Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?
Developers ? Which developers ?... DX4Win USED to be perfect, but the so-called developers are just ignoring people who paid for the program... Not nice... 73 Paul F6EXV Le 21/11/2023 à 11:20, Christian Janssen DL1MGB a écrit : Hi all, DX4WIN is also (almost) perfect for my needs. Sure, would love to have this or that little neat feature, but these are also not available from other logging programms. And one thing I like very much with DX4WIN that developers don't feel the need to implement EVERY feature EVERY user wants to have. So it remains a compact software with no glitches or running errors or data losses. And the UI stays the same I have adopted over the years. There is nothing worse when each second version comes in a complete new UI and you have to rearrange it as you are used to. Many thanks for the good work so far! 73s Chris DL1MGB Am 20.11.2023 um 18:04 schrieb David Perry, N4QS: To all DX4WIN users: We really need Paul to do something. He promised the databases would be available on the next update, but that was four years ago. I have been asking for full integration with WSJT-X for years to no avail. This is a great program with a very active user base, but very little commitment from Paul. I wonder if Paul would be willing to sell his interest in the product to a group of users. We might all consider buying him out and then forming our own development team and support group. We could even make it open source to encourage more developers to get involved. Paul, I think it is about time that you let us know what your future plans entail. It is not fair to your loyal users to keep them in the dark and not provide any further development. We all scratch our heads and talk among ourselves, but we just cannot figure out why you no longer want to support your fine program. Are you bored? Have health problems? Lost interest? Bottom line, what would it take to buy you out? I would be happy to lead a user group to see if we can do just that. I would not do it for any profit motive, and my time and money would be provided for the benefit of all. In fact, if you were willing to talk I would suggest that we form a 501(c)(3) to make it a non-profit venture. I personally think it would be fun for the users to take ownership in the application. The biggest issue is can we find users who have the technical background to support the product? I have no idea what programming languages and database software you use to power DX4WIN, but whatever you use is working great. Would you want to continue to provide overall technical leadership or would you prefer to retire? All of these questions and issues would have to be discussed. Can you project your future revenue streams over the next three years? Can you provide actual revenue over the past three years? If so, I am sure we can monetize your financial interest in DX4WIN as it stands today. You have a great product that has stood the test of time over 25 years. I am sure you would like to see it continue well into the future. I am a former partner with Deloitte & Touche and for the last 30 years have owned and operated three family businesses. I am now retired, but I have the background to help in such a transaction. My sole interest is to see DX4WIN become more actively developed and supported for benefit of the general ham radio community. Paul, please let me know via the reflector or privately if the time is right for you to discuss future options. I would also invite any other members of the user community to express their interest in joining me in forming a group to keep DX4WIN alive and as a legacy to its founder. Jim, AD1C, would definitely have to be one of the founding user group members. All if favor, say aye! I am sure that if we formed a user group, we would have many users who would want to volunteer their services to help with various aspects of distribution, user support and development of DX4WIN going forward. We would need volunteers to upgrade and support the website. Help with new user installations. Help with ongoing product development, etc. If Paul can provide us with a price, we can then determine the best way to raise the funds to buy him out. We could ask for donations. We could also continue to charge modest amounts for new installations and updates -- but only until the initial buyout amount has been paid off. Thereafter, we might explore a donation based model just to raise enough money to pay for ongoing administrative expenses -- if any. Again, our user group could be creative and flexible as we work together to evolve the product overtime. I do not think this would be that big an effort to organize as long as Paul thinks the time is right. Ultimately, it all depends on what Paul wants to do. Paul, in the interest of your many devoted users, is this something that we can begin to discuss with you? 73, Dave, N4QS n...@vci.net Cell: 270.210.9912 -Orig

rue Bruce, the search is just great with DX4Win. But the program is not being adapted to the changes in our ham world... FT8, LoTW, Clublog... Is it that hard to implement these improvements ? All other programs do that, why can't Clublog do it too ? Is it that hard ? But no matter what we Europeans say about it, there will still be no reaction from the developpers. Why you may ask. I made a lot of rigfiles where only standard modes can be used/selected not all the new modes That grow every day, infact these all count for Digital mode. If for example dx4win receive mode = 1 then depending on the rigfile it know that the mode is USB. If it receive mode = 0 then it know it is LSB but if it receive mode = 5 (USB-D or data) then how it has to know it is FT8 and not JT65 with submode JT65b? At that moment the program needs to act different and depend on a "txt" that comes in and not on a value In my opinion this is not done in 123 to make it fool prove. Re: [Dx4win] Auto Upload to LOTW, etc.
