[Dx4win] Spot announcements minor BUG
I also noticed a similar problem. I am interested in mode countries but = not band countries. When I set DX Alerts to "New Award Mode" I get announcements of new bands as well as new modes. Setting DX Alerts to = "New Country" gets me the desired new mode and new country alerts. It looks = like something is a notch off. 73, Dave, W0VX -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] = On Behalf Of Mel Martin (VE2DC) Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 8:12 PM To: 'Mel Martin'; 'Tom Branch'; 'Ron Tivey'; Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Cc: 'Paul van der Eijk' Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Spot announcements minor BUG I confirmed that if I set DX Alerts to "none" I still get new country announcements... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mel Martin Sent: January 30, 2003 9:13 AM To: Tom Branch; Ron Tivey; Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Spot announcements There might be something amiss... [Dx4win] Version 6.01 and Windows XP
Hello All, Installed 6.01 on a computer with XP operating system. Few of observations. I like the Alt+S save feature in Version 5.03, and I believe that it should be available in version 6.01, but when I enter a contact in 6.01, and then use the Alt+S keystrokes, DX4WIN closes. The whole program closes, not just my log file. I loaded version 6.01 onto a computer running Windows ME, and I can use the Alt+S feature just fine. Anyone else running 6.01 on XP and having the same problem? Also, I have set the map options to "Show Spot Country", but I'm not seeing the spot countries prefix or the country being highlighted on the map as spots roll by on the cluster. Again, just me, or is there a problem? Lastly, and I noticed this on both ME and XP, when I merged my .cty files, there were quite a few contacts that had to be cleaned up to get my country counts correct to what I had in version 5.03. FO prefixes, 3X0C/LU, VK9's, some of my K5K contacts, some of my K1B contacts, some FR stuff, VP6DI contacts, etc., had to be cleaned up. Might not be a bad idea to check up on contacts with multi country prefixes. 73 All Don
[Dx4win] FW: DX Doubler Modification
Dave has asked me to post this. Roger, W1EM _ Hi Roger. I noticed your post about your successful installation of the "Random key down" mod to the DX Doubler. Nice work. I'm not subscribed to the list, but you may want to post a copy of this e-mail, if you see fit. That modification is now installed in our factory on all units currently shipping, so nothing needs to be done if the DXD was purchased within about the last six months. A visual inspection of the circuit board will quickly reveal whether your DXD has the mod in it. 73 - Dave N3RD Top Ten Devices

[Dx4win] Problem with SO2R and DX4WIN 6.01
Well I have fixed my problem with the use of SO2R and DX4WIN 6.01. I've just finished installing a mod to the DX Doubler SO2R box listed on Top Ten Devices Web Page. They make the DX Doubler. The mod is called "Fix for Randomly Generated CW Key Down or PTT Active State Upon Computer Bootup". They have you cut out two transistors, bevel the emitter holes on the circuit board with a drill to unground these pads, reinstall 2 transistors and reroute the two emitters to pin one of the parallel port connector. It took me about 1/2 hour. SO2R is now working perfectly with DX4WIN 6.01 and it's great. I hope this may help someone who might have the same problem. 73, Roger, W1EM
[Dx4win] Ver 6.01 problems
Paul, The Website callsign and QSL manager lookup do not work quite correctly. In the Setup Parameter, Ext Data section you can enter 2 URL strings. The first URL string is for the callsign lookup and the second URL id for the QSL manager lookup. When you are in the QSO window and hit F3 you bring up the Callsign/Manager Lookup window. This window has 4 fields, the text area, the callsign, the grid, and the QSL manager. I would expect that hitting enter when the cursor was in the callsign field would bring up a browser and execute the first URL string and likewise hitting enter when the cursor was in the QSL manager field would bring up a browser and execute the second URL string. However it does NOT work this way. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the text field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the callsign field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the grid field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the QSL manager field does nothing. The first URL string never is able to be executed. I have found this to be true on both Windows ME and 2000 Profesdsional machines. On previous versions of DX4Win when you were in the SSB mode the signal report fields advanced automatically to the next fielf after entering 2 characters. On ver 6.01 the field advances after entering 3 digits. Upon trying to enter the QSO you get an error message. I hadn't noticed this before as a beta tester (I guess all 59 reports) but today I was entering a bunch of mobile contacts. This is really not a problem but just a difference which may be accidental and indicitive of some other undiscovered problem. 73, Larry, W0QE
[Dx4win] Upgrade Information from the new Version 6.01 Users Guide [from the DX4W601/docs folder]
Upgrading from previous versions There are only a few things the user must do in order to fully upgrade = to the current version, from a previous version of DX4WIN. If the contest logging program CT is used, during installation when the = prompt labeled 'CT binary conversion' appears, choose 'Yes'. This will = cause DX4WIN to search out the CT conversion utility, b2r9.exe and = 'remember' its' location. This location of this conversion utility is = needed when .bin files from CT are imported anytime in the future. The 'old' country file in the previous version of the program must be = merged with the 'new' country file installed with this version. This = will allow any 'callsign exceptions' and QSL managers added to the = previous version, to be added to the new country database, creating a = 'super-set' combination of the two. If this is not done and the = 'callsign exceptions' are not merged, the country counts and award = totals may be off. The procedure for this is as follows: First, the 'User level' must be set to at least 'Advanced' (File | = Preferences | Personal.) Close any open log file (File | Close.) Open the 'Country Editor' window (File | Databases | Country.) Go to 'File | Merge other country file'. Set the path to the old country = file. This will typically be in the '.\dx4win32\save' or '.\dx4win\save' = or '.\dx4w405\save', etc. directory. The actual directory name will = depend upon which version was previously used. Be sure not to locate the = new country file located in the '.\dx4w60x\save' directory by mistake. = The sought after file is named dx4win.cty. Both the new and the old have = the same name, although located in different places. Click the 'Open' button. There should be a listing of all the things = that were merged. The user will be prompted for each item merged; = callsign exceptions, IOTA, QSL managers and QSL manager addresses. Choose 'File | Save changes and exit' Using Windows Explorer, copy all logs over to the new dx4win 'save' = directory. Log files have the extension of .dxl. In addition to the log files, the user may copy the following files to = the new 'save' directory, if so desired. Dx4win.rep - Contains logbook report formats. Dx4win.tcp - Contains TCP/IP addresses for connecting to the Internet = for getting DX spotting information. Dx4win.put - Contains the packet spot history. Dx4win.cty - We highly recommend that the user perform a merge on the = country database as described above. It is possible however, to copy the = country database from a previous version if extensive changes were made. If none of these files have been changed by adding, editing or deleting = their contents, the default files installed with the latest version = would be the same, or better, and should be used. --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- multipart/alternative text/plain (text body -- kept) text/html The reason this message is shown is because the post was in HTML or had an attachment. [Dx4win] Upgrade info?
Anyone have simple, step-by-step instructions for upgrading to 6.01? Just unzip it and it does the rest? What about your countries (e.g. K1B,), preferences, etc? Paul sent me the new license file (yourcall.key) and said to install it in the directory where the dx4win.exe file is kept. Is this where the existing 5.03 exe file is and the new program finds it or put it where the new 6.01 exe file will end up? I don't remember having to (knowingly) use a *.key file when I bought/installed 5.03. I think it just asked me to type in the key I received via e-mail. Sorry for the questions, but from the upgrade snippets I've been reading on the reflector, it really doesn't seem intuitively obvious. I would rather do it right the first time... ;-) Again, any simple, complete step by step for the entire process? Thanks in advance, 73/Carter/K8VT

