Re: [Dspace-tech] Zotero Embedded RDF issues with some DSpace instance
Hi all, I have included the zotero dev list in this thread so that we can get some help from the main expert ;-) Dear Zotero Developers, we have a strange behaviour with some DSpace instance that include RDF bibliography info in the XHTML Head section. You can find a clean instance of the 1.5.2 DSpace with the RDF info at http://dspace-testhaton.cilea.it/jspui/handle/123456789/60 some other pretty default installations of DSpace are available here http://researchspace.auckland.ac.nz/handle/2292/3065 http://www.archenvimat.pz.cnr.it/handle/10122/365 In these last instances the import feature of Zotero works perfectly using the embedded RDF, in the first one instead it seems that Zotero doesn't see the RDF info and the standard import of the Web Page fails without notice. Thanks in advance for your help, Andrea PS: another strange behavior is about the list of items, where the single item import works the item list are not importable in Zotero where instead it doesn't work the import option is available, see http://researchspace.auckland.ac.nz/browse?type=title (NO massive import feature available) http://dspace-testhaton.cilea.it/jspui/browse?type=title (massive import feature available) Jochen Lienhard ha scritto: > Hi, > > very strange effect. > If I copy the part in a plain html file, Zotero likes it, but not > when it come from DSpace. > Any ideas? > > Greetings > > Jochen > > Jochen Lienhard schrieb: > >> Hi, >> >> we have the same problem too. >> I only found http://researchspace.auckland.ac.nz/handle/2292/3065 >> so it seems that they have solved this problem, but I did not get an >> answer until now. >> >> Greetings >> >> Jochen >> >> Andrea Bollini schrieb: >> >> >>> Hi all, >>> we have some issues with the Zotero function save Embedded RDF >>> This function show a "celestial page icon" near the URL bar >>> http://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library#automatically_capture_bibliographic_information_from_the_web >>> for most of the update dspace instances (i.e. where the xhead crosswalk >>> is active), in some case the icon is white and the tooltip say: Save in >>> Zotero (DSpace) >>> see for example: >>> http://dspace-testhaton.cilea.it/jspui/handle/123456789/60 >>> >>> In these cases, after clicking, we get the waiting cursor and nothing >>> happens (some testers has also reported an "unknow error message" but I >>> not able to reproduce). >>> Anyone has seen this already? any idea? >>> Thanks, >>> Andrea >>> >>> >>> >>> >> >> > > > -- Dott. Re: [Dspace-tech] How to set URI to return hostname in DSpace 1.5.2
You need to change the following properties: webui.feed.localresolve = true handle.canonical.prefix = ${dspace.url}/handle/ Please note that the last one will change the dc.identifier.uri that will be assigned to the new items, you will need to modify manually the already archived items. [Dspace-tech] 1.5.2 release postponed
Dear community, we have discovered several critical bugs that need to be addressed before releasing version 1.5.2. Graham Triggs has already provided a patch that has been applied in the SVN. Due to the short timeframe that we have had to review it, we have decided to delay the 1.5.2release for about a week. The new release should be the 14th April. In addition, we plan to release a 1.5.2 rc as soon as possible to allow anybody to test the latest changes. The RC release could be tonight or as soon as the i18n modules (dspace-api-lang and dspace-xmlui-lang) are harvested by the maven central repository. Andrea -- Dott. Re: [Dspace-tech] Adding some fileds into submission form
Hi Islam, when ask for help to the dspace-lists don't forget to include the relevant part of the java stack trace. The Internal server error, is a generic message that DSpace show up to the end-user when something go wrong, you can find the cause (java stack trace) in the log file [dspace-installdir]/log/dspace.log Anyway, as I can know from your description, it seems that you have added an entry in a qualdrop_value... as the selection of the dropdown will be used as qualifier for the dc.identifier you need to add the new metadata in the "Metadata registry" Hope this help, Andrea Islam Ahmad ha scritto: > > Dear All, > I want to add some fileds into submission form. Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.5.2 Release Coordinator and Issue Tracking.
