I believe he said that he had tried another AC-4.? If not, that is certainly the first suspect! Perhaps I have confused one of the other (five) problems I've got working... :-) Lou, if I did confuse this, definitely try either another supply or at least bridge a suitable cap on the LV supply. If you are able to set the idle current correctly the BIAS supply is probably ok. If this IS the problem, get and install the AC-4R 'upgrade' kit from the Heathkit Shop. Garey, I changed R-135 to 33K and it did the trick. I now have bias of -11 volts. Thanks for your help. Try turning the ANTI-VOX down all the way, and then bringing up slowly until it just prevents tripping of VOX. As you can see, it's a fairly high impedance circuit, so can be difficult to troubleshoot. You should be seeing closer to -5 to -6V on Pin 2 in receive. Depending upon your unit serial number, you might try reducing R135 from 68k to 33k. This stiffens the cutoff supply and you should see closer to -10V on PIn 2 with key-up. Since you have eliminated the supply, another possibility is that the 6EV7 is slightly gassy, which again causes tube to want to continue conducting after it is told to cut off, especially after long transmissions! Re: [drakelist] T-4XB problem?
Garey Barrell [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Bill - That's where I'd start! Easy things first. Generally speaking, nominal oxidation of the RCA connectors isn't a problem. Salt or other corrosive atmospheres can alter that, but usually just plugging and unplugging connectors a couple of times will clear any problem. One of the nice things about tube gear is that the voltages and currents can burn through normal oxidation. On the other hand, solid-state gear often is repaired by merely unplugging and resetting cables and internal PC cards, etc. One problem that does affect the RCA connectors is their tendency to lose tension, both in the center female socket and the outer male shell. It should require a little effort to unplug a cable, if it just falls out it's a good idea to squeeze the shell and the center socket to tighten them up. 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B C-Line Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com Bill Ellis wrote: Garey, Thanks for the info.
