[Dx4win] dx spots window
Hello everyone, I have a small problem with dx4win. At the bottom I have the dx-spots window. When I click on the sign, the window is gone, which is normal. But after that I can't find it anywhere. No, it is not hidden behind other windows. Previously with windows 7 I could find the closed window at the bottom of the taskbar, but now with windows 10 not. I now have to close and restart dx4win. Does it depend on the program or on windows 10? 73 - ON5GM __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Of course if you do that, you'll no longer be able to go click on a spot and have your radio automatically tune to the frequency and correct mode of the spot ( if you have your radio linked to your computer). Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the display? There is no MODE field in the DX Spots window. DX4WIN determines the mode from the frequency, based on the CW/SSB cutoffs in your QSO preferences. DX4WIN can not determine the mode for Digital spots (RTTY, PSK, etc.) unless the mode was put there by the spotting station, which shows up in the spot comments field, for example: DX 14080 T2GC up 2-5 RTTY This can also cause problems, for example: DX 10110 R0ABC up 2 when SSB? This will cause DX4WIN to switch the mode to SSB because of the spot comment. So in summary: 1. no mode field in DX spots window 2. [Dx4win] DX spots mode display?
When I click on a spot in the band map my radio jumps to the correct spot frequency but not the correct mode, in some cases DX4WIN V8.05 shows the correct mode (mode selected in the radio when there connected) but if I click on an RTTY spot the radio will go to the correct frequency but may change modes to CW or DIGL or SSB? Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the display? One solution would be if I clock on a spot and only the frequency goes to the radio and not the mode. Is this possible? I searched through the help files for several hours and cannot find an answer... DX4WIN is a very sophisticated program with enormous flexibility so I hope there is an easy solution I missed. Unfortunately, these problems are hard to solve. Have you tried connecting to a different DX Cluster node? Is the problem the same? My suggestion would be to use the VE7CC CC User program between your DX Cluster node and DX4WIN (CC User connects to the node, DX4WIN connects to localhost). This program does auto-reconnect very well, and I can stay connected for days, even on my wireless network. http://bcdxc.org/ve7cc/ This software does *NOT* support AR-Cluster nodes. I hope your preferred node is running either CC Cluster or DX Spider. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots in color
Pat - the smartass answer is "Work them!" Easier said than done for sure. You may have a 6M QSO accidentally entered as C5 or TK. Try Filtering (F8) on C5 (after hitting F8, put your cursor in the Prefix window and hit F1. Type "The" and select The Gambia) and filter on 6M (move your cursor into Band and select 6m). The hit Enter. Any 6M QSO for C5 will show up in the log entry window. Sorry if this is over-explained. Hope that works. 73, Bud N7CW On Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 3:37 PM, Pat Rose wrote: > Most of my needed DX show up in red, however lately I have found a couple > of needed do not. I am using DX4WIN version 8.05 and use the dxspots window get info from either a direct telnet link to a cluster or the VE7CC cluster / software program. I like to see spots sorted by frequency, but when I do this and I scroll to the top of the window to grab a spot, the curser immediately goes down to the bottom of the window showing 10 meter spots. Is there any way to limit the spots shown to just one band, or if not how can I use the window sorted by frequency without it jumping down to the bottom each time. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
You might consider using something other than K1TTT. It's an extremely busy cluster, best to spread the activity around. Using telnet you will receive each spot exactly once. With a Web server, you are receiving them in fixed batches. If activity is low, you will receive spots multiple times. If it gets busy... more than 25 per minute, you may miss some. I would turn the question around... I would is ask is why use HTTP (DXSummit)? It's a sub-optimum solution. The only reason I can think of is if you are behind a firewall such as at work where telnet access is restricted... but I wouldn't think that is the case for most of us. Who gets to operate at work? ;-) On 2011-08-15 17:55, Mark K3MSB wrote: > The "25 Spot" is refreshing as expected. > > Why should I use a telnet cluster instead of the server? > > Which cluster do you (or others) recommend? Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
One disadvantage of using DX Summit with for DX4WIN spots is that frequency is only accurate to the kHz. A spot that shows up on 14200.4 on a browser will display as 14200.0 in the DX4WIN spot window. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
