[Dx4win] CW Announce?

2006-10-24 Thread wo2n
Hi,
With the latest versions, has the CW Announce (DX Spotting) able come thru
the stereo speakers yet?
You see I like to be able to control the volume (crank it up) so I can hear
the spots while in another room.
Thank you 73, Bernie/WO2N.>

[Dx4win] 99% CPU Usage

2006-10-24 Thread Dennis Mowers
Problem fixed.

Thanks to all who replied.

I suspected the COM or LPT ports controlling the radio or Top Ten. I
removed those from DX4WIN Preferences, but that did not help. I also
set everything to do with packet to "none", that didn't help.

Now, why did I do what is outlined below? Desperation.

I went to the device manager, and disabled all the COM, LPT, Network
adaptors, and several other things that I didn't think would stop the
computer. Then I re-enabled everything, and restarted the computer. I
had previoulsly restarted several times after trying a few things, but
this time the CPU usage dropped to 5%.

So, this is the "HOW" to fix it. The "WHY" is still a mystery.

Thanks,
Dennis-K5YA

[Dx4win] 99 % CPU Usage

2006-10-24 Thread saad mahaini

This may not be the same that you are experiencing, but I figured I will put
it out there.

I have never seen this for all the years that I ran DX4WIN till recently. I
have changed various things at the same time so that makes troubleshooting a
lot harder. However, I only see this when one of the radios (PRO3) is being
controlled. When I turn that on, everything works great for a little while
and I can control the radio as supposed to but all of the sudden the CPU
goes to 99% and the program will come to a screeching halt. The only way to
get out of this problem is usually shutting that radio control down and
things will be ok again.

Its puzzling but I have not been able to crack that nut yet. Like I said, I
used to run the same config before and never had a problem, till I made
various changes, new serial port board, new computer motherboard and
rebuild, DX4WIN upgrade, so I wonder what went wrong.

DX4WIN must be doing something to hog all the CPU resources, the
"System Idle Process" shows zero. While on my other computer running
DX4WIN, it is 94-97%.

[Dx4win] Winkey Problems

2006-10-24 Thread Paul Pescitelli
Guy,

Thanks for your assistance. However, it still does not work.
Unfortunately at this time this software does not meet my needs and
until some of the bugs get worked out I will be forced to use another
package.

Bugs:

1) There is no reason that failure to open a com port should ever
prevent a program from gracefully exiting. Using an equivalent to
force kill (CTL+ALT+DEL) to end a task is not good error handling
code.

2) To say that USB to serial converters can't be used is one thing,
but telling me to hook it up, disable the config, reboot, then
uninstall the converter...etc etc. This is not acceptable. I have
written several protocols all over serial and never encountered
anything like this.

In addition, I have not received input from anyone else in the
community, not even the author.

Guy, please do not take any of this personally and you are doing a
wonderful job at supporting something that you believe in, but
apparently it is just not for me at this time.

regards,
Paul K4UJ

It will accept 0-9 and the hex digits A-F (or a-f). It always has. You must
be doing something else wrong.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original message, but if Gary was
trying to put in an "h" into the field, that could be the issue.

Gary, the "h" just means the value is in hexidecimal, you can leave
that off what you're trying to enter.

[Dx4win] 99 % CPU Usage

2006-10-24 Thread Dennis Mowers
I am running DX4WIN on two computers, practically identical with the
same amount of memory.

One of them runs about 4-7% CPU usage with several windows open,
including WriteLog, along with DX4Win.

The other computer goes to 99% CPU usage as soon as I open DX4Win. I
don't even have to open a log file to see the problem. Packet windows
were opening, but I turned them off, and that was not the problem.

Has anyone seen this problem?

Hi Lee,
Sorry to hear that from you.
The problem I had was the one I described
in earlier mails.

Dx4win seems memories on wish COMPORT
it was installed the first time and
has problems when it is moved to another port
If you remember where it was connected the very first
time then you probably can also correct the problem.

The other possibility I just think of is that you have
The BAD update from WINDOWS XP where many things went
Wrong with port communications e.o.

This was posted a few months ago here on this reflector,
I will try to find It back in + 18000 dx4win mails I have here
