[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Identifying items with missing bitstreams in batch

2012-08-28 Thread Mark Kariuki
Hi,

I ran batch import via Simple Archive Format for my DSpace install since I
had over 6000 items from other phased out repositories, however, most of the
items lacked files attached to them.
As you browse through the items in the collections you encounter "There are
no files linked to this item".

What I require is a way in which to identify all the items that do not have
bitstreams associated with them so that I can hand this list to our
librarian for him to locate the necessary files. Does such a way exist?

Thanks,
Mark

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Collection specific Links in sidebar menu

2012-08-24 Thread Mark Kariuki
Hi all,

Is there a way to have a link to the website for a collection appearing in
the sidebar menu?
Such that as you switch between the collections, you can have a link to the
collection's website or page under the context section?

Thanks,
Mark

Thank you. Just a little clarification, since it is unclear from the
DuraSpace link and from what you said, should I disallow Browse? (i.e
uncomment the line Disallow:/browse)?

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Offline browesable Repository

2012-08-23 Thread Mark Kariuki
Hi people,

My organization works from remote areas that have limited internet access,
so I have been tasked with finding out if we can export our entire
repository to say a DVD, that will be issued to field agents, and they can
browse content without requiring internet access. Is this possible? and if
so, how to do it?

Thanks,
Mark

Thank you, I have been able to achieve what I wanted. Though I had to make a
slight change since it seems like these customizations are tailored to a
DSpace installation that has Discovery enabled.

I have boldened the sections that I modified, since I am yet to activate
Discovery, and the change made the Search box disappear, this is why the
Browse By was disappearing yet the Search box wasnt.

this removes the search box on the front page for my non-discovery
repository:

artifactbrowser*.*FrontPageSearch*.div.front-page-search']">

etc.

Thank you again!. New Question coming up

No actually this collapse happens even with the default Mirage theme, even
after cache clearance.

I have cleared the cache severally, but the search box wont disappear, the
Browse By section becomes hidden but causes the side panel to collapse,

I wonder if this has something to do with the http://scholar.sun.ac.za/
SunScholar Theme , which is actually a very good theme to build upon that is
based on Mirage.

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Re: [SPAM] Restructuring Mirage theme - "Search box", "Browse By" and "News"

Hi Helix84,

Thanks for the swift reply, however, I placed that snippet in my theme's xsl
but the search box still appeared. I have not setup Discovery as yet, I
don’t know if this could be the issue, what I meant is that I wanted it
completely gone, so that the only search form is the one on the right hand
panel.

Attached is a collection view screenshot

1. This is the search box that appears throughout the DSpace hierarchy that
I wanted to hide, I tried searching through the install for the i18n message
text, so that I can find where it is referenced in an XSL file, but it isn’t
referenced anywhere else apart from messages.xml

2. This is the Browse By section that appears in the collections, I would
want to remove that also or atleast move it to the right panel as well, the
main idea being that I want the items in the repository to appear first,
have more emphasis.

3. This is the news segment that I would want to move also.

Thanks

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Restructuring Mirage theme - "Search box", "Browse By" and "News"

Hi All,

I have searched on how to remove the search box that appears on the home
page and on all the collections but the answers I got were not tailored to
the Mirage theme

As shown below, how can I remove the search box in Mirage, so that I am left
with only the search panel on the right hand side?
http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/file/n4656966/this.jpg

Also, I have a feeling that this restructuring is related to having the
ability to move the "Browse By" section to the highlighted right hand side
as well. The ability to perform such restructuring would be awesome.

Thanks in advance

I think its coz I unsubscribed frm the tech mailing list and am using Nabble
to post, but I solved the issue, the incomplete import was being caused by
the fact that some files had their extensions removed from them eg
Document1.pdf becomes Document1. and also in the content file, this could be
a bug because all this was exported by DSpace itself..

Hi Guys,

I managed to make most of the customizations, thanks to your help and here

one last thing though...I have been racking my brain trying to fix the
search problem in a different way apart from changing the root app in my
Tomcat settings. I am sure it requires modification to some XSLs but I
cannot seem trace them. Please have a look and tell me what you think. It is
based on the SUNScholar theme, with mimetype icons appearing in item-view.

This worked, sorry for the delayed reply, I however realize that this issue
was more to do with Tomcat rather than DSpace itself, and since I was trying
to study the workings of this theme so that I can have the power to modify
my own Mirage I landed into a couple of other issues. I am afraid to raise
them because it will be like opening Pandoras box, because my major
limitation is a deadline, otherwise I would have gone on to dig deep into
reading XSL modifications and even the wiki entries that Hilton posted, but
I am looking for a quick fix, though once the repo is up, I can go further
into grasping all the concepts and maybe even contributing my own
modifications to the DSpace theme repository. So thanks for the help.

Hi Hilton,

I am using DSpace 1.8.2 and as for the link, I dont have one yet, I am
working from my local machine since I am a noob, then at the end of the week
I am hoping to push it up to my organizations Rackspace server, where DSpace
is already setup but lacking any customizations. So what I am doing is
working on customizations locally, then documenting so that I can replicate
these on the server. I will put up a link once this is done.

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Re: [SPAM] Re: Sample Manakin Theme

Thanks so much,

I am referring to the SUNScholar theme found in the zipped file here
http://web.lib.sun.ac.za/style/sunscholar/http:// HERE

I noticed that upon installing the theme and searching, it loads a blank
page and not the search result. I also noticed that the url it produces is
localhost:8081/search instead of localhost:8081/xmlui/search that the
default Mirage theme produces upon search. (I am sure I am talkin like an
absolute noob)

[Dspace-tech] [SPAM] Re: Sample Manakin Theme

Hi,

I bet this is really old by now but I wanted to use this theme and I
actually installed it, by setting the correct configs in xmlui.xconf but my
search did not work. I am very new to this and I have no idea how to fix
this, and I have been lookin all over for the solution. I noticed you said
that you removed search, could you please give me a clue as to how to put it
back or maybe a hint on how to further customize the theme? (in terms of how
to move stuff around)..I hope that is not very general though.

Thanks

Thanks for the links above, and the advice, could you possibly have a
documentation of the customizations that went into your repository because
they clearly span more than just showing mimetype images next to items. It
would be a great to managing Mirage. Thank you.

Just incase there are some noobs like me out there who land on this thread,
I'll explain how I made this work.
I copied Dr. Andrea's item-view.xsl template (see above) into my own
item-view.xsl
/([DSpace]\webapps\xmlui\themes\MyMirage\lib\xsl\aspect\artifactbrowser\item-view.xsl)/
Needless to say, I also copied the necessary pngs to their respective
folders.
I also did not have to rebuild DSpace and I find it somewhat confusing but
at least it worked
