RE: [drakelist] Help with unlocked TR7

2004-01-26 Thread JR DOOLEY
Walt,

I had my TR7A do this to me - it turned out that a violet wire that ran from
the DR7 to one of the bandswitch wafers was not making good contact. A bit
of DeOxit put it right.

Maybe you will be so lucky.

I just purchased a used TR7. When I power it up, all of the display lights
come on, but the dsiplay reads something like 96Mhz, with some flickering
up/dwn a couple of herts. Turning the band switch and using up/dwn buttons
has no effect. The store button does store the (erroneous) freq
I can't tune in any signals, but all of the rest of the rig seems to work -
ie af and rf gain, filter switches, etc.
I would guess that either the synthesiser isn't locking, or some other osc
isn't wrkng. From looking at this bulletin board, it seems that reseating a
card might wrk. How do i identify the right card, and how is it pulled
without damaging something?
I don't have the service manual yet. Anything I can quickly do to check
this
out? Is it usually an easy problem to fix, or is it something drastic?

It is a fairly late model TR7, around 10,000 s/n

Also, how do I pull the ckt boards to reseat them. Can the edge connectors
be cleaned?
Finally, anything in general I should be checking to get the rig in overall
shape.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!

[drakelist] TR-7 bandswitch

2004-01-26 Thread Russ Hines

Before I pull the back panel bandswitch mounting plate and lose what
bearings may be back there, anyone have a "suggested" method for removing
the TR-7 bandswitch? Any gremlins to watch for?

I need to replace PIN diodes on the HPF and LPF boards, and while it looks
do-able without pulling the boards, I'd like to check other components while
I'm in this radio.

Thanks.

Russ

[drakelist] T-4x Alignment

2004-01-26 Thread George KB2Z
Hi Again All;

Cleaning the switches appears to have corrected the intermittent tx
problem, for now.

Not sure if more cleaning will help the output on 20 and 40M?

I was able to tune the rig on 80 thruogh 10M. The output is approx;
80M = 30W
40M = 140W
20M = 25W
15M = 100W
10M = 75W
I want to try aligning it per the manual and wondered if there were any
hidden land mines to watch out for.

RF and mixer stages instructions 3 to 10 have you peak the inj with a sig gen.
Steps 11 to 18 have you do the rf with the vfo. During steps 11 to 18 do
you re-peak the inj with the rf in any particular order?

Can I use the rx to peak the 160M band? I dont have a 160M tx xtal. The rx
does have a 160 xtal.
Does it matter if I dont peak the 160M band? Dont have an antenna for it
anyway.
I have not tried the rx & tx as a pair yet. Want to get the tx up to snuff
first.
I appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice, George KB2Z

[drakelist] 6jb6 tubes

2004-01-26 Thread kg4d

Good day to the group,
 Was going through my stash of Drake goodies and found something that
might be of interest. I have a matched set of three Sylvania 6JB6 tubes.
These tubes are new and in the original packing material packed in the
box as shipped from R.L. Drake Co. UPS label is dated Dec-6'76. Box has
been opened to inspect contents. Tubes have been tested. Do not like to
do this but, since I have no idea what something like this would be
worth, I will entertain any offers(RFparts matched trio $88.50 doubt they
are Sylvania). If interested please contact direct.

[drakelist] FS Collins CP-1

2004-01-26 Thread Bruce Marton

Hello,
I have an excellent condition CP-1 crystal pack for sale. It is missing
about a half dozen crystals and the forceps, otherwise it is in fine
shape, no rips or scuffs of the printing of frequencies.

$180 plus shipping

P.S.
Sorry this isn't a Drake related Item, but I know most of you guys are
like me, you collect both stations, so I thought it would be nice to
post it here before the Collins reflector!

[drakelist] 2c Parts needed

2004-01-26 Thread Gary Poland

I bought a 2C parts radio with the intent of having
it for just the parts but the darn thing works. I am not going to try and
restore it like new, the chassis is nasty, but would like a few needed
parts to make it usable. I need a front panel, condition not important, the
hollow shaft for the band filter switching, knobs, the 11 MHz and 18 MHz
crystals, and if possible a cabinet.

RE: [drakelist] T-4x Alignment

2004-01-26 Thread Gerry

I don't know about the others but the biggest pain for me is checking the
height of the ganged tuning slugs. They have to be set exactly per the
manual and I think the difference between some of them is only about 1/32
inch. Had an old one where the tuning mechanism had slipped a little and I
couldn't tell if the slugs were white or yellow. They looked somewhere in
between. Tried the alignment using the white settings and it didn't work.
Found out they were yellow after all. But it still never worked right on 10
meters. The trimmers were out of range and I couldn't neutralize the finals.
It worked as expected up through 15 but on 10 things fell apart. Turned out
to be the parasitic plate chokes. You wouldn't think it was important but
something must have happened to those 2 watt resistors over time. They went
up in value to about 62 to 68 Ohms. It didn't seem important but replacing
both of the chokes fixed the 10 meter problem. It became apparent when I
used a return loss bridge to check the final tuning circuit.

[drakelist] TR7 Volume

2004-01-26 Thread Bill Carpenter

I just acquired a TR7 that works great except for
the volume control.  It won't reduce the volume all the way even when fully
CCW and ready to engage the off switch.  It appears to be a ganged
volume/on-off switch.  Anyone had this happen and if so, what's the
fix?

Hi Bill,

Thats normal, mine does that too. Something about the value of the pot at max resistance doesnt silence the rig. Slightly annoying but eventually you get used to it. 73
