[Dspace-tech] Author Profile Implementation

2015-06-18 Thread euler
Dear All,

I would like to ask from the DSpace community if any of you have implemented
the Author Profile: DS-2169 .
I've seen in the pull request ( https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/668
) that it has *merge conflicts
that must be resolved*. So before I try to merge this feature in our
repository, I wonder if what will be the repercussions of this. Any tips and
advices are welcome. I would also like to request if you can share the url
of your repository in case you have already implemented this. Our management
like the idea of having our researchers' profile available in the repository
and it is also one way to promote their research works in one place. Another
reason why we would like to have an author profile is because of the
proposal from webometrics (see item no. 10)
http://repositories.webometrics.info/en/node/26
  .

Thanks in advance and regards,
euler

I've tried open-search but it seems only to have XML (Atom or RSS) as an option.

Yes, try Solr with "&wt=json":

Kia ora Anton,

(cc dspace-tech since I get slightly techie here)

I think you've identified the basic difference - do you want an integrated
system to support - which will be more flexible and extensible in terms of
UI and intermediate transformation, but require more initial work and
ongoing maintenance - or keep things simple with the out-of-box submission
processes?

I personally have tended to use SWORD for deposit so I can do whatever I
like in the [self or mediated] deposit forms, integrated apps, etc.

If you plan to use authority control, it is true that using external forms
you'd have to implement some lookups again (I have some WIP on this sort of
thing, based on a prototype we made at OR2014) but you're not locked out of
using authority control altogether - you can pass the keys in with the
ingest metadata, as far as I know:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Authority+Control+of+Metadata+Values#AuthorityControlofMetadataValues-UnattendedSubmission

Some questions that might help you choose:

* Do you have staff/infrastructure resource to support an external thesis
deposit webapp?
* Do you have design requirements that differ wildly from the out of box
look/feel of XMLUI submission?
* Do you have requirements to do other clever things with deposited theses
- eg. submit to multiple repositories, submit to bindery, catalogue, etc.
* Do you have requirements to use authority control without too much extra
development?
* Do your staff (who will be involved in thesis deposit) already use your
DSpace submission forms for other processes?

Cheers

Kim

Hi,
I previously reported a problem with search results that I was seeing with my
DSpace 5.2 Mirage2 XMLUI installation. helix84 and Hilton Gibson pointed me to
the search snippets and the solr index.
I’ve done some poking around, and I can’t seem to find what’s causing this.
So, I am going to see if anyone can help.
Here is the problem:
In the search results display (if the item has no abstract), the search
snippets displays field names in the search results, such as
“stream_source_info” and “stream_content_type” and “stream_size”

Here’s an example (I did a search on the term “vineyard”):

Pellegrini Vineyards
Hearn, Russell (2008)
stream_source_info Hearn_PellegriniVineyards_WIWP_2008.pdf.txt
stream_content_type text/plain stream_size 2036 Content-Encoding UTF-8
stream_name Hearn_PellegriniVineyards_WIWP_2008.pdf.txt Content-Type
text/plain; charset=UTF-8...
Pellegrini Vineyards 4/30/08 Pellegrini Vineyards •  FIRST VINTAGE: 1991 •
OPERATED BY: Bob and Joyce Pellegrini •  WINEMAKER: Russell Hearn •  WINES: •
East End Select- Chardonnay, Rosé, Merlot •  Pellegrini Vineyards- Chardonnay,
Merlot...

If I add an abstract to the item (Let’s say, “This is a draft of the Vineyard
Report from 2008”, then the search displays changes to:

Pellegrini Vineyards
Hearn, Russell (2008)
This is a draft of the Vineyard Report from 2008

Does anyone have any ideas why these field names would appear in my search
results? I rebuilt my solr indexes (dspace index-discovery –b) and that
didn’t seem to help.

[Dspace-tech] How the batch metadata edit is safe from creating data inconsistency

2015-06-18 Thread Maatari
Hi,

I wonder how is handled batch metadata edit in dspace, such that to avoid
data inconsistency.

More specifically, Let say that i have an item that is archived. but still
in the review workflow.

Let say someone is reviewing the metadata of an item, while a batch edit is
being done by someone else.

I wonder what happens in that case.

Indeed, this person will have a page with some metadata value that will be
changed in the background.

What happens when that person save the item ? Does it erase the operation of
the batch edit ?