[Dx4win] Direct QSL printing.
Has anyone been able to get the feature which allows you to print = directly onto the card and not using labels working?=20 Version 502 printed perfectly, version 503 switched from landscape = Portrait to after the first QSL. This version 601 switches from portrait = to landscape after the first card. Version 407 to 502 didn't switch at = all. I can solve the problem by creating a fictitious Log entry - AA1AA = and when I print 10 - 20 or 30 upwards etc, it will print the first QSL = AA1AA off the card and then the program will switch the mode from = portrait to landscape for all the subsequent QSLs. There are two thoughts here 1. I shouldn't have to do this with DX4Win and=20 2. Poor ole AA1AA will never ever get a QSL because his card will always = come out of the printer BLANK! Version 502 printed perfectly, version 503 switched from landscape Portrait to after the first QSL. This version 601 switches from portrait to landscape after the first card. Version 407 to 502 didn't switch at all. I can solve the problem by creating a fictitious Log entry - AA1AA and when I print 10 - 20 or 30 upwards etc, it will print the first QSL AA1AA off the card and then the program will switch the mode from portrait to landscape for all the subsequent QSLs.
[Dx4win] 6.1 and PSK
1. I use a Rigblaster in line with my computer to key PSK-31. This has always been done through COM 4. 2. In the old DX4WIN if you clicked on Settings|TX there was a spot to specify the COM port for PSK-31 transmitting. 3. While the TX flag is in the new version it does not give me the ability to specify what COM port it is to use. Therefore, I am unable to key the transmitter in the PSK mode. The receive is fine and a double check with the old DX4WIN showed no problems with receive. or transmit . 4. Does anybody have the answer for my problem. 5. In summary my problem is that I need to tell DX4WIN that I am using COM 4 to key the RigBlaster so the signal is passed to the mike input of the transceiver. Help please. Rod WC7N [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Dx4win] UPGRADE BACKLOG
Hello everyone, PLEASE UNDERSTAND. I am getting LOTS of upgrade orders, and they have been coming in much faster than I can get them out.I am completing then in the same order I received them. [Dx4win] SO2R Problem with DX4WIN
Bob, You're right about DX4WIN 6.01 following the standard. I looked at the documentation again and read it correctly this time.Thanks. I still have a problem. SO2R seems to working correctly. Radio control is switched at the appropriate times. The correct frequencies and modes are sent to the software, etc, but I still get a constant sidetone on the selected radio no matter what I do, as long as two radios are defined. In the File|Preferences|Control section my only options are LPT1 for CW Keyer Interface and LPT1 for Radio 1/2 signal. My control box is connected to LPT1 and works fine with other software. I'd like to find out if anyone else has used 6.01 with a DX Doubler. Thanks again, Roger, W1EM
[Dx4win] RE MAP GRIDLINES
In the previous version of dx4win 5.03 we were able to set gridlines in front (or not) on the world map, in the new version this option is not longer present. This affects of course the way the world map looks, if possible please bring the option to set gridlines back. Or is there another way to set the gridlines to the desired setting? Greetings ON7DG Gino

