Olive, Linn and Naim, to name a few, seem to offer such possibility, though. But as you say, and AFAIK, this relies on third-party proprietary technology on top of UPnP/DLNA. -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

No. IIRC UPNP (of which DLNA is a subset) only supports the player to select, setup and start an audio stream. If two players were to be in sync then the two player would have to communicate with each other with a proprietary protocol and arrange sync between themselves - the server is intended to be minimal - it just provides a stream of data. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

A confusing issue is to make transcoding work roku "emulated" an SB1 then the server knew which kind of files and streams it could use and trans-coded accordingly . So anyone doing this have to do something similar, then it is the UI interface stuff... If the players abilities does not really match any squeezebox then such a vendor has to provide a server patch or similar . This is why there is standard interfaces such as DNLA but apearently it has limits ? We can always hope for a more advanced media player/server standard interface in the future ? -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Roku implemented the slimproto without a license and I think there have been other clients for other hardware such as Chumby and mclient with MediaMVP box. The problem has been the 3rd party hardware vendor has to play catch up with Logitech as slimproto gets tweaked in different versions. This can take a lot of effort. It may be easier now as there is no fw development for IP3K players. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Would the protocol require a license? I've long thought it would be a great opportunity for someone else to make an SBS based player and leverage the work that has gone into Squeezebox Server. Lately (in truth, it's always been true to an extent) SBS has had something of a black eye, so I'm not so sure anyone would really have a desire to do this. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Will it ever be possible... ?
It would be neat if Logitech would licence SlimProto to other hardware vendors... or even better, if someone were to write an "adapter" (and I use that term very loosely) that would allow other hardware to "emulate" a SlimProto-device. Just a pipedream. It's just that I don't see any post-Touch hardware arriving any time soon and I NEED all of the SBS "bells & whistles". I'm not unhappy with the Touch (far from it) but I like to have a future path - or future options - and I'm not sure what that is. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
