[Dri-devel] alan cox savage driver does not enable direct rendering on my computer

2003-11-09 Thread Giustiniano
Hi :)
I've used the patch of alan cox on kernel 2.4.22 and selected the S3
driver module from menuconfig: I've tried both to build it inside the
kernel and to create it as a module, however, glxinfo says I've direct
rendering disabled, even if lsmod displays the module "savage" as loaded.
I use xfree 4.2.1.1.
I attach the /var/log/XFree86.log, hoping it can be helpful

This is a pre-release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any

2003-11-09 Thread Alex Deucher
make sure you add the dri and glx modules under the modules section of
your config file. It doesn't look like anything dri related is loading
in the driver. Did you apply the latest code drop from alan or VIA to
your xfree86 tree? you might want to try the code in the savage-2-0-0
branch of the DRI cvs tree.

The savage-2-0-0-branch is not yet sufficient to get DRI enabled as it
still lacks the 3D driver. Rafael Máximo is working on porting that
driver to Mesa 5 which is necessary in order to compile it in the
current DRI CVS tree.

The only way to get hardware accelerated 3D at the moment is to download
XFree86 4.2.0 sources, apply the VIA code drop from
http://www.linux.org.uk/~alan/S3.zip and compile it yourself. It takes a
little tweaking to get it to compile, though.

Regards,
  Felix
