Well thanks very much I have ordered the 25 capacitors from Digi-Key in

stock so it may be a while before I get them, I noticed that the ones
listed did not include the much larger capacitors I can see on the

After Xilinx, WLAN card, PSU - the capacitors are the next miost likely
poitn of failure. I beleive replacing them is that that hard - IIRC Joe

Reading through the checks I can see that the led for the toslink is

Could be a dying power supply. When the voltage starts dropping,
squeezeboxes can behave in all sorts of weird ways. Dead PSUs are one of
the commonest failures.
(Note that measuring the PSU voltage without any load won't tell you
anything - the voltage only drops when the device is pulling current).

Finally got this sorted out :D

Searching for the main router by model number led me to a discussion on
the Sky help forum started by someone whose wireless devices couldn't
see other connected devices.

Disabling "Enable IPv6 on Lan side" within the router worked for him and
seems to have done the same for me.

I'm going to see what the next couple of days bring but it seems to have
solved the problem without causing any new ones as of this evening...

I think I've probably reached the limits of my understanding over the
last six months of battling with this...

The second router is definitely not connected via its WAN port and the
DHCP has always been disabled on it.

But if the problem was with how the second router was set up, wouldn't
the connection problems arise when devices tried to connect via it -
rather than through the main router?

Take some time to understand your network ? And it's settings . Not just
following some guide try to grasp what you done .

A common mistake is to actually have two networks in series not one ,
for example some extra router conected via it's WAN input creatings it's
own network and DHCP . If it's solved by portwording between routers you
know you have this issue .

Also don't use a guest network , can make the same mess as client
isolation

Look at the wireless settings on the main router. Do they include a
"client isolation" option? This is where the wireless client can see the
internet but nothing else on the network.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-05 Thread YHS1979

Restarting the PC righted things at that end - to be fair this is
something that seems to happen every once in a while regardless of what
else has been happening.

The SB2 seems to be behaving itself connected to the main router but the
phone still seems to only allow Orange Squeeze and Squeezeplayer to see
LMS when it is connected through the repeater. I suspect that the brief
period of it appearing to work last night was caused by the phone
connecting to the repeater despite being closer to the main router while
the latter was rebooting. As of this morning, if I'm closer to the main
router Orange Squeeze tells me that there is "no route to host".

I'm starting to revert to my original hunch that this is some strange
incompatibility between my Samsung phone and the router...

Many thanks for the further reply - and for your time in wading through
that horribly formatted PC Advisor website.

I've been checking the set up again and I think I've cracked it: I think
the problem was that I'd set the IP address of the repeater *within* the
range that the main router was allocating. I won't pretend to know why
this would have caused the problems it did but in correcting it, both my
phone and Squeezebox 2 seem to be happily connecting to LMS.

This has been tormenting me since moving into this house almost 6 months
ago so I'm thrilled to finally have a solution :D

Many thanks, once again, for your time and advice.

I'm using a second router, set up as per the guide here:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/network-wifi/how-set-up-router-as-repeater-summary-3633135/

The second router seems to work completely perfectly and the "main" one
seems to work perfectly for everything apart from certain (but not all)
devices' ability to see the LMS.

I'd like to think that there is something simple in terms of the

What do you mean by repeater/extender router? Do you really mean a

but only if you set it up properly?

Potential buyers should note that the SB shown in the photo is a
Squeezebox (aka Squeezebox 1), and definitely not a Squeezebox 2. If it
were a SB2 it would say *Model: Squeezebox2*.

Also see http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison for
details on the differences, which are significant from a performance
point of view.

Ya know the funny thing (at least from my perspective)? Around 6 years
or so ago I bought a 2nd SB2 right after Logitech acquired Slim Devices.
My thinking was that I couldn't be sure that they would keep the line
alive, or wouldn't dumb it down to some lowest common denominator.

It took longer for that to happen than I expected, and in the meantime
Logitech's hardware beta program greatly expanded the number of SBs in
my house. So I probably shouldn't complain about the latest
developments. But I do.

I did correspond with the vendor, and it was indeed a case of the shop

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2

2012-09-10 Thread aubuti

On the inside it's the same as an SB3, so if you're okay with the form
factor (sometimes compared to a 1970s era clock radio), it's as good as
an SB3/Classic. And it fits in a wider variety of spaces. I have two
SB2s in my collection and think they're great.

Be sure to confirm it's really an SB2. There have been several cases of
eBay sellers and others selling SBs (aka SB1s) as SB2s. The best way to
be sure is to look at the sticker on the bottom, or have the seller send
a photo. If it says Squeezebox2 then you're good. If it just says
Squeezebox, then it's an SB1, which is inferior in some ways.

Yeah, the promo picture is clearly an SB2, but that's no guarantee of
what's in the box. I hope the seller responds with some clear proof for
you. Failing that, it's up to your own eBay antennae to decide how
much you should count on the seller's 100% feedback (on only 13
transactions) and eBay's buyer protection policy. Personally, I would
probably take the chance.

