Hello Helix,
Thanks for your reply. It really helped and following your suggestions I was
able to start debugging.
Using the full build option as you advised, when i run ant update_webapps or
ant update although the webapps folder is updated but I still don't see the
changes that I have made in JSPs when i run the DSpace - JSPUI Web Application
Resource project. Can you suggest me some other solution to solve this issue.
waiting for your kind reply.

[Dspace-tech] XSLT XPATH error

2012-09-04 Thread Benjamin Ryan
Hi,
When attempting to suppress the rendering of the "Community
List" on the front page I am using the following template:

This works Ok but also suppresses the rendering on the "Community &
Collections" page.

   I have tried:

To limit the template to the front page only but this gives the
error:

javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: A node test that
matches either NCName:* or QName was expected.
context:/jndi:/localhost/sc-xmlui/themes/Mirage/lib/xsl/core/page-structure.xsl
- 633:172

Any ideas? If not does anybody have a work round for this?

Regards,
Ben

I don't know _exactly_ why (I would never write my expression that
way), but it has to do with the ".." part when used in context of the
dri namespace.

I also noticed you didn't create your own theme overriding Mirage, but
you modified Mirage directly. This will come back to bite you in
behind during your next DSpace upgrade. The Right Way(TM) is to create
a new theme and xsl:include your parent theme, overriding any
templates you want to change.

[Dspace-tech] Changing Language in submitting items

2012-09-04 Thread Alexandre Zart
Hello

Is possible, in submission process, to inform what is the idiom of the text
being submitted? When I edit an item, there is a column named "Language",
how do I change this idiom? Is it possible to insert in more than one
idiom? Or to relate each field being informed with a different idiom (if I
inform more than one text for the same metadata, as the "abstract", for
example)?

Hi Alexandre,

you didn't mention which DSpace version, interface (JSPUI/XMLUI) and
XMLUI theme you're using (which you always should), so I'll assume
DSpace 1.8.2 XMLUI.

When you go to an item, click "Edit this item" in the menu, "Item
Metadata" tab, there is thelanguage column next to each metadata
value. You can either enter a language code or leave it empty. If you
want to add a second value of a metadata field with a different
language, just use the "Add new
metadata" form on the top of the page, filling in the language code
you want. You can have any number of values or languages for each
metadata field.

[Dspace-tech] adding to DSpace remotely

2012-09-04 Thread Darren Arsenault
Hi all,

I'm just looking for a little advice here. I am using DSpace 1.8.0, JSPUI
(though I don't think it matters for my question).

I want to add items to DSpace from a different server. This server/dataset is
not OAI-PMH compliant, and even if it was, I do not want to harvest the data
because I do not want everything on that server brought into DSpace. I want
people who are uploading to that server to be able to check a box (or push a
button, etc., the type of event is of no concern) and have their content
automatically uploaded to DSpace.

My first thought is that I can simply add the data to the DSpace database with
remote ADO or other such code. Has anyone else tried something like this in the
past? Does anyone see any flaws in my idea that might make it
impossible/difficult?

Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

Hi Darren,

SWORD is what you are looking for. The server your users submit to
would be the SWORD client and DSpace where you want the content
submitted automatically would be the SWORD server. DSpace supports
SWORD in both roles. Even if your client server is not DSpace, a SWORD
client is quite easy to write, there are even lots of examples (e.g.
in PHP) on the web.

SWORD (both client and server) is documented in the official User Guide:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/DSpace+1.8+Documentation

[Dspace-tech] RES: Changing Language in submitting items

2012-09-04 Thread Alexandre Zart
Hi Helix84,

Sorry, I forgot these informations were essential. The version we are working
with is the 1.6.2, in JSP. I didn't find this menu item you mentioned, I have
only "Metadata registry", wich doesn't have the "Item Metadata" option.
I have the options "Communities/collections; E-people; Groups; Items; Metadata
registry; Bitstream format registry; Workflow; Authorization; Edit news; Edit
default license; Supervisors; Statistics; Import metadata; Withdrawn items", in
the "Administer" menu option .

I have 1.8.2 JSPUI available, there should be no major differences.
The equivalent menu (to edit an item) is not in "Administer". You have
to first open an item, then (logged in as an administrator) you'll see
the "Admin Tools" menu on the top right. But I see that JSPUI doesn't
offer the language column. I'm sorry, it seems this currently can't be
done from the JSPUI interface.

One thing you might want to consider is continuing to use JSPUI for
browsing (your users) and using XMLUI for editing items (your
editors). Both UIs can be installed and run in parallel without a
problem.

Also Google for the Dev Challenge at OR2012, the Cottage Labs people presented

Also check out https://github.com/kshepherd for "EasyDeposit" and

[Dspace-tech] Enhancing DSpace thumbnail image resolution

2012-09-04 Thread Calloni, Rodrigo
Hello

I am integrating the DSpace team here at IDB and I am glad to be part of this
nice discuss list.

We are running DSpace 1.6.2 and my first task is to enhance the resolution of
the thumbnails that DSpace generates every day.

By reading the DSpace documentation I found that the problem might be because
we are creating very small images. Here is how we have dspace.cfg set:

thumbnail.maxwidth 110
thumbnail.maxheight 110

In the documentation I found that we can increase the size of the thumbnail
file and still show a small file in the UI. For example:

## Image size
thumbnail.maxwidth 300
thumbnail.maxheight 300

## Image display on UI
webui.browse.thumbnail.maxheight = 110
webui.browse.thumbnail.maxwidth = 110

I wonder if this change in the setup will make us accomplish what we want with
the image resolution. Could anyone share an optimum configuration for this in
your system?

And last question, what do we need to run in order to make DSpace recreate the
current thumbnails using the new setup.

Thanks in advance
Rodrigo

Yes, I think so. You can test it on one specific item with the -i
parameter to [dspace]/bin/dspace/filter-media. (see
[dspace]/bin/dspace/filter-media -h for a list of all options)

[dspace]/bin/dspace filter-media -f
