Re: What the...?!?! -- if you write it, I will read it
Title: What the...?!?! I love the Doobie Brothers! and the fan club.I will continue to post(off the list and on) to family members on all types of subjects, doobie related or not.If you write it, I will read it. I am a big girl, in charge of me. My happiness on this list is not, in any way, the responsibility of anyone but myself. I love you guys and look forward to seeing you at different events. I would love to be at the convention but cannot make it this year so I ask that you all have a great time, drink at least one drink for me and keep me up to date on the brothers and yourselves. - Original Message - From: Laurin Willis To: Laurin (E-mail) ; Rockinfela (E-mail) Sent: Friday, May 18, 2001 9:34 AM Subject: What the...?!?! I certainly do apologize to the listserve should anyone have misunderstood my post and I want to clarify any misunderstanding/misinformation that may be out there. We are not looking to disband the club and have it fade into the land of memories. Period. I don't even know where that came from. I will be the one fading into the land of memories, not the club. I do take full responsibility for possibly planning too many events in a short period of time and, ironically, helping to foster a feeling of been there/done that. However, I have never/will never spread apathy disenchantment within this club! Please! My desire has always been to have as many fan club members as possible on board and participating, taking ownership of this club. It was been correctly stated, however, that, "if we want to rekindle that spark, it's clearly up to us."...a single person can only create a spark, it's up to the entire club to make that spark grow into a flame of passion. Yes, I am burned out and, yes, I am in the process of fading into the background. I've discussed this with Pat, Cris, and Keith. Pat's vision was that the club had matured to a point that an actual "leader" was unnecessary. As stated in my note, individual members would step forward with ideas and present them directly to the band. If the band agreed with the idea, then that member would present the idea to the club and run with it. Therefore, a plan is already in place to allow those with "fresh blood and fresh ideas take the wheel for a while" to help rekindle the spark... A single person can create a spark... And yes, Damned the torpedos and full speed ahead. Laurin
RE: DOOBIE BROTHERS DO MEADOWBROOK
Deb, How far up is this. Brendan Hey all: Persistence pays off!!! The Doobies are comin to New Hampshire!! I can hardly wait YAHO!!! Gatherings anyone? Debbie in NH. Title: DOOBIE BROTHERS DO MEADOWBROOK MeadowMail-May 22, 2001 --- ** THE DOOBIE BROTHERS DO MEADOWBROOK ** --- Sun., August 19th @ 8PM Formed in San Jose, California in 1969, the post-hippie rock band the Doobie Brothers had a string of hits during the '70s, returning in the late '80s to become a permanent fixture on the oldies circuit. The group took their name from a time when members shared a joint, proclaiming themselves Doobie Brothers. Thanks to the hit singles Jesus Is Just Alright and Listen to the Music, their 1972 release Toulouse Street, was a commercial breakthrough, setting the stage for their extremely popular 1973 effort "The Captain And Me", which included the Top 10 hit China Grove. 1976's "Takin' It To The Streets" showcased the Doobie's new sound, formulated by the ex-Steely Dan members. Poppy, with a hint of jazz and funk, the new lighter sound propelled sales of the album to platinum levels, revitalizing the band. After releasing a greatest hits compilation, the group returned in 1977 with Livin' on the Fault Line and in 1979 the Doobies released their biggest album to date, 1979's Minute By Minute, which spawned the No. 1 single What a Fool Believes. 1980 brought "One Step Closer" which went platinum on the success of the Top 10 hit Real Love. Great review.gotta love the Bay Area!!! From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Tommy on T.V.!!! Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 15:19:38 EDT Dear MembersThe undeniable benefit of living in the Bay Area just came to passwhile getting ready for work this morning the local Fox affiliate, KTVU, had a piece about the Doobie Brothers with the founding member Tom Johnston being interviewed by Mark Pitta...there were about three short segments in between the morning news, etcTommy was promoting a fundraiser open to the public which will occur this Thursday for St. Mark's School...hoping to produce funds for a gym for the school. The CD, Sibling Rivalry, was also promoted (and shown on camera) and Tommy performed People Gotta Love Again, LTTM, LTR, and Dock of the Bay. This interview took place at the Tiburon Ferry Terminal. Tommy accompanied himself on acoustic guitar and only