Hi Bruce Let me be clear : I like DX4Win a lot. It has many features that are very easy to use, and does MOST of what I (and may I think most users) expect from a logging program. Re LoTW, it has been experiencing long delays in the past weeks/days, but uploads take a few minutes if not seconds to be completed when it works OK. Bruce, count the number of mouse clicks your procedure needs, even including reading the email you receive from LoTW., and including the newly confirmed QSOs into your log. The program by N2AMG called L32LogSync requires 2 (two) clicks to do ALL this (this program works with Logger32 and DXLab, at least). If this program works with 2 logging programs, it should work with 3, obviously requiring changes in DX4Win architecture. Are these changes a 2 year-job or a few hours, I do not know, I am a full ignorant in computering. And again, this could be optional if this was to be implemented some day. As for logging WSJT/JTDX QSO directly into DX4Win, I see no reason why to object to such improvement. So my question to the developpers remain : what are they working on, if they are working on anything ? 73 Paul F6EXV Le 06/04/2020 à 00:44, Bruce Blackley a écrit : I upload my contacts to LoTW via e-mail. Re: [Dx4win] Development
Hi Bruce Let's face it : the 2 major competitors to DX4Win are Logger32 and DXLab. Both are free, and very well supported. I am also thankfull to all our DX4W friends who kindly spend their time answering any questions. They basically do everything DX4Win does, plus other things. Yes I agree, DX4Win is intuitive, and I lilke the ease of searching through the log with several criteria (like all the QSO on 17m in CW with Chile for example). Other features are very nice too. One major difference is what I mentioned in my original message : easy and "automatic" interaction with LoTW and JTDX/WSJT. I have been testing L32, and could easily configure it so that each QSO is automatically uploaded to Clublog and to LoTW upon completion. No need to do anything to achieve that. When I make a contact in JTDX, the QSO is automatically transfered to L32, no mouse click whatsoever I wish DX4Win would allow the same possibilities. But even more important, lack of communications from the developpers is sort of unacceptable, keeping in mind the program is not free. And I am not talking about myself on this... So, what next ? 73 and stay away from the beast ! Paul F6EXV Le 04/04/2020 à 22:10, Bruce Blackley a écrit : I have been using Dx4Win for about 15 years. Re: [Dx4win] Development
Guy Thanks for your input. I disagree with you : to take a simple example, L32LogSync will (automatically for each QSO if you set it up this way) upload QSOs to ClubLog and/or LoTW very easily. JTDX and WSJT make provisions to send QSO directly to some logs, like Logger32 for example, and it is not the only one. We cannot log into DX4Win, and this requires an import of the whole WSJT log, duplicated included... These features are very usefull, and make our lifes easy. Whether QSOs are uploaded one by one, or every X period, the total trafic is the same alltogether. But the main point is : what are the developpers working on, if on anything ? WE NEED INFORMATION ! 73 Paul F6EXV Le 04/04/2020 à 12:09, ON4AOI a écrit : Paul, My point of view is that all these automatic uploads leads to many errors and unneeded internet traffic. check eQSL where I get every week claims for qso's with wrong band, wrong time etc even fake qso's are there now and then. Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win Import Help
Hi all I have just tested it. I have written CQWWSSB2018-TEST in the QSO note field. In DX4Win version 9.0.4.1976, this note is copied into the "Note for this Call" field instead of "Note for this QSO". The origin program (where the QSOs were logged during the contest) is DXLog. Re: [Dx4win] Simple LOTW Search
