[Dx4win] DX-Cluster
Hello all, I'm a new user of DX4WIN. I hope this programm will meet my requirements in logging and track trace DXCC's (awards, Paper/LOTW QSL-ing) in combination with a dx-cluster. After trying to set-up the dx-cluster a question came up. Is it possible to select and save a preferred dx-cluster and auto-connect to it after starting up DX4WIN? I couldn't find it. 73's, Evert PA2KW __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] DX-Cluster
Hi Evert, Welcome to DX4WIN. It does not auto-connect, but it does save the most recent dx-cluster that you connected to at the top of the list. So it is easy to find your favorite the next time you start DX4WIN. I actually use CC User by VE7CC to stay connected to may favorite cluster outside of DX4WIN. I then connect DX4WIN to CC User by using the following address: localhost:7300. This link tells you how to do this: http://www.w4gkf.com/dxcluster You should also refer to the excellent support by AD1C by going to this link: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/index.html Click on Jim's Applications Notes for many good tips on how to setup and use DX4WIN. 73, Dave, N4QS -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Evert Bakker (PA2KW) Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2013 1:03 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX-Cluster Hello all, I'm a new user of DX4WIN. [Dx4win] DX-Cluster
Well, you guys are fast in replying. Tnx for the info. I see that several of you use the VE7CC cluster program and that it can work together with DX4WIN (up to a certain level I guess). So I just scanned the W4GKF paper, which raised another question. He's talking about setting up the filters by checking the boxes of needed DXCC on certain bands (if I'm right). But should DX4WIN not do the work and compare my DXCC-list of worked and confirmed countries (from the qso database) as per band/mode/etc with the incoming spots? I don't want my cluster to tell what I need or not. I prefer this type of information and intelligence to be on my own computer. Am I right that the VE7CC program won't meet this specific requirement? May be I should even go back to the basis. I used VQLog in combination with DXTelnet from Fabrizio for more then 15 years now. It workes(d) great (especially for VHF) BUT: With all the new ways of confirming DXCC (LOTW), the spot window of VQLog is not able to show me what I want. I do have many paper qsl's but still need a couple of hundred for certain bands/or modes. In the meantime I also started working DXCC's on specific band/mode if don't have them confirmed on LOTW. I just started all over again (keeps me away from the street) I want my spot window to warn me if I need a QSO with the DXCC or slot (this triggers my Amp) or need the QSL in either paper or LOTW (this might trigger my Amp) These warnings should preferably be in different colours in the Spot window. Is this possible with DX4WIN in combi with it's own or external Cluster/Spot program. I allready noticed that many programs can't do this. Well a rather long story. Sorry bothering you with these (may be stupid ideas). 73's, Evert PA2KW __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] DX Cluster connection
I am brand new to DX4WIN (and spotting nets for that matter: haven't been on in 12 years, HI HI). Things are going fine except I can't connect to a DX spotting cluster via the Internet. I have 1. Entered Type: Regular and COM Port:TCP/IP into the Setup Parameters for the Cluster interface in the Packet1 tab 2. Examined but not changed anything in the Packet2 and 3 tabs According to the DX4WIN Help file, After you have configured the TNC, the DX Spots Window is available. Available where? I can't find a menu item in DX4WIN that would open a spotting Window. After 30 minutes of trying different things over and over, at one point I saw a list of WWW addresses in a new Window. I selected one but nothing seemed to happen afterwards. Now I can't seem to get the Window with addresses back. I must be missing some simple point or my system is blocking something. Thanks in advance. Re: [Dx4win] DX Cluster connection
Randy No-one has come to your Aid yet, but you might have done nothing wrong, just not completed the process. You found preferences; and you want to check Packet 1 tab. Assuming you are using Internet, you use Cluster interface Type - Regular, COM port - TCP/IP, the rest shouldn't matter. IN DX4WIN , you should then have a packet window. In the packet window, you see some commands, one is called Connect. When you press this , you see a dialogue box no connection active; OK this ten you get a screen called Select Internet Address. You will need to select one of these, and you might have to set up an account; it sounds like you haven't got one. This should get you going. There are more tricks you can do, like use the VE7CC software, but that's for another day. Enjoy ! 73 Dave G3NKC -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net]on Behalf Of Randy Rhea Sent: 24 January 2010 21:23 To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX Cluster connection I am brand new to DX4WIN (and spotting nets for that matter: haven't been on in 12 years, HI HI). [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?
