the Squeezeplay wasn't started, and not synced and the WMA feed was started and then when I started the squeezeplay and it tried to sync. Whatever, my apologies. I appreciate the clarifications and help I got here on the use of the SqueezePlay software with the readyNAS. That helps my understanding. So here is what I've done. Cleared the favorite for the BBC from the server; cleared the favorite from the SB Radio. Got the BBC London channel playing on the Squeezeplay, via the iPlayer app running on the ReadyNas. Created a favorite on for it on the Server. Synced the touch, radio, boombox to the Squeezeplay and now everything has been working for 36-hours or so. One final question. The iPlayer app has an option for AAC FlashAAC FlashMP3 WMA - as a non-UK user, should I change this to AAC FlashAAC thus ensuring a WMA stream is never started and so I'll always be able to sync, or will get nothing? cathcam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43414 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

mikael_b wrote: But if every individual player can play the stream, as cathcam stated, the least capable of the players can play the stream and therefore syncing them should not be a problem? Just trying to understand. You're not the only one trying to reconcile what is happening. In the first post cathcam said I get one of a couple of errors depending on how I try to stream the BBC London station. using my Squeezebox radio, I select Internet Radio; then world; find a city; then europe; then United Kingdom; then London; All stations; finally BBC Radio London, which resolves to this link http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s24849 which returns an m3u file containing this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/bbclondon.asx This implies cathcam was just using Radiotime/Tunein to play BBC stations - no plugins or applets. With this radiotime URL - only WMA stream can be returned for local radio. If you are using a Tunein URL for National station (e.g. Radio 1) then you will get an AAC and a WMA stream. WMA cannot be played on a software Squeezeplay and there is no WMA transcoding on ReadyNAS . So either cathcam missed out testing on the software Squeezeplay, or used a Windows based LMS, or used a different URL for a local station, or tested using a national station or got WMA transcoding working on her ReadyNAS. with cathcam's recent post - things become a bit clearer Maybe I was using the iPlayer app and somehow managed to change the favorite, or possibly BBC London stopped for a brief time transmitting AAC, looking at the options for the iPlayer app it has a selection of formats shown as AAC FlashAAC FlashMP3 WMA and does selection using preferred from left to right. . . I've got the iPlayer app installed on the ReadyNas. Using that I can navigate Internet Radio; iPlayer; Listen Live; BBC Local Radio; BBC London and it plays on the Radio, checking it reports: File Format: AAC Bitrate: 32kbps CBR URL: rtmp://cp80234.live.edgefcs.net:1935?app=bGl2ZT9fZmNzX3Zo b3N0PWNwODAyMz(etc.. When using the BBC iplayer plugin - more formats choice become available for local radio. Local radio is also sent using Flash/AAC (not standard http/AAC) and this requires the BBC iPlayer plugin to extract the aac audio from the flash stream. Software Squeezeplay can play AAC when played through the iPlayer plugin and also the stream can be synced. To compare the different in what is offered to a player - you can download the Tunein URL for BBC Radio London http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s24849 and compare agains the media selectort used by the iPlayer plugin http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/bbc_london The iPlayer plugin URL returns a XML which shows two stream an Flash/AAC with rtmp:// URL and a http: WMA URL (but with incorrect speed for non UK users actrual is 48 not 128). So cathcam can play BBC Radio London on all her players (incl softsware Squeezeplay) synced if BBC Player plugin is used to select the station and the iPlayer plugin setting have AAC Flash/AAC selected and transcoding is enabled. If WMA is part of the Settings then it is possible that plugin will try a WMA stream if an AAC stream fails to play and then the message unable to play filetype will appear. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Problems with BBC London live stream
The BBC often changes services and what formats are available. For non UK users - the national stations used to be only available in WMA and AAC. So out of curiousity I looked at the media selector for Radio 2 http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/bbc_radio_two It shows for a non UK user. 1. 32kb Flash/AAC 2. 48kb WMA (athough XML says 128kb) 3. 48kbs/sec AAC LC stream - sample rate 44.1kHz 4. 56kbps/sec AAC HE stream - sample rate 32kHz For a UK user - there will be high rates and possibly other formats. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Are the player synced ? Re: [slim] Problems with BBC London live stream