Dear DSpace users & developers, the 1.5.2 release is close, the central event is the Testhaton day: March 25, 2009. All the work should really be done before the testhaton day, only marginal bugs or bugs discovered during the testhaton itself should be fixed after this event. I hearthly invite all you to get involved in this process, please check the planning on the JIRA system (http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS) and feel free to add your comments, post new bugs, patches or improvement requests. For instance, we need your opinion about this topic: http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-89 DSpace is an open source project, your opinion must drive our roadmap! Finally, I'm happy to announce that my company, CILEA, will provide a test instance for the testhaton and a member of our customer support staff will be involved in testing. But I would be more confortable if another additional instance is available, to insure that during the testhaton one instance will always be available even when the other is down for configuration change or patch check. Please let me know who is able to provide such instance. Next week, I will write you a reminder about the testhaton. A wiki page will be available with info about the URL and configuration of test instances and all the instructions needed to get involved. Don't miss this opportunity! See you on the #dspace IRC channel http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/DSpaceResources#Chat_Room or the mailing list to drive together the 1.5.2 release. Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-devel] permissions to modify permissions
Hi Con, a more decentralized management of auth in DSpace is a really common need... my old patch "[ 1373613 ] Authorization system: delegate admins" (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1373613&group_id=19984&atid=319984) is about this topic. It allows collection and community admin to change permission on owned items. The patch was write for 1.3.2 but I know that others use it also with 1.4.x with only few changes. I have plan to work on it for future integration but at the moment I have not enough time... (I hope to be more active in the comunity from september/october). Anyway if you or some others can work on the patch for update it or use it as start point I will very happy to help as I can. Re: [Dspace-tech] Differences between the data model and the trunk
Mark, I have understanding you opinion but I'm not really sure that the owning collection is a relationship in the actual model or that we need a similar relationship in future development. At the moment we need owning collection only for keep simple some presentation (display style, bread crumbs) & authorization choice, looking forward I think that all collections where the item is mapped really own the item, the item mapper feature should check not only for ADD permission on the target collection but also for ADMIN permission on the item self. Presentation issue should be resolved in their domain: bread crumbs should show the path used by the user for get the item, display should be based only on the item metadata & so. I propose to rename OwningCollection in SubmittedCollection to keep live this info (as for submitter) also after that the inProgressSubmission became an Archived Item. With this approach SubmittedCollection has to be considerate an item attribute and not a relationship... (the SubmittedCollection could be also not an own of the item after some time) Andrea Mark Diggory ha scritto: > On Nov 20, 2007, at 3:55 AM, Andrea Bollini wrote: > > >> Larry Stone ha scritto: >> >>>> Collection * - * Item >>>> >>>> >>> It's worth noting that while an Item may be a member of multiple >>> Collections, it still refers to only one of them as its "owner"; >>> it is >>> returned by getOwningCollection(). >>> >> true but IMHO this is not really needed... >> > > Well, what I've suggested in my previous email is not wether it is > needed or not, but where it should correctly reside in relational > terms, "owner" is a relationship, not an attribute of Item and > Collection, thus the more appropriate location would be in the > container or relationship tables. [Dspace-tech] Support for nested metadata & authority files
Hi all, at CILEA we are starting to think about "a light" support for nested metadata in dspace 1.5 (waiting for 2.0) and authority files. About nested metadata we have two different ideas: 1) use the place column in metadatavalue to keep a sync from different metadata i.e. to manage author affiliation we have contributor.author = SurnameX, NameX -> place 1 contributor.author = SurnameY, NameY -> place 2 contributor.affiliation = AffiliationZ -> place 1 contributor.affiliation = AffiliationW -> place 2 so using place 1 we can say SurnameX, NameX works for AffiliationZ at the time of item submission... with this approach we can use 1 level of nesting but only if nested values are not repeatable (1 affiliation for author) 2) save in the metadata value a structured xml like: this approach is more flexible because with it we can use more then 1 nested level also with repeatable value... at DSUG Rome I have talked fastly with @mire developer (should be read the list) and I think that they are using this approach, I am right? what kind of problems may arise? do you think that is a sharable solution? The problems that we see are: - browse system: solvable implementing BrowseOrderDelegate - search system: partially solvable implementing a custom Analyzer - display: in jspui we need to rewrite heavy itemtag (with manakin, do you know if we can use directly the nested xml in DIM?) - oai-pmh: solvable implementing new Crosswalk - submission: we don't need to implement anything because data are loaded from an external system (see also the authority file belove) what do you think about? what is in your opinion the simplest solution shareable within the community and to keep forward to new versions? About authority files we think to move in this way: - use an