Hi David I uploaded the full 7O8AA log (years ago) in its intirety, and it will not change. I uploaded it once. The search provides a convenient way to view a station's last upload date which can be helpful in deciding whether to send a card or wait for lotw confirmation. Hello all Has anyone using DX4Win and clublog tested the OQRS ? I wonder what the procedure is when importing the ADIF file from Clublog created by OQRS. Let's say I have my DXpedition log opened under DX4win. Which option shall I select when importing the adif file ? How will I be able to tell the direct request from the bureau requests in the log? Hi all, and Kostas Fair enough, this is an option. Thank you for the suggestion. Still, the only customizable info is PSE or TNX QSL and a phrase that will be on every label, but will be the same on every callsign. But I see no solution if I want something else. _/For example/_, no comment at all on PJ7X label, and PSE QSL via REF on TO5FJ label. Re: [Dx4win] Clublog
Hello ! An easy way to take care of invalid QSO is to filter for valid QSO before you do the export to adif. Go to filter; on the mixed DXCC field, select -- and press enter. You can then do the export to adif, and accept the Filter active, use it for export. Now, this is only if you have *not* done the changes to S, C or I. I tried to get DX4WIN to invalidate the invalid QSO's by using QSO/Mark invalid for awards, which put an I in Mixed/Band/Mode for 9 different awards. The problem with what you are doing is that if the other station uploads his log to Logbook of the world, signed with the AD1C/0 certificate, and you upload the same QSO but logged as AD1C, LoTW will never match those two QSOs. Here is an example: recently I think ZS9Z/1 uploaded their log to LoTW (Penguin Island). They got hundreds of matches. [Dx4win] Strange happening
Hi all A friend of mine is using another logging program. He sent me his adif exporyt file, which I imported into a DX4Win logfile. What apparently happened is that I downloaded a chunk of my log, used LoTW/Import for LOTW to import those and DX4WIN didn't check if the contacts were confirmed, setting the LoTW Cnfm flag for all QSOs. I was able to recover from this by clearing all of the LoTW confirm flags (create a selection with Cnfm:Y in the LoTW column then LoTW/Clear LoTW confirmed which cleared all of them. Re: [Dx4win] Country error because of wrongly given callsign
Hi When foreign operators operate in China, they have to give their callsign first, followed by the callsign of the club station they use. So it is indeed China, and yes, you may just change the country to BY in the prefix box. Re: [Dx4win] PJ split
Hi again The vast majority of the DX community ASSUMES there will be changes; which is indeed LIKELY. There are still many questions to answer by the DXAC ( I am not surprised they have not said anything yet). But keep in mind there are several options. 1/ Delete the 2 present PJs and create 4 new entities. 2/ Just create 2 new entities : if so, most everyone _assumes_ these will be Curaçao and Sint Marteen. It may not be that obvious. The DXAC in the past has taken MANY irrational decisions. So, unless DXAC explains in advance how they view the situation, I would not bet on any obvious decision. To just name one example : the date of creation of FJ is questionable. The unpublished reasoning is the date the island was added to the DoS list of special sovereignty areas makes it a new entity. This date is actually the date of the information by the DoS of the new political status, but the actual change took place earlier. Another question is : why did they not delete the combination of the ex FS and FJ, and create 2 new entities, since the political change affected both islands simultaneously and equally ? So again, unless DXAC makes an official annoucement of what they _plan_ to do, I would wait for the decision to be official. Will be happy to discuss that off the list. 73 Paul F6EXV Le 19/08/2010 20:04, Jim Reisert AD1C a écrit : On Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 10:50 AM, Neil G0JHCg0...@blueyonder.co.uk wrote: I don't want to over write my current country file but would prefer to add the new PJ DXCC's that seem 99.9% certain to happen on 10/10/10 to my current file. I plan to release a country file update the weekend of October 2/3 will contain the potential new PJ entities. It will be preliminary as official prefixes have not been announced. Even if the prefixes do change, the next country file update will have those changes and your DXCC status will remain the same. Until then, please be patient. 73 - Jim AD1C __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
