Re: [slim] Recent frustrating developments with squeezebox ecosystem...

2015-01-14 Thread Benefactor

FWIW, I think I might have solved the problem.

I had downloaded Squeeze Control, Squeeze Commander, and Orange Squeeze
to my Samsung phone in order to compare them.

I didn't consider that having three squeezebox controller apps running
simultaneously might "confuse" things...now that I've uninstalled all
but Orange Squeeze playback has been smooth for the last few days.

Haven't messed with the AV suite since I set it up originally.

The music drive is on the exclusion list as far as AV activity goes.

Have you perhaps "upgraded" your Anti Virus software recently ?

Try the suggestions above but also check to see whether your USB drive
is excluded from Anti-Virus on-demand scanning. Try switching off AV
altogether (temporarily) for testing.

Yes on administrator.

I guess I could try and run some music from the internal drive.

Just very perplexing, since I've had the system configured this way for
many years, have played countless hours of music without a hiccup, and
then within the last few weeks I run into this issue every couple of
days where I press "play" and nothing happens.

Again, the album tracks appear on the web interface, the track times
move on the web interface, but the first track freezes on the players at
00:00.

This happens seemingly at random, and on some albums I've played dozens
of times through since I set the system up.

Not doing anything with the server aside from pressing -> key to play
another album...After the previous album ended as far as I remember.

Took a look at the music drive with a few utilities that report the
drive as "green", and "healthy"...but I'm running out of ideas as to
what might be going wrong after a long time of flawless listening.

Rebooted router, and modem tonight...after not having done that in a
long while...like I said, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

This is happening during music playback? Are you doing anything on the
server when this happens? Browsing music, for instance.

I don't see anything unusual in the log. That warning message has been
there for years.

Is the drive actually having problems? Try a SMART reporting tool to see
whether or not it is. One free tool you can use is 'CrystalDiskInfo'
(http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html). If it
says the drive is good, then I wouldn't worry about the drive.

So the system still hangs up.

Don't really know much about interpreting server logs, but the system
got hung up again tonight while accessing Wes - Complete Live in Paris
1965. Then I restarted LMS, and was then able to play the album without
a hangup.

Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never experienced this particular issue in
my squeezebox world.

Now thinking that I might need to image and replace my music drive.

Here are the last couple of lines of the server log including the album
that stalled on play, and then the server restart.

Re: [slim] Recent frustrating developments with squeezebox ecosystem...

2015-01-10 Thread Benefactor

I got frustrated last night, and uninstalled LMS...and then reinstalled
it, and configured the three players again from start.

One thing I notice is that LMS now starts up a whole lot faster than it
did before - used to take a few minutes to start up on a reboot, and now
takes just a couple of moments.

Hadn't done a fresh install of LMS since I got this current computer
around three years ago.

So far I've played a couple of selections this AM without any problems -
we'll see how things develop over the next few days before I start
posting server.logs.

Thanks for the responses.

Have you tried restarting LMS itself when the problems begin? That would
tell you whether its LMS rather than something happening elsewhere
within the computer that is the source of the problem.
