Finally got this sorted out :D Searching for the main router by model number led me to a discussion on the Sky help forum started by someone whose wireless devices couldn't see other connected devices. Disabling "Enable IPv6 on Lan side" within the router worked for him and seems to have done the same for me. I think I've probably reached the limits of my understanding over the last six months of battling with this... The second router is definitely not connected via its WAN port and the DHCP has always been disabled on it. But if the problem was with how the second router was set up, wouldn't the connection problems arise when devices tried to connect via it - rather than through the main router? Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS
Take some time to understand your network ? And it's settings . Not just following some guide try to grasp what you done . A common mistake is to actually have two networks in series not one , for example some extra router conected via it's WAN input creatings it's own network and DHCP . If it's solved by portwording between routers you know you have this issue . Also don't use a guest network , can make the same mess as client isolation Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Look at the wireless settings on the main router. Do they include a "client isolation" option? Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS
Restarting the PC righted things at that end - to be fair this is something that seems to happen every once in a while regardless of what else has been happening. The SB2 seems to be behaving itself connected to the main router but the phone still seems to only allow Orange Squeeze and Squeezeplayer to see LMS when it is connected through the repeater. I suspect that the brief period of it appearing to work last night was caused by the phone connecting to the repeater despite being closer to the main router while the latter was rebooting. As of this morning, if I'm closer to the main router Orange Squeeze tells me that there is "no route to host". I'm starting to revert to my original hunch that this is some strange incompatibility between my Samsung phone and the router... Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS
Many thanks for the further reply - and for your time in wading through that horribly formatted PC Advisor website. I've been checking the set up again and I think I've cracked it: I think the problem was that I'd set the IP address of the repeater *within* the range that the main router was allocating. I won't pretend to know why this would have caused the problems it did but in correcting it, both my phone and Squeezebox 2 seem to be happily connecting to LMS. This has been tormenting me since moving into this house almost 6 months ago so I'm thrilled to finally have a solution :D Many thanks, once again, for your time and advice. Also see http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison for details on the differences, which are significant from a performance point of view. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98682 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Well, my father lives in Toronto, if that can help :) In anycase, I was in the opposite situation: I have a wired SB2 in my living room setup and it's the only model that I can easily fit in my cabinet. Considering Logitech quitting on us, I was afraid that once mine broke... I wouldn't have a replacement. Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2
Ya know the funny thing (at least from my perspective)? Around 6 years or so ago I bought a 2nd SB2 right after Logitech acquired Slim Devices. My thinking was that I couldn't be sure that they would keep the line alive, or wouldn't dumb it down to some lowest common denominator. It took longer for that to happen than I expected, and in the meantime Logitech's hardware beta program greatly expanded the number of SBs in my house. So I probably shouldn't complain about the latest developments. But I do. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96399 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2
On the inside it's the same as an SB3, so if you're okay with the form factor (sometimes compared to a 1970s era clock radio), it's as good as an SB3/Classic. And it fits in a wider variety of spaces. I have two SB2s in my collection and think they're great. Be sure to confirm it's really an SB2. There have been several cases of eBay sellers and others selling SBs (aka SB1s) as SB2s. The best way to be sure is to look at the sticker on the bottom, or have the seller send a photo. If it says Squeezebox2 then you're good. If it just says Squeezebox, then it's an SB1, which is inferior in some ways. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96399 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I always preferred the form factor of the SB2 to that of the SB3/Classic. Just maybe not as polished looking. Also, I have mine on top of a tall kitchen cabinet, lifted in the back, with the screen angled downward - something not quite as easily done with the SB3. I -think- they produced the SB2 in both wifi and non-wifi models. As someone else said, have the seller confirm that the device is a Squeezebox2, which should be clearly shown on both the box and the label on the bottom. Sometimes the Players name can be coinfused with the model type. IIRC LMS does (or used to) some auto naming of devices and so you can get Squeezbox 4 if you had 4 players. To be sure on the device itself - go into the Settings/Information/ playername Information and then scroll down to Model edit: If you are playing WMA, SB1 has no WMA support and there is no LMS provided support for Linux - you could install playWMA plugin and mplayer to provide WMA support. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94000 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes but the unable to open file message is from LMS indicating it has not got the correct support application to play an audio format. The player firmware is irrelevant at this stage. Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working
Weird. In general the fact that the DHCP is working so it gets an IP shows two things, that the physical wireless link is working and that it's connected to the network OK (i.e. the passkey etc is correct). I'd try a few things if you haven't already: 1) Factory reset (see the wiki http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands) 2) Verify that the IP it gets is genuine (i.e. that it is within the correct range for your network). Also verify that the router lists the lease in it's web interface. It's possible that the SB isn't really associating and is using a failback address whilst looking as if DHCP is working. 3) Call support :) -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working
I had a similar issue with my wireless print-server. Turned out it was configured with the wrong wireless encryption (WAP I instead of II), once that was fixed, all was well. Similar in that the printer would react, then just stop after going through the motions that it was connected. So check the encryption as well! ~a -- alZmtbr alZmtbr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8773 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