excerpts of the songs were broadcasted...though LTR got more air time. Mark Pitta even got Tommy to do Dock of the Bay. (Tommy was funny by saying the words will be interesting. Tommy stood up by the railing to do this song and Mark Pit! ! ta joined him for this very shor t segment.) During the interview Tommy mentioned how they just returned last night from Chicago and talked about traveling by bus from about 3 or places. He had a good set of bags under his eyes but played and sang well for an outdoor setting (not studio quality but still good). He sat on a park bench with the interviewer while his family (wife and two kids) were in the background sitting on an adjoining bench. The interview was light hearted mentioning how in the past the band traveled by plane cutting down on travel time (even interjected about the two planes and one burning) but that the part of tour they just returned from was bussed. He liked traveling by plane because he could sleep in and arrive at 12 and take off. Mark Pitta sang with Tommy on the chorus of LTTM and his studio anchors rated him by holding up cards..needless to say they razzed him and gave him very low scores. This was the most I have ever seen Tommy talk. He seemed at ease (or faking it pretty good i! ! f he wasn't). Glad I could pass this along to all of you. What a great way to start the day!!! I don't know why some people get a bug stuck in their craw and can't choke it down!!! Torrey told me that Peter signed up for the Convention..OH GREAT! I really wish he hadn't done that and seriously hope he doesn't show up. I LOVE HIM STILL in spite of himself, but he's just doing it to be a dick. Re:Skunk's Comments on Missiles
For those that are interested, earliear this month someone mentioned Skunk had made comments about missiles in a recent article. But nobody ever posted the comments that he made. A buddy of mine found them and sent them to me. Here is the complete article, or what was sent to me as being the complete article. KC in SJ The Reliable Source can be reached at [EMAIL PROTECTED], or c/o The Washington Post, 1150 15th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., 20071. By Lloyd Grove Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, May 4, 2001; Page C03 Not only is Jeff Skunk Baxter a ponytailed former guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, he's also an expert on missile defense who advises the Pentagon and enjoys what he calls high-level security access. I wrote a paper a long time ago and gave it to a friend, Dana Rohrabacher, the Republican House member from California, Baxter told us. The next thing I know, I'm advising members of Congress and the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization at the Pentagon. The 52-year-old rock-and-roller, who refuses to divulge the origin of his nickname, headlines tonight's Jazzmatazz concert at the Ronald Reagan Building, benefiting Children's National Medical Center. I deal with pretty much everything from the nature of the threat to the technologies and the BMCQ -- which is 'battle management command and control' -- to acquire, track, identify and create a firing solution to defeat that threat. I'm interested in both the doctrine and the theology of missile defense, he continued. Since I don't really have a pony in the race, I can be pretty unbiased. Missile-defense experts tell us that Baxter's the real thing. Jeff is amazingly astute when it comes to this sort of thing, said Lt. Col. Rick Lehner, spokesman for the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, the government agency that oversees all missile defense programs. He knows far more than I do, and I've been in the Air Force for 21 years. Baxter, a D.C. native, said he has never formally studied missile defense; after dropping out of Boston University, I decided to become a rock star, he said. He belonged to Steely Dan from 1971 to 1974 and to the Doobie Brothers from '74 to '80. Today, he keeps 40 guitars at his home in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and plays with the likes of Rod Stewart, Julio Iglesias and Barbra Streisand. It's a changing world, and a lot of people haven't caught up to it yet. Somebody has to take the initiative, Baxter said, arguing that President Bush is right to develop an ambitious missile defense system. Using one of those arms control metaphors that make the groupies swoon, Baxter explained: If you're in a room with two people aiming guns at each other, it's rather easy to keep track of who has the guns. But if the room begins to fill up with people holding guns, you might want to consider the possibility of wearing a bulletproof vest. We're not sure we understand, but it has a good beat and you can dance to it. . _ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe doobiefans-list in the body.