interface IControlledValue with getStoredValue(); getUID(); getNote() - html text for help with ambiguous choices (like namesake & so) - all returning String - use an interface IAuthorityFilesService with List getControlledValuesBy(String query); IControlledValue getControlledValueByUID(String uid); - input-forms should allow to select different authority providers for different metadata - the name of the provider specified in input-form could be used to select the right class implementation of IAuthorityFilesService as NamedPlugin - in the metadata we want save StoredValue Clearly, we have to take care of the same problems of the previous point 2 about nested metadata (browsing, search, display, oai-pmh) Best, Andrea -- Dott. PS:the concept of owning collection is used also in workflow and submission system but there is a main difference: the data are stored in inProgressSubmission object not in the item object. Also in this case I hope that we can introduce a more modular way to select workflow process and submission process then simply use the "owning collection". Andrea > -- Larry > -- Dott. Re: [Dspace-tech] Differences between the data model and the trunk
The mismatch is very old... I think that the API is the most right source of info, I assume that all of us are happy with many-to-many associations for communities (also with themselves), collections & items. I'm not sure if we want keep a many-to-many for item-bundle-bitstream. In my opinion these are only one-to-many and we should change the API (and db) in this way. I know that the Jim work about versioning uses the many-to-many association for item & bundle to share some of them between different versions, I hope that we can change this to share only the physical location of the bitstreams. In this way should be more simple to keep different versions that change only metadata of a bitstream. It's not really different then run from the same machine you need only to keep a copy of part of dspace-installation (lib, bin, handle-server and config dir). Could we have an EXISTENCE permission on an object without READ permission? Could we have a READ permission on an object without EXISTENCE? I think that the answer is NO for both the questions. IMHO the current permissions are sufficient enough. There is only one problem about bitstreams READ definition. In fact, while for communities, collections, item and bundle READ means the possibility of metadata access (therefore knowing about the object existence), the READ permission for bitstream allows both medatata (name, size, format, etc.) and content access (InputStream). Therefore I think that it would be good to make this behaviour uniform also hooking-up the READ permission to the InputStream, and this would also make sense for WRITE permission. > >From a design standpoint, I think authz needs an overhaul as I've > mentioned many times before; I think introducing the notion of 'know > of an objects existence' distinct from the existing READ is the right > way to go about this rather than overloading READ. > > It makes sense to me to have queries evaluated using a particular > Context could we use different indexes? You, Graham or some others, I don't remember, have already talk about "different context" for DB, Authorization and so. I'm think that we could have a "simple" context and an "authorized context" that wrap it. Authorized context could intercept (this is where I see an use of AOP in dspace) call to methods that require authorization check and add it to them. (I think that this should result in only 1 + 1 queries) > The Harvest class (I.E. Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-devel] Hide Community or Collection from the Communities and Collections page
Hi Lucas, thanks for you clear wiki page, it should be useful for someone others. Please note that your "patch" is *only* on user interface (JSPUI) so the communities and the collections that you hide are visible on oai-phm response (if you think you can add this info in "Things to do"). A more complete solution needs to alter the retrieval API (getCollections(), getItems(), getCommunities and so...) I'm currently exploring this scenario. Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-devel] Hide Community or Collection from the Communities and Collections page
mmm... I'm really wrong I'm sorry but I should read more closely your wiki page ;-) You have modified some part of retrieval API so your patch is not only for JSPUI, as you have noted it doesn't works on oai-pmh because there are others methods (as findAll() used by oai-pmh) for retrieval collection & communities. Note that if you hide some collections in findAll() you can have problem in oai-pmh response because your record could have a reference to a set (=collection) not displayed in ListSets (it use findAll). If you hide collection in Item.getCollection() this will result in strange behavior when you display item mapped from an hidden collection to a not hidden collection... (so the problem has not a really simple solution "community wide"). Finally, you have missed another end-user point where he can see your hidden collection&communities: advanced-search, try a first search with no result or wrong input and in the dropdown menu its appears best, Andrea Andrea Bollini ha scritto: > Hi Lucas, > thanks for you clear wiki page, it should be useful for someone others. > Please note that your "patch" is *only* on user interface (JSPUI) so the > communities and the collections that you hide are visible on oai-phm > response (if you think you can add this info in "Things to do"). > A more complete solution needs to alter the retrieval API > (getCollections(), getItems(), getCommunities and so...) Re: [Dspace-tech] Multiple handle servers