I need to implement a functionality similar to the batch edit, that is, an
operation that will change some record on the background from time to time.
It has to do with Taxonomy management.
Hence, i wonder what are my options to update item metadata values in the
background, such that is does not interfere with eventually item that are
being reviewed.

Many thanks in advance.

M

Re: [Dspace-tech] Mirage 2/Compass Question

2015-06-18 Thread Adam Strohm
Hi Hilton,

Thanks for sending along that customization link! I think it's gotten me on
the right track, as I hadn't seen the /*source
*/dspace-xmlui-mirage2/src/main/webapp/styles/
directory and was attempting to edit in src/dspace/modules/xmlui-mirage2 as
suggested on github.

I'm still having Compass issues, though, and perhaps you can help elucidate
things.

I'm editing the _bootstrap_variables.scss file located at
 /src/dspace-xmlui-mirage2/src/main/webapp/styles/classic_mirage_color_scheme,
and have used the compass watch command in the
/dspace/webapps/xmlui/themes/Mirage2 directory, but the edits I make aren't
being noticed by Compass, so the css isn't being re-compiled.

The config.rb file for Compass, located at
/dspace/webapps/xmlui/themes/Mirage2 is set with an http_path of
"/themes/boostrap/" and the css and scss directories set to "styles".

Perhaps there's some issue with our directory structure, as I notice your
suggestions refer to $HOME/webapp and $HOME/source, where we have
$HOME/dspace/webapps and $HOME/src/ and no source or src directory within
$HOME/dspace.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again,
Adam

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace 5_x + Oracle on Vagrant

2015-06-18 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Monika,

It looks like it's trying to connect with:

"Driver: org.postgresql.Driver"

(according to the output of your "dspace database test")

This implies that your dspace.cfg probably has the wrong value for
"db.driver". It should be:

db.driver=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver

So you may want to update this in your dspace.cfg and try again. Also
may want to update it in your "build.properties" (as that's what
populates the dspace.cfg). In the case of vagrant-dspace, it uses a
custom "vagrant.properties" by default.

Thanks Mark. I just had another idea as well. We already have this community
under a separate, unique, XMLUI theme. Could we alter that theme to include a
redirect META tag, that redirects to the new location, or to a service that
finds the appropriate URL? I don't know if XMLUI themes can do things like that.

The actual difficulty is that the Handle resolver that comes with
DSpace is already hacked: it is configured to use a custom storage
backend which depends on DSpace's Handle table. A stock Handle
resolver would be able to comprehend having this resource on service
A, that on service B...but DSpace doesn't know how to deal with the
resolver directly. The two services communicate through the shared
database.

It probably wouldn't take too much effort to build a new Handle
provider that interacts with a stock Handle resolver, and I've been
thinking that that is really the way for DSpace to go. Has anyone
already done that?

[Dspace-tech] AIP packager and Java heap space

2015-06-18 Thread Fredrick, Rose L.
Hello,

When we run the AIP packager command for a large collection (15,000 items), it
stalls out with this error:
Java.lang.OutofMemoryError: Java heap space

Is it expected that the AIP packager will require a lot of Java Heap space, or
are we experiencing another problem with the packager command? We'd like to
know a bit more before we take it to our IT department.

Hi,

The REST connector that is used to do the ORCID lookup fails if the service is
behind a firewall and has to use a proxy. I?ve got this to work by getting the
proxy from the dspace.cfg file and if its not blank then using this in the http
request. It looks the same on the DSpace github. Is this an issue or have I
missed some configuration mechanism for achieving this?

We recently updated to Dpsace 5.1, and would like to explore using the Mirage 2
theme, but I'm running into a little trouble getting Compass to see and compile
the changes we're making.

The readme.md file on github indicates that edits should be made in
src/dspace/modules/xmlui-mirage2, and that Compass should be set to watch the
webapp's xmlui/themes/Mirage2 folder. I'm having trouble, though, getting
compass to see the edits I make in the xmlui-mirage2 folder (either editing the
provided _style.scss folder, or adding new files to overwrite the default
Mirage 2 files), and even when we changed Compass' sass location in the
config.rb file, Compass noticed the edits, but didn't update anything in the
xmlui/themes/Mirage2 directory.

Is there something obvious that I'm missing, or is there any reason that I
can't just edit the files in the webapp's xmlui/themes/Mirage2 directory?
Any pointers or advice would be appreciated. I'm familiar with Sass and
Compass, but the Mirage 2 customization process seems much more complicated
than others I've worked with.