Hello all, This questions is regarding automatic hookup to a DX cluster like AR User by VE7CC? Right now when I bring up dx4win I have to click the connect button at the bottom of some window and then select which dx cluster I want to look at from a very long list and then enter my call, hit enter then click on SH/DX to see the DX. dx4win knows my call sign, my name, my qth, I can tell it what cluster I want, but maybe it already do this and I just don't know how to use this feature?? So is there an automatic way to just bring up dx4win and have it automatically connect to VE7CC ( or what ever dx cluster I previously select)?? Thanks in advance for any help. Hi Dennis, Jim all; I raised this point a while ago (again!!); and am happily hooked up top AR Cluster, which I have configured to my home node. I still think that this is too many key strokes and ops; and my opinion is still that it should be automated, just like running Win Test. Here; once set up, it can be forgotten about; it just runs in a Telnet window. Mine is just an opinion, I am not the software writer; guess I know what I like and what I find a bit of a drag... Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?
I raised this issue several years ago and got a nasty rejection from the DX4WIN email support. Soured me on DX4WIN for years. In my opinion it is programming not worthy of a commercial product. The BandMap and moving the last used cluster to the top of the list are improvements. Starting the cluster in DX4WIN is a chore that shouldn't have remained for so many years. Here; once set up, it can be forgotten about; it just runs in a Telnet window. Mine is just an opinion, I am not the software writer; guess I know what I like and what I find a bit of a drag... Still to get round to updating to V8; been very busy, so am happy to let the dust settle for the moment. and then jump in.. 73 Dave G3NKC -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net]on Behalf Of Jim Reisert AD1C Sent: 08 August 2009 16:17 To: Dennis Petrich Cc: DX4WIN Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup? Oh for crying out loud! It's NOT a lot of work to connect. But after you have done it many thousands of times it DOES get irritating. Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?
Here Here Mel ! There are many features that if you analysed it you could do with just a few mouse clicks; and they all add up. - rig control / mode selection - is a nice to have in a logging programme; but we accept that the user is not lazy for wanting it (I bet someone used Erkki's argument 15 years ago ! - Rotator control - entering time automatically What about in DX4WIN operator preferences - they save you having to configure the programme every time you use it; for your laziness! We accept these niceties; and the same should be true of other features that would enhance the programme! In Win Test, which was the example I used, the choice of which cluster to use etc is still down to the user; it is merely anther preference that he sets up. I think about it as operator convenience; rather than laziness. I have enough things to do with my PC before I want to operate! 73 Dave G3NKC -Original Message- From: Mel [mailto:ve...@videotron.ca] Sent: 08 August 2009 20:08 To: Erkki Heikkinen Cc: 'N8NN'; 'Dave Sharred'; 'Jim Reisert AD1C'; 'Dennis Petrich'; 'DX4WIN' Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup? [Dx4win] DX Cluster Drop
I use VE7CC software (http://www.bcdxc.org/ve7cc/default.htm) to connect to the cluster and then interface DX4WIN to it through a local network. VE7CC will reconnect if you get dropped and DX4WIN will never know it was disconnected. Tom AA4VV
[Dx4win] Re: Dx4win] DX Cluster Drop
There isn't a solution readily available, since this is typically an ISP inactivity timeout. I've sometimes found that using a DXcluster node on a different ISP helps. Opening the packet window and hitting ENTER helps, or running Tardis with really aggressive time sync settings. 73, Byron At 04:01 AM 1/17/2005, John, KC9JS [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I've got the same problem. Tony once you downloaded VE7CC to a file, mine is Program Files/VE7CC I ended up with the following folders; cluster.dat, cty.dat, st6unst.log, ve7cc2.cfg, ve7cc.cfg and ve7cc.exe I created a desktop icon for ve7cc.exe. Then I opened my dx4win folder and opened the folder dx4win.tcp and entered VE7CC,127.0.0.1:7300 Now when I want to ham I click on the icon for ve7cc and when it opens I go to dx4win and right click in the packet window and click on VE7CC, 127.0.0.1:7300 Most often I can do this fast enough that it is all open before the spots roll in but if not I send it a sh/dx. Don't forget when you bring up VE7CC the first time you should go through all the setting tabs and configure them the way you want. I really like this cluster because it has the built in keep alive so I don't find it shut down on me unless I actually shut it down. Also it provides a good representative of spots from around the globe. Let me know if you have more problems. My suggestion is just copy the existing line for ve7cc and paste into below making changes for the ve7cc-1 entry. 73 de Paul, VE7AVV StoneyGround Station -||**||**||**||**||**||**||- All email from this address is checked by Norton AntiVirus