It appears to be an electronics store in a small city not far from where
I live. My assumption is it's old stock they've had in a cupboard and
decided to off-load for what they can get. I'd be surprised if it was a
rip-off.

It's purely hypothetical. With two in-box new Touches and a stored Duet
Receiver and a spare Boom, I'm not likely to need this thing. Just
intriguing, and a good price.

What I would like, though, is a standby Controller, and I see one
(refurbished) Duet on ebay for essentially the same price as the
Controllers being sold by themselves.

I always preferred the form factor of the SB2 to that of the
SB3/Classic. Just maybe not as polished looking. Also, I have mine on
top of a tall kitchen cabinet, lifted in the back, with the screen
angled downward - something not quite as easily done with the SB3.

I -think- they produced the SB2 in both wifi and non-wifi models. As
someone else said, have the seller confirm that the device is a
Squeezebox2, which should be clearly shown on both the box and the label
on the bottom.

That makes sense if it's a SB 1. For some reason, server is showing as

Sometimes the Players name can be coinfused with the model type. IIRC
LMS does (or used to) some auto naming of devices and so you can get
Squeezbox 4 if you had 4 players.

To be sure on the device itself - go into the Settings/Information/
playername Information and then scroll down to Model

edit:
If you are playing WMA, SB1 has no WMA support and there is no LMS
provided support for Linux - you could install playWMA plugin and
mplayer to provide WMA support.

If that is the case, and one works but the other doesn't, that sounds

Yes but the unable to open file message is from LMS indicating it has
not got the correct support application to play an audio format. The
player firmware is irrelevant at this stage.

To Brian250:

Have you installed ia32-libs packages ? If not then the LMS supplied
Flac, sox, faad etc. (some of which have LMS reequired patches) will
not run and you will get the unable to open file message.

Also have you changed any of the Setting/Advanced/Filetypoes from
default ?
have you added your own custom-convert.conf file ?
Have you enabled bit rate limiting for a player but didn't install lame
?

One more related symptom: when configuring the networking in my SB2, it
detects a server on my network, but this too has the wrong IP address

Just make sure it's really an SB2. There are some sellers out there who
either intentionally or accidentally try to sell SB1s as SB2s.
Internally they are very different, but externally they look a lot
alike, especially the SB1G with the enhanced screen. Check the label on
the bottom of the player. If it says Squeezebox2, then it's an SB2. If
it says Squeezebox, then it's an SB1.

Good luck. Even SB3/Classic are harder to find nowadays, though it
looks like SB Touch should be released very soon, so maybe there will
be a new wave of SB2/SB3/Classic on eBay any day now.

have a better place for it that would benefit from a display.

Then I realized that I don't know the answer to two things (and it's so
hard to search for Squeezebox 2 on the forums).

 1) Does Squeezebox 2 fully support Mysqueezebox.com - i.e., can it run
just like my Duet without even having a Squeezebox Server up and
 running?

Yes.

 2) What is the most current firmware for this thing? Can it run
Squeezebox Classic firmware? From wikipedia it seems like the SB2 and
SB3 were almost identical in hardware in most respects...

Yes, the main difference between the SB2 and SB3 physical, which ended
up changing antenna placement. They both run the same firmware, and,
in fact the only way SBS can tell the difference is by comparing MAC
id's.

The SB2 looks like a $10 alarm clock, while the SB3 is much more classy
looking.

I guess it would be possible to paint it without removing the rest of
the rubber, but as some has come away anyway, you are going to be left
with an uneven surface. I'm not sure how well you could remove
everything to get it nice and smooth. But then, if you are replacig it
anyway, as you say, it could be a fun project :)

SB does G + B. The Apple Airport Extreme does simultaneous N + G...so,
the SB should connect fine via G.

You probably need to fiddle with the Airport utility and the SB to get

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working

2008-11-28 Thread radish

Weird. In general the fact that the DHCP is working so it gets an IP
shows two things, that the physical wireless link is working and that
it's connected to the network OK (i.e. the passkey etc is correct). I'd
try a few things if you haven't already:

1) Factory reset (see the wiki
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands)
2) Verify that the IP it gets is genuine (i.e. that it is within the
correct range for your network). Also verify that the router lists the
lease in it's web interface. It's possible that the SB isn't really
associating and is using a failback address whilst looking as if DHCP
is working.
3) Call support :)

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working

2008-11-28 Thread alZmtbr

I had a similar issue with my wireless print-server. Turned out it was
configured with the wrong wireless encryption (WAP I instead of II),
once that was fixed, all was well. Similar in that the printer would
react, then just stop after going through the motions that it was
connected.

So check the encryption as well!

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 vs 3

Yes.

There is a filter on the SB3 that changes the color and will also end
up reducing the light emission.