Yes, we have successful used this approach. You can also edit the /bin/make-handle-config changing the lines (66-67): echo "" >>$tempfile # Port to listen to (default=2641) echo "" >>$tempfile # Port for HTTP i/f to listen to (default=8000) in echo "2642" >>$tempfile # Port to listen to (default=2641) echo "8001" >>$tempfile # Port for HTTP i/f to listen to (default=8000) so you can use this script for make the handle configuration Of course the port 2642 and 8001 are only a proposal and you can modify if needed (for example if you are other service on server bind on the same port) Andrea TAYLOR Robin ha scritto: > I wonder if anyone can save me some time with a wee query about handle > servers. Re: [Dspace-tech] inser/delete into the metadatavalue table
Hi Jose, you can of course add metadata with a java script using DSpace API without any problems. If you want add metadata from sql script you need only to reset the metadata sequence at the end of your script. SELECT setval('metadatavalue_seq', max(metadata_value_id)) FROM metadatavalue; SELECT setval('dcvalue_seq', max(dc_value_id)) FROM dcvalue; Of course you need also to run index-all at the end. Best wishes, Andrea PS: deleting metadata doesn't require sequence update Jose Blanco ha scritto: > > I sent this question out a few days ago, and did not hear anything. > If some one has some info on it, could you let me know. > > > > Thanks! > > > > > > *From:* [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] *On Behalf Of *Jose > Blanco > *Sent:* Monday, April 02, 2007 12:53 PM > *To:* dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net > *Subject:* [Dspace-tech] inser/delete into the metadatavalue table > > > > I have a big chunk of items I would like to add and delete metadata > to. Re: [Dspace-tech] Authorization system: delegate admins patch
Well I'm putting myself at work... I have some questions about the authorization system that I would like to share with the community: 1) in many points of the "DSpace core" code there are setIgnoreAuthorization(true-false) blocks. I don't like them, many of them are related to the creation of "stub" newly objects that are not yet related to other ones. If we introduce a "stub" flag in DSpaceObject abstract class, we can check for autorization only when this flag is set to false. Of course, the default of the flag will be false and it will be set to true only in create method where the check for authorization is responsibility of the container (community, collection, item, bundle and so...). 2) the bug fix 1480496 (Cannot turn off "ignore authorization" flag!) has shown that the authorization method setIgnoreAuthorization() is not friendly. In fact if we have two blocks that require authorization check to false and these blocks are nested, as in the following example: ...[some java code here]... setIgnoreAuthorization(true) // start of first block ---my first block without authorization check ---my first block without authorization check ---my first block without authorization check --setIgnoreAuthorization(true) // start of second block --my second block without authorization check --my second block without authorization check --my second block without authorization check --setIgnoreAuthorization(false) // end of second block ---other code in first block setIgnoreAuthorization(false) // end of first block ... the "other code in first block" is executed with authorization check and does not work. It will be really too easy to come up with this situation (actually possible for my patch automapper) with the new code called by the Event System, so it should be fixed. A simple solution is to store the previous state of authorization check before changing it, and to restore it at the end of the "special" block. I can post a patch for this shortly, but I would like to know in advance if someone sees any problems with the following: 1) add two methods: TurnOffAuthorizationSystem / RestoreAuthorizationSystem, with some code that can also be useful when the debug is on to see "malformed" (XML-like) authorization blocks (thanks to James Rutherford for some useful suggestions); 2) set the setIgnoreAuthoritation methods to deprecated. Hi, I have insert in cc the dspace-tech mailing list where you can found more help about this and similar topics. I'm starting in a couple of days a review of my patch for make it compatible with the next 1.5, I know that Tim (also in cc) use it in his istitutional repository and it is a 1.4.x version but there are not a "public package" available for this version... Tim can you provide it? if not don't worry ;-), I can make it for the end of march. Re: [Dspace-tech] Two items pointing to the same bitstream
Hi, some notes about this topic ;-) I had this need in a project when we wanted to give an author the possibility to attach a file after the item was published... First I created a special collection where the submission form only consists of file uploading. After license acceptance and workflow completed, the item with only bitstream(s) is deleted and the bitstream moved to the original item. If the original item had no bitstreams it's ok, but if the original item already had at least one bitstream the handle servlet can't retrieve the correct bitstream because the sequence_id number is wrong (there are two bitstreams with sequence_id = 1 and so on). I've solved with a preliminary check and a sequence_id sanitize (myMergeBitstream.setSequenceId(myMergeBitstream.getSequenceId()+maxSequenceIdInOriginalItem)) Best, Andrea Bollini Larry Stone ha scritto: I'm wondering if I could assign the same bitstream to various items. It is theoretically possible in the data model -- a Bitstream object can belong to more than one Bundle (and the Bundle is in turn part of an Item). The code looks like it should even support that, i.e. if you delete one of the Items, the shared Bitstream wouldn't be deleted so long as another Item includes it. In practice, I don't know of any way to "map" a Bitstream into another Item. The way to do that, in Java, is for the recipient Item to take its "ORIGINAL" bundle and call the addBitstream(bitstream) method on the target bitstream that it found in another Item. You'd have to extend the UI to do this but it ought to be possible in JSPs. -- Larry - Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
