Lets get this consensus out of the way. People want to take or use these
laptops that have come in. It wouldn't be fair if one person gets to take a
laptop but not anyone else has to wait until the rest are sorted/assigned.
I say let it rain laptops up in here, you want it, take it, first come
first serve. Any nays?

If that happens make sure Philip gets his. I would still consider him first
come. I however liked and appreciated Omar's enterprising idea of selling stuff
to support the space. Omar, it actually pains me that your motivation is gone

Don't blame Philip, he's impacted as much as everyone else in this. I shot
my guns without having all the info, its not fair to him if people blame
him for my over-zealousness.

Re: [SH-Discuss] The elephant laptop in the room

2013-12-11 Thread Philip P. Patnode
If Omar or anybody else at SH wants to start selling stuff on Craigslist
and eBay Classifieds (both free, both local) on a regular basis for the
benefit of SH, I will be happy to get involved and help them. I can donate
at least 4 hours a week, maybe more to the ongoing project. Properly
managed and maintained, the online selling project could be a significant
source of revenue for SH..

With six years experience doing online selling (Craigslist, eBay
Classifieds, eBay, Etsy, Bid4All, and others) , I have the knowledge and
methods to help SH be successful at raising money by selling stuff that has
been declared excess or unneeded or overstock. Computers, computer
components, hand tools, power tools, and small appliances sell well on both
sites. I am sure that SH has lots of stuff they can and should sell.

Reply by email and we can discuss this further. If the coffee is hot, I
can come to SH to meet interested parties and start planning the project.

Just to let everyone know... I have more laptops and desktops available to

Lets get a plan created and ratified on how to deal with donated assets.

I really like Omar's plans and It saddens me to hear that his drive to help
the space with Computer equiptment triage has been killed by hurt feeling

You can have my warm body to use in evaluating the next batch of computer
equipment to be donated by Justin.

I will be happy to assist Omar in checking the stuff out. No problem with
gofer/asst status. Would be a pleasure to work with him, considering his
knowledge and experience.

Justin - please give a couple of days notice so that the equipment can be
isolated on delivery and evaluated by Omar and his minions when he has the
time and inclination.

2013-12-11 Thread Omar Rassi
There's a few personal reasons I'm taking some steps back from the space,
this situation is not among them. I feel strongly about Synhak and want to
continue doing what I'm doing but soon I won't be in a position to have a
say in what goes on there as demands outside of Synhak consume more of my
prioritization scale. If you guys like what I said, then pick it up and run
with it, don't wait for me.

Re: [SH-Discuss] The elephant laptop in the room

2013-12-11 Thread Philip P. Patnode
The "minion" was meant as humor, not a serious statement. I know that
there are no minions at SH. Now, zombies - that is still under discussion.

Omar, I will be happy to assist you or anybody else in evaluating future
donations of computers and computer related hardware.

I too feel strongly about SH and its potential as a non-profit org that is
open to all and I will continue to donate good stuff and my time to support
the operation.

Craigslist and eBay Classifieds (both free, both local) on a regular basis
for the benefit of SH, I will be happy to get involved and help them. I
can donate at least 4 hours a week, maybe more to the ongoing project.
Properly managed and maintained, the online selling project could be a
significant source of revenue for SH..

If the coffee is hot,
I can come to SH to meet interested parties and start planning the
 project.

Re: [SH-Discuss] The elephant laptop in the room

2013-12-11 Thread Robert Rybicki
I was not placing blame. I am truly sorry if that is how it sounded. I was just
saying three different things. One, if it is going to be a free for all, Philip
gets dibs on his project computer.
Two, I don't like the idea of making it rain because I thought selling stuff
was a great idea to make money. Three, it is a shame, regardless of the reasons
why, Omar is not up for working on it when he was previously so motivated. That
last point makes me sad.

2013-12-11 Thread Bethany Munyan
Well, we all go through things in our personal lives that keep us away from
the space. Yes it is sad, and yes we hope the person will return soon, but
we also need to remember to give that person some respect and privacy.
Mostly I think we just need to let it be. Philip was already given the
laptop yesterday after the meeting. Please, stop repeatedly saying what
you think should happen. If you really want to make a difference, then
show up to the meetings where we talk about these issues and make decisions
on them. Otherwise, I think this entire issue is getting a little bit out
of hand. We should all take a step back. It was discussed at this weeks
meeting in detail, things were said to work towards an end goal of having a
better system. If you have anything else to say on the subject, you should
show up next Tuesday. Happy Hacking, Beth

Re: [SH-Discuss] The elephant laptop in the room

2013-12-12 Thread a l
Robert, please butt in. The whole point of discuss is to get the opinions
of the SynHak community. If people don't give their opinions we as a
community do not grow and we do not cater to the needs of those we seek to
serve. So long as people are constructive towards that end no one should be
told to butt out.

to all: As with some other instances on the list people just sometimes
forget that there are many visual cues that words on a computer screen
cannot convey so be sure the words we are using are as specific as possible
to avoid confusion and unintentional offense.

in excellence,
Andrew L

As an outside party and close friend of Omar, I can verify that he's got some
Real Life issues outside of SYNHAK and they are currently having some big
impact on his contributions. None of it is really related to laptopgate.
