[drakelist] L75, burning smell

2005-07-23 Thread eqtc

--
Hi all,

I found the problem of the burning smell and the clue is surprising but
actually to be expected...

After carefull examination of the L75, I concluded the smell did NOT come
from it. Then I suspected the tuner, the MN2700 but also no typical odour
coming from there During reassembling the setup I coincidently checked
the cable between the L75 and the tuner and that was it! I was using a
RG58 cable with BNC connectors and adaptors from PL to BNC, thinking that
should do on HF. Well I can assure you folks, IT DOESN'T hi!!
I now use a piece of Ecoflex 10 and two PL-plugs and I have a fresh odour
in the shack :)

Many thanks for all suggestions, 73 Dick PA2DW

Bert,
E-bay and greed has taken its tole on the hobby. Years past I was only
able to find a few pieces for my radio room via e-bay, and gave reasonable
prices then. But since about 3-5 years ago the auction sites have made
the hobby much less enjoyable. It wouldn't even be so bad if the
descriptions were not fraudulent. I bought a whole box of tubes that were
"new old stock" with writing on the boxes saying what was wrong with each
tube. That was my last e-bay purchase. Oh, and e-bay was useless in
helping me.

Which is one of the reasons that I allow for sale posts, in moderation, here and
have the online classifieds.

But that too is getting polluted, as I suspect some of the posts here about
items for sale are from folks "in the business".

Tom,
The bandswitch when rotated programs the digital control board. The
digital control board tied through the DR-7 board then instructs the
translator board what to do as far as band segments and in band logic. I
would try pulling the DR-7 board and reseating the digital control and
translator boards. Also sometimes if the DR-7 is seated to far into the
translator board, aft left corner, the pins will short and cause problems.
probably also try cleaning the bandswitch with deoxit and a cotton swab.

I have had the exact opposite experience. Ebay has enhanced my enjoyment of
the hobby. If your looking for speciality items, Ebay is the only place to
find them. Just as some of the avid and professional collectors. Anything
and everything is available on Ebay. That is what makes if fun and interesting!

Sorry that you had a bad experience on Ebay. I've had several myself
But then again I had several bad experiences this week alone But
they weren't from Ebay.

What REALLY galls me is that the "business" folks think they have every right to

[drakelist] WTB MAcom MA4P4002D pin diode and Magnecraft W104MIP42 relay for Scott Prathers TR7 mods

2005-07-23 Thread Jim Pruitt

"Jim Pruitt" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang
--
Hello everyone.

I just purchased the pc boards from FAR for Scott Prather's TR7 mods that
appeared in summer 92 Communications Quarterly and in KB9AT's book "A Family
Affair: The RL Drake Story" and am finding that the MA4P4002D pin diode is
not obtainable. Richardson electronics has a few MA4P4002B-042 but it does
not have the power dissipation of the "D" version and I want to run Rtty.
Would anyone have one of those pin diodes they would be willing to part
with?

I know that there was some discussion on this list or the Elecraft list that
suggested using the 1N4007 diode but Scott indicated that he did not think
that would work that well. I asked about the MA4P1200 that
DownEastMicrowave.com sells but Scott thought the recovery time was not good
enough. The MA4P4002B-042 will work but may not handle the power needed.

Also, I am trying to find the Magnecraft W104MIP42 reed relay for the qsk
board. I found 3 places that have them. 2 places want $60 each and the
other wants $40. Does anyone have one of these relays they would be willing
to part with at a reasonable price?

As a side note, I thought the Aromat RSD12 spdt reed relay for the front end
board would be easy to find but I was wrong. I found that they have also
been discontined. Rich Measures AG6K bought a bunch of them when Aromat
informed him that the relay was being discontinued so he has those for sale
at around $10 each but that was the only source that I have found so far.

Thank you.
