Nice station! The original WARC kit as seen are the chips (diode) for the AUX-7 board which would allow the TR-7 series rigs to operate on the WARC bands. Later kits were much simpler and consisted of an Exacto Knife and a brief set of instructions. :-)) 73, Jay/AF2C At 12:12 PM 12/12/04 -0500, you wrote: doc [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Just spotted this in case anyone wants the original Drake WARC Mod Kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=4671item=5736411712rd=1 I know nothing about the seller and have nothing to do with the sale, just thought I'd share the info in case someone has been searching for one of these. -- Thanks! 73, doc kd4e West Central Florida 100% Linux. [drakelist] Drake R4B Bad Caps Question
Kevin Gray [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- I am working on a R4B and have a noise when I turn on the rig. I am assuming it is the caps in the Can. I looked on the Drake site and saw that W8UT had a good fix. I was wondering if anyone has tried this method of fixing a R4B or if there is anywhere to buy a can already manufactured with these caps. [drakelist] Source for Silver Mica Caps (L7 10m Mod)
Dino Papas [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Anybody have a good source for the 68pf silver micas that you need to add to the input circuitry to complete the 10m mod? SM's are getting hard to find, especially the DM19/20 size. The value seems to be plentiful at the 500V level (DM15) but I think the higher capacity is needed. I've done the input low pass filter bypass already (just shifted the coax input leads on the PCB as detailed in WB8RXI's mod article) -- is that sufficient or should I bite the bullet and dig in and just replace that coax run (doesn't look like a lot fo fun though...). Re: [drakelist] TR-7 Receiver Noise
Dieter Horst [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Hi Vic and group, some years ago I replaced a 'semi-faulty' transistor in the audio chain which caused some kind of noise or rumble. Unfortunately, I don't remember which transistor it was. It most likely was located on the 2nd IF / Audio board. In general, try to find out whether your noise is caused by the audio amp or some other source. What happens if you disconnect the antenna? BTW, the hum from the switch line for the PS7 mentioned by other list members, I encountered here as well. 73, Dieter DL5RDO [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Greetings. I recently put a TR-7 on the air that I purchased several months ago. All is fine except that there is what I can best describe as a low frequency rumble noise that is most noticable when using headphones. It is very audible even with the RF gain set to max and the audio gain set to min. I have listed with another receiver and do not hear this noise, so I don't think I have any interference in the shack. When tuning in signals, there does not appear to be any distortion, but the background noise is very noticable. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Al Parker [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Hi Tim, et al, My work is shown at: http://www.thecompendium.net/radio/filtercap.htm and it's also linked to from Thom's Drake site's tech notes pg; http://www.zerobeat.net/drakelist/ It takes about an hour to open the can, clean it out, put in new discretes, and seal it up. Not a dificult job, I explain it more on that page. Also on the same page, I've got info supplied by Mark, K9MRK, on caps of proper size to fit under the chassis of an AC-3/4. There's not a lot of space there, or in the rcvrs, so physical dimensions need to be watched when purchasing caps. 73, Al, W8UT New Bern, NC BoatAnchors appreciated here http://www.thecompendium.net/radio/ http://www.hammarlund.info - Original Message - From: Tim Kass [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2004 6:05 PM Subject: RE: [drakelist] Drake R4B Bad Caps Question Tim Kass [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Kevin, I dont remember what W8UT did, probably the same thing that Im telling you, but I saw a neat fix that someone did on one of my R4B's, left the electrolytic can in place so it looked stock, but cut all the leads from it underside and wired in separate small electrolytics...works great. Otherwise, its difficult to find replacements. Al Parker [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- Hi Devin, et al, Yes that method works fine. Space for discrete caps under the chassis is a bit hard to find.
