[Dx4win] No State On Import

2006-01-15 Thread Art - W6KY
This works great, especially if you leave the :2 after
the word state. :) Interesting thing, on the import
DX4WIN also puts the Name in the 1st Notes for QSO and
the Freq and QSO # in the 2nd Notes for QSO fields.
... I just used WordPad and the 'replace' function.
Tnx Alan

Am I right to assume that there is really no way of editing the ADIF import
filter to recognize ADIF tags that it doesn't "know about" in its standard form?

It would sure be great to be able, at least, to know which ADIF tags earmark
data for which fields in the DX4WIN database, so that I can edit them in the
ADIF file if necessary. Is a systematic table of those destinations available?

Part of the confusion is that full path names *DO* work for RAC data, but
not QRZ data. If you install the RAC CDROM data to your local hard drive,
DX4WIN -will- accept its full path name.

I used to do this all the time with RAC data, but then I switched to QRZ
when I found it tended to be more timely and suddenly I had problems
referring to it on my local drive.

Thanks for your help.

I must admit I can se how it can be confusing. Basically the directory
needs to be on the root directory of the drive. The last line
C:\RAC2000 gives the clue.

The 7.01 Help file states:

CDRom Drive
The drive letter of the CDRom drive or the data directory used for the
CDROM data. Some products allow you to copy the data to your hard disk,
freeing the CDROM. Examples:
E: when your CDROM is drive E
C:\RAC2000 when you copied your data directory to your hard disk.

The 7.01 User's Guide states:

Data Directory
Enter the drive path to where the CD ROM data can be found. When
accessing
directly from a
CD ROM, only the CD ROM drive designation needs to be entered (D:\, E:\,

etc.) If the CD
ROM information database has been loaded directly onto the hard drive,
specify the complete
path to where this data can be found (C:\RAC2000, etc.)

I don't know what manual you have been using, John, but it seems to have

been more helpful to you than the above have been to me.

Just as a follow-up, for those not wanting to actually place the QRZ
'CALLBK' directory in the root of their hard drive, a shortcut placed in
the root that points to the actual 'CALLBK' directory works fine, too.

Thanks, Ernie. I haven't tried it, but it makes perfect sense that
installing the QRZ CDROM data in the root directory of a local drive
should
work.

Excellent work-around until a permanent correction can be released.

This might work for you.

I have my 'summer 2005' cd data copied to my local hard drive, C:, and
it
works. The catch is that all the CD call data is in a directory called
"callbk" (on the root of C). I copied only the contents of that
directory
from the CD to the hard drive. I didn't copy the pictures sub-directory.

In DX4WIN setup, my data source is "QRZ CDRom", data directory is just
"C:".
It seems to find it ok this way.

I could NOT get it working specifying another directory for the data on
C:
drive, other than the "callbk".

To be clear, my QRZ data is located at C:/callbk/

Hi, Jack.

As far as I can tell, there is a bug in DX4WIN 7.01 where the only way it
will recognize the QRZ CDROM is if you give it a drive letter. If you copy
the CDROM data to your local hard drive, DX4WIN will not recognize it if
you just enter the full path name in the appropriate Preferences--ExtData
field.

The only way I have been able to get DX4WIN to access the QRZ CDROM data
after it has been copied to a hard drive is when that hard drive exists on
a remote computer and then I can assign a network drive letter to it. (I
have tried to assign a drive letter to my local QRZ program directory using
the old DOS SUBST command, but DX4WIN doesn't recognize it, either.)

For example, I have my QRZ CDROM copied to the standard 'C:\Program
Files\QRZ Ham Radio' directory on my 'shack110' remote computer. I then
assign the network drive letter 'Z:' to '\\shack110\c\Program Files\QRZ Ham
Radio\' and I am able to successfully have DX4WIN on my local computer
access the disk drive-resident QRZ files on the remote computer by placing
'Z:' in the appropriate DX4WIN Preferences-ExtData field.

Perhaps someone on the reflector can explain to both of us how to get
DX4WIN to utilize QRZ CDROM data that has been copied to a local disk
directory.

Dick,

Before you import your ADIF file use a text editor to search & replace
whatever field name the state is in (maybe EXCHANGE or whatever Writelog
puts it in) to STATE. Then it will import correctly into the state
field in DX4WIN. I think you can do even do that if it is the section
instead of the state in the ADIF file and DX4WIN will convert the
section to the correct state.

For example, in the ARRL RTTY N1MM put the state in a field called
EXCHANGE1:

KS

Just search for EXCHANGE1 and replace it with STATE.

Alan N5NA