Thanks,

Any ideas on how we can eliminate the need for xmlui in the URL?

Would defining a context path file of root.xml with docbase set to

Any other ideas besides the context path file?

That is how you do it, except that the name must be ROOT.xml
(uppercase ROOT).

[Dspace-tech] moving a subset of Handles out of DSpace

2015-06-18 Thread Halliday, James Leonard
Hi all,

We have a DSpace instance which has one community that has moved elsewhere (to
OJS). So there are 4000+ items that are no longer valid and should be removed,
withdrawn, or deleted. I would like to have the handles for those 4000 articles
redirect to the corresponding article in OJS. But I assume this requires
hacking the handle server? Has anyone done something like this before or have
any tips?

Hi Alastair,

I noticed this right away from the DSpace docs.
See:
http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Researcher_Identification/5.X/ORCID#Requirements
I have added a warning, since I am not sure that all the DSpace code obeys
the proxy settings.
The proxy settings is a recent addition.

Re: [Dspace-tech] ldap configuration

2015-06-18 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Saidy,

A blank page likely means there's some error behind the scenes (possibly
even unrelated to you LDAP configs). You should check your log files for
any error messages reported there.

Here's some tips on finding & troubleshooting error messages in your logs:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error

Once you find the error, if you cannot figure it out, feel free to send
the full error message to this mailing list and we'll try to help you out.

We recently updated to Dpsace 5.1, and would like to explore using the
Mirage 2 theme, but I'm running into a little trouble getting Compass to
see and compile the changes we're making.

The readme.md file on github indicates that edits should be made in
src/dspace/modules/xmlui-mirage2, and that Compass should be set to watch
the webapp's xmlui/themes/Mirage2 folder. I'm having trouble, though,
getting compass to see the edits I make in the xmlui-mirage2 folder (either

the default Mirage 2 files), and even when we changed Compass' sass

Is there something obvious that I'm missing, or is there any reason that I
can't just edit the files in the webapp's xmlui/themes/Mirage2 directory?
Any pointers or advice would be appreciated. I'm familiar with Sass and

[Dspace-tech] xmlui mirage2 ds5.1 - show local vs. UTC time

Hi there,

We would like to display the local time for date accessioned and date available

I see http://sourceforge.net/p/dspace/mailman/message/29889171/ has a solution

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-5_x/dspace-xmlui/src/main/webapp/themes/Mirage/lib/xsl/aspect/artifactbrowser/item-view.xsl
but don't know where to start.

Can someone point me in the right direction(s)?

Can you connect up and search the ldap server you are using from an ldap client

administrator in a University I work for I was tasked on setting up DSpace. I
have gotten a bit of experience especially when it came to Installing and
setting up DSpace. I have gotten some knowledge on how Maven and Ant work, as
well as Tomcat and so on. I have also become fairly familiar with how to build
DSpace after making small or major configuration changes.

I am stuck however, with when it comes to making interface changes, style and
layout and adding new images. Whenever I make changes and for some reason I
have to rebuild, everything gets lost and I have to re-do my stylesheet and say
for example header layout changes. Is there a way to make these changes so that
when I perform an ant update the changes I make in my [dspace]/webapps folder
do not change?

Thank you for your assistance.

No such thing as a silly question - always worth checking the obvious :-)

But yes, the Shib Authentication class is listed first (with Password
authentication second as a fall back for external users) . . . .

Yes, agreed - I thought it odd that I couldn't see any of these log lines
appearing when logging on . . . .

It certainly seems that way on the evidence so far . . .

I will try and find some time to investigate again and will try this . . .

That's good to know - I'll have another play with this at some point and see if
I can learn any more - if I do, I'll obviously share what I find :-)

Thanks again,

Mike

Re: [Dspace-tech] OAI behind a proxy

2015-06-18 Thread Domingo Iglesias
Hi Alan,

Thanks for your reponse.

I wrote the url of the production environment working with dspace 1.8.x. We
are working in a test environment with version 5.2 and with another url and
hostname.
I'm sorry for the confusion.

As you suggest, I have checked the dspace.hostname in dspace.cfg and I have
the public hostname. I think oai module builds some links getting info from
the http headers and/or environment, not from the dspace configuration
files. Thats the reason why I think I need to make some changes in the code.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!
