Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.10, the mouse cursor graphic gets corrupted under certain
occasions. It then looks flipped, sheared or shows fragments of a
  previous cursor.

  * when switching the cursor them forth and back in Gnome Tweak Tool
  * when drag&dropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a drag&drop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-07-28 Thread Michał Sawicz
Because when playing music, you can't change ringtone volume (and they
*are*, even today, different), they are two very separate things IMO.

As I described, the volume slider as we have it today, should not really
be a volume slider at all, but rather a profile-change-slider, including
"silent", "quiet" and a handful of volumes for the ringtone. The
hardware buttons should totally follow the currently active sound,
falling back to ringtone volume if nothing's playing.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1005459] Re: Polish date translation

2015-07-28 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
On 28.07.2015 18:33, GTriderXC wrote:
> I'll try to change the genitive asap.

What I tried to say was: You can't! (at least not without making a
significant change to indicator-datetime, which would affect all
languages and require separate translations for that string)

There is only one month name field in the locale definition files, and
you can't distinguish between a standalone month name and a month name
in a date string context.

Did you consider my abbreviation suggestion?

> If You take a Polish paper calender, the days are all written with
> capital letters.

Okay. Are you suggesting that weekday and month names are stated with
first uppercase letters in the Polish locale, then, as is the case in
e.g. Enlish and German? Please note that such a change would be
effective globally whenever weekday and month names are fetched from the
locale.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1005459] Re: Polish date translation

2015-07-28 Thread GTriderXC
I use Mate, not Unity so I don't see the problem but it is definitely
smaller than in the photo. have You ever seen a paper calendar? So
that's the lower case: invalid. I can only agree to the genitive. Upper
case as: Sobota, ..2015 In such cases "Sobota" is treated as the
first word of a sentence though there is no colon at the end. I do not
know if there were some changes in the Polish language but as I learned
at school I can only agree to the genitive.

More translation rules can be found in the links on our page:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-pl

I'll try to change the genitive asap.

Ps.

If You take a Polish paper calender, the days are all written with
capital letters. It always used to be this way. Did I miss anything? I
live in Germany now so I can be not fully up to date:-)

Bug description:
To reproduce, install the app "Maroon in trouble" from the app store
and play it a little with having sound enabled. Press the volume down
hardware button on the phone. It will temporarily decrease the volume.
However, whenever a new item comes into the scene, it will be on 100%
  volume again.

Setting the system volume to 0 should keep everything at 0.

Please note that this app does *not* have any code to set the volume! Also
this app is one of the upstream Qt QML example demo apps, so this is really how
QML apps are supposed to work (in other words, it is not a badly implemented
app, but really an issue in the system)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1396986] Re: System Settings > Sound > Ringer volume - only changes ringer volume when no other sounds playing

2015-07-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
That the typical alert is "far too brief a tone to control" its volume
does not necessarily mean that it "should have a permanent control in
the panel". That problem could be fixed by following the spec: the
volume controls should control alert volume whenever none of an alarm,
phone call, or media are playing -- that is, most of the time.
 Anyway, that seems to be
separate from the two bugs in the bug description.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-07-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
There doesn't seem to be a problem described at all here, and the
proposal is perplexing.

Why should the indicator slider change only the ringtone volume? That
would mean if you were playing music, the indicator slider would not
change the volume of the music, which would be ... surprising. And it
would mean the indicator slider and the volume buttons controlled
different things, which would also be surprising. Unless you think the
volume buttons should do the same, and control only the ringtone -- but
in that case there would be no way at all of changing music that was
playing in the background, which would be even worse.

Multiple sliders in the indicator is bug 1437598.

Bug description:
Nux has support in conditional compilation for running without the
  GLib event loop.

This bug is about getting support for that dropped. Considering that
the GLib event loop is supported on all platforms that Nux supports,
there isn't much of a reason for running without it.

The main reasons it should be removed are :
  1. Its not used by anybody
  2. Maintenance burden - every time you want to use some new event source, you
have to provide support on both
  3. Its completely broken from a code inspection POV:

-> It uses while (true) and busy-waits for new events (most of the time)
-> Sometimes the event retrieval sources block, sometimes they don't.
-> The check-for-events and dispatch-event code is in the same function for
every source, which means that if one source blocks (eg XLib), and the other
has pending events (Geis) then there's a potential deadlock until the first one
unblocks
-> There's support for both Geis and XLib in the non-glib event loop, except
that the Geis portion depends on compiling with GLib in order to actually
retrieve events, rendering it non-functional in this mode.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1005459] Re: Polish date translation

2015-07-28 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Please note that both month and weekday names are fetched from the
Polish locale.

As regards the uppercase first letter, I can't reproduce that detail.
When switching to a Polish locale, weekday and month names are displayed
with only lowercase letters (as in the locale).

The composition of the long date string can be modified via the
Launchpad translation interface:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/wily/+source/indicator-
datetime/+pots/indicator-datetime/pl/11/+translate

A Polish solution to this issue might be to use abbreviated names
instead, i.e. 'translate' the string "%A, %e %B %Y" to "%a, %e %b %Y".
It would expand to e.g.:

$ LC_TIME=pl_PL.UTF-8 date +"%a, %e %b %Y"
wto, 28 lip 2015

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-07-28 Thread Pat McGowan
Bug #1396986 is described in the opposite sense but is really the same
issue. As I posted there the design calls for the heading on the slider
to change based on mode. I believe in settings we should show the
current setting for all four independent modes - alarm, alert,
multimedia and phone, while the indicator panel can show the current
mode as described in the spec.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-07-28 Thread Michał Sawicz
Totally, as I wrote in the other bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1291458/comments/2
MeeGo had this solved really well.

Just one thing I'm not sure how it worked there - app volume. What
Michael's proposing is that we only really have 'ringtone' + 'other'
volumes (I'd add 'alarms' to that, changed in the clock app) - I'm just
not 100% sure we should put music, video and general app sounds in the
same bag, but that's what the design exercise should define I think.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478902] [NEW] Pressing a HW key like backspace doesn't autorepeat

2015-07-28 Thread Lukáš Tinkl
Public bug reported:

When using unity8 on the desktop with a hardware keyboard, autorepeat
doesn't work. For example, keeping the backspace key pressed doesn't
gradually erase all the characters, the caret doesn't move after the
first keypress. This works correctly with an onscreen keyboard.

** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: indicator-sound (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-ui-toolkit
(Ubuntu)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

I think there should be two sliders in the indicator. One for ringtone
volume, one for all multimedia sound.

On the phone, the volume indicator follows the current active stream

The indicator icon and slider should only ever follow the ringtone
volume. I'm not sure whether volume buttons should work for alarms.

This is somewhat related to bug #1291458.

Drop support for running without GLib event loop

Status in Nux:
  In Progress
Status in nux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