If you sync with a software player such as Squeezeplay - then the stream has to be converted to a format which the least capable player can play. WMA is not a native format for Squeezeplay. If the BBC stream was WMA and you tried playing on a Squeezeplay software player - then it will not play unless you have some sort WMA transcoding support on the ReadyNAS and IIRC there is no transcoding support on ReadyNAS. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks. Hmm, I guess from that we can deduce that for what ever reason, the BBC Radio London has stopped or converted from what ever stream it had to WMA only now. Which would explain why all the other BBC Radio streams worked and this one didn't. It's interesting that the Squeezeplay can't handle WMA, since its the only player running on a native Windows platform. I assume by extrapolation that if I can find a stream that will work on the Squeezeplay that I can then resync them all and it will work. Hopefully BBC London is in some error kinda of situation and will eventually restart. Finally, is there a way I can test or establish what streams are available for any given site/station? Are they listed anywhere? IS there a discovery tool? cathcam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43414 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

cathcam wrote: Thanks. Hmm, I guess from that we can deduce that for what ever reason, the BBC Radio London has stopped or converted from what ever stream it had to WMA only now Don't think there has been any change. I'm outside the UK so cannot confirm anything but AFAIK BBC local radio isonly available in WMA whereas national (and possibly regional) are available in other formats such as AAC. It's interesting that the Squeezeplay can't handle WMA, since its the only player running on a native Windows platform. Software Squeezeplay has no WMA codec - Squeezeplay in Radio and Touch have a licensed WMA codec for embedded hardware. What Squeezeplay plays natively is independent of the OS which it is running. As delivered by Logitech, WMA stream can be transcoded by LMS if LMS is running on Windows as MS provided libraries are available. For other platforms a 3rd party method to provide transcoding WMA can be installed by using mplayer - but this is typically on Linux and OSX platfroms. I assume by extrapolation that if I can find a stream that will work on the Squeezeplay that I can then resync them all and it will work. No. Squeezeplay can play MP3 and Flac ( and possibly ogg/vorbis) natively. LMS on ReadyNAS can transcode AAC streams and I think Triodes plugin can also hanlde Flash/AAC. If you sync all players then you must choose a stream that can be played (either natively or transcoded by LMS) on Squeezplay as it is the least capable. If you want to play WMA streams - don't sync with Squeezeplay or move LMS to a Windows platform. Finally, is there a way I can test or establish what streams are available for any given site/station? Are they listed anywhere? IS there a discovery tool? No but there is no need. BBC Local Radio is WMA only, BBC National has all formats. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Problems with BBC London live stream
I'm outside the UK too, Austin TX. I assumed there must have been a change somewhere since I've had this setup working, since 12/2010. I first bought the ReadyNas and a Boom, then added the Touch, then the SqueezePlay and finally a radio. They've all worked, all synced for at least 18-months. The Squeezeplay has always run on WIN7. It's baffling, although see below. Maybe I was using the iPlayer app and somehow managed to change the favorite, or possibly BBC London stopped for a brief time transmitting AAC, looking at the options for the iPlayer app it has a selection of formats shown as AAC FlashAAC FlashMP3 WMA and does selection using preferred from left to right. Certainly using the mms uri posted in the above, it returns a stream based on Windows Media Audio 9.1 48 kbps, 44 kHz, mono 1-pass CBR when run from a Windows based browser. I assume the Error: Couldn't create command line for wma playback for [mms: is the ReadyNas server saying what you said, it can't convert to WMA? I've got the iPlayer app installed on the ReadyNas. Using that I can navigate Internet Radio; iPlayer; Listen Live; BBC Local Radio; BBC London and it plays on the Radio, checking it reports: File Format: AAC Bitrate: 32kbps CBR URL: rtmp://cp80234.live.edgefcs.net:1935?app=bGl2ZT9fZmNzX3Zob3N0PWNwODAyMz(etc... and I've been able to sync up great, except the boom which is out in the garage, and I'll try and connect that later. So I guess I'll be ok so long as I start the stream via iPlayer. Thanks again for your feedback, that helped me it at least get it going again by forcing me to look at the stream formats... cathcam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43414 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95210 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
