makes sense, Glenn. question though (for future FAQ maybe)how do you differentiate when you should write a search and when you should write an add-on? i think i have a basic answer, but am looking for clarification. thanks, JB -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Glenn CarrSent: Tuesday, June 04, 2002 1:19 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: RE: [DQSD-Users] googlespell add-on This first example has been cleaned up, and it should be pretty easy to duplicate for other add-ons. RE: [DQSD-Users] googlespell add-on
That's a really good question and people have differing opinions. My opinion is that when a new feature is not really a search, and/or it requires more than just a single XML file, and/or it doesn't have general appeal (i.e., not many will use it) it should be an optional add-on. The googlespell spell check sort of fits these requirements -- multiple files, not general appeal, requires some stuff that normal searches don't (a personal license key) -- in my opinion. It was also a pretty simple one to experiment with as an add-on. Any more thoughts/opinions? Glenn -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of John W. RE: [DQSD-Users] googlespell add-on
The googlespell gets the wsdl file from Google's site, not locally(I couldn't get it to work using the local wsdl). And, it's running in the context of the explorer.exe which controls the desktop andtaskbar. Not sure ifit's possible to change this. Now this works ! One small drawback : my personal firewall tells me explorer.exe (*not* iexplore.exe) tries to access the web (some google IP address on port 80). Re: [DQSD-Users] googlespell add-on
So can the local wdsl file be deleted? The googlespell gets the wsdl file from Google's site, not locally(I couldn't get it to work using the local wsdl).
RE: [DQSD-Users] googlespell add-on
It pulls it from the registry where DQSD puts it during an install. Checkout the googlespell.nsi script. Glenn, I downloaded executed the exe, it installs finelyin the right directory (how does the NSIS fetch its name BTW ?)

It doesn't appear to find a match on Google either for 'alburt instine'. I guess it's too far from matching. Change it to... alburt einstine ...and it should suggest a spelling.