There might be something amiss... During beta testing... I had noticed that with DX Alerts set to "None" I was still getting new country announcements... I haven't re-read the Help file... so I might have something wrong in setup... I'll take a look this evening... - Original Message - From: "Tom Branch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Ron Tivey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 07:45 Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Spot announcements > Ron, > > I had problem,s with FO0AOI. [Dx4win] RE MAP GRIDLINES
Gino, 6.0.1 does allow you to set Maidenhead Grid squares on the map -- that is what you're talking about, right? It's under the World Map window "Options"->"Maidenhead Grid". -- Darrell ON7DG Pandora wrote: > In the previous version of dx4win 5.03 we were able to set gridlines in > front (or not) on the world map, in the new version this option is not > longer present. > This affects of course the way the world map looks, if possible please bring > the option to set gridlines back. > Or is there another way to set the gridlines to the desired setting? > > > Greetings ON7DG Gino > > > ___ > Dx4win mailing list > Dx4win@mailman.qth.net > http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

[Dx4win] dx4win 6.1/Go-Win
Gosh though everything was working FB until I tried to locate the .dll for GOWIN. When I double click on the box I can find several .dll files but not one for GOWIN. Is the gowin.dll file in DX4WIN folder or is it supposed to be in the GOLIST folder ? Does ANYBODY know where gowin.dll is located ? Rod WC7N [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Dx4win] Spot announcements
Hello to All, I upgraded to 6.01 this morning and moved all the needed files but have noticed that I have spot announcement set for "New Country" but the program is announcing "New Mode" and "New Band". I have looked at the preferences and haven't figured it out. BTW: All my stats/numbers were OK. Thanks, Ron, N4GFO

Ron, I had problem,s with FO0AOI. It always maps to FO/M when the QSL Card clearly shows them on FO on a certain date. It's probably something in my country file that I need to go edit but have no bothered. I just tried the "new country" setting and it works fine here. Under Packet 1, do you have the "DX Alert" set to "New Country"? The new INI structure was different, perhaps it did not merge as intended. 73 de Tom, K4NR - Original Message - From: "Ron Tivey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 5:55 AM Subject: [Dx4win] Spot announcements > Hello to All, > > I upgraded to 6.01 this morning and moved all the needed files but have > noticed that I have spot announcement set for "New Country" but the > program is announcing "New Mode" and "New Band". [Dx4win] V6.01 - adjustable map colors for land
There are a few outstanding minor bugs with the map... That's one of them... There are a few calculation problems with the Albers Conic... That's why it's greyed... And you know about the county search... And worst of all... Toronto is shown as the Capital of Canada... Much to the dismay of people from Ottawa (the actual capital)... Nothing worth holding up the release of ver 6. I can't speak for Paul, but I suppose he will post the corrected binary when he has it available. I believe the map code is written by a third party... Not by Paul himself. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Richard Eckman Sent: January 29, 2003 8:02 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] V6.01 - adjustable map colors for land Has anyone been able to adjust the land color on the Map in the new version? Robert and Others, Looks indeed like a conversion problem reading old logs. Try the following: 1. In version 5.03 export your log using the dx4win4 filter 2. Close version 5, start version 6 3. Open your 'bad' log file 4. Delete all QSOs (this will preserve any selection definitions and groupnames you have in your log) 5. Import the log saved in step 1 using the dx4win4 filter Sorry for the inconvenience, Paul At 06:02 PM 1/29/03 -0500, Robert Dannals wrote: >Just upgraded to v 6.01 from 5.03. Hi Roger, To me it looks like your DEVICE can't handle correctly the output from LPT port or doesn't switch like it is intended to work. How it works, WHEN RADIO1 is SELECTED and if 1/2 signal is selected, your LPT1 PIN 14 is HIGH = + 5Volt NOW SHIFT+CTRL+F12 AND RADIO2 is SELECTED also with 1/2 signal selected, your LPT1 PIN 14 is LOW = 0 Volt Go to my web and look @ the picture I putted on a few minutes ago 73 Guy ON4AOI BAND DECODER and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/banddecoder.htm DX4WIN soft and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/dx4win.htm DX4WIN, WRITELOG, WF1B & RITTY CW & RTTY interfaces at http://www.on4aoi.be/keyer.htm ARSWIN link and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/web7.htm DXTELNET soft and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/dxt.htm MY SALESPAGE with radioamateur & computer parts http://www.on4aoi.be/sale.htm - Original Message - From: "Roger Marrotte" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, January 29, 2003 10:55 PM Subject: [Dx4win] V6.01 SO2R > I was just fooling around with the new version of DX4WIN and trying to set > it up for SO2R.