The spots that you get from a cluster come in as a steady stream, in essentially real-time. Most, if not all, cluster systems on the Internet are interconnected so the old concept of connecting to one close to you to pick up locally spotted DX doesn't apply. Some clusters do have filtering on them so that they only display spots from a particular country, though I don't think that the one on K1TTT does that. I'd turn your question around and ask why you'd want to use a web-based one with only periodic refreshes? The one possible reason would be if you were behind a firewall that blocked access on the ports required for use by the cluster nodes themselves. While I don't normally use the K1TTT node I do use it as a backup for when my "primary" one goes down. I've never found that it's missing spots so I'm not sure why you are having issues. I had initially suggested that you use the K1TTT node because I use that myself (occasionally, as noted) and I know that it's well connected with a steady feed, but you might want to pick another one and see if that seems to work better for you. I'd just pick one off the list that seems to be close to you. As I mentioned, most these days are very interconnected and you should have no trouble receiving spots. On the other hand, if you're happy with the spots from DX Summit then I can't really think of any reason to change. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
The "25 Spot" is refreshing as expected. Why should I use a telnet cluster instead of the server? Which cluster do you (or others) recommend? The K1TTT cluster seems to have much less activity on it than DX Summitt. Thanks Mark K3MSB On Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 7:13 AM, Mel wrote: > No, it's the 25 spots that refreshes. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
No, it's the 25 spots that refreshes. You can make any line auto refresh by appending a | and the number of minutes. However, you should *NOT* auto refresh large numbers of spots as this would be an inconsiderate waste of the spot server's bandwidth. If you want history, initially download 1000 spots then switch to the 25 spot feed. Frankly, unless you are behind a firewall, you should use the telnet clusters not the web server. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Keep-alive is only an issue if the cluster you connect to requires it. Basically, some clusters will disconnect you if they don't see anything from your system within a certain amount of time. If that's the case, you'll need to have a keep-alive set, but you'd still see spots coming in for the first few minutes until the time-out kicked in. Which cluster are you connecting to, and do you see spots coming into the packet window? You might want to try something like the K1TTT-1 cluster which is tied to a skimmer, meaning that you'll get a pretty much constant flow of spots, especially now with the WAE CW contest in progress. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Assuming that you're seeing spots coming into the packet window (if not, then the problem is with the cluster you're connecting to), you need to make sure that the DX Spots window is sorting by arrival time. In that window, right-click and select Sort then click on Arrival. (You can also look at the window title, it should say something like "DX spots [DXCC] sorted by Arrival". Also, make sure that you haven't accidentally held the window, it'll say "(HOLDING)" if it is. If it says that, press the Insert button on your keyboard when you've got the window in focus. Re: [Dx4win] dx spots stop coming in???
It sounds like you just plain lost your connection to the node. Happens all the time. I recommend you run the VE7CC Cluster User interface. [Dx4win] dx spots stop coming in???
I have noticed lately, maybe to upgrading to DX4WIN version 7.07.02 that the spots mysteriously just stop coming in without any notice from the connected cluster. No warning, spots just stop coming in Any help would be appreciated. I am running DX4WIN and Time Warner Roadrunner internet connection behind a Dynex router. The other computer off the router is controlling a Echolink VHF link to our DX repeater. Thanks. Jim and John, I did a sh/time and saw the node I was connected to was running on Eastern Standard Time, not Daylight Saving time. However, that night the DX spots log rolled past 2359 and has been running great ever since. Rick, Here is what I did and it sure simplifies things until an autoconnect feature comes along... Save a copy of your dx4win.tcp file under a different name (dx4win_all.tcp or whatever) or in a different location. Open the dx4win.tcp file with notepad and delete all the clusters you do not use. Hopefully you have a single reliable node picked out and that will be the only one you keep. Save your file. Now when you open it up there will only be one entry and all you have to do is click ok. The next step is to set one of the packet window f-keys to your call and %M for carriage return and any other keys for your frequently used commands (sh/dx/50, etc.), Makes things much much simpler! 73 es DX de Mike / W8DN - Original Message - From: "Jim Reisert AD1C" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Rick Graham" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 7:06 PM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots > --- Rick Graham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > 1. Rick, I think I can help with part of you question, ie the filtering the internet spots. After you telnet in type: set/filter k/pass (or what ever country you want to see spots from) Or to limit spots to given states: set/filter doc/pass k set/filter dos/pass nc,sc,ga,fl (this is a list of states that you want to see the spots from) to view your filter setting, type show/filter These filter are retained when you log off the packet node. You will have to set them for each packet node that you access. 73, Ed K3IXD Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 18:01:43 -0400 From: "Rick Graham" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Dx4win] DX Spots To: Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi all, I know this has been rehashed, but I cannot find my references. 1. Shawn it looks you are conneted to a http address ?? if so, the spots are retrieved from that page only once, i.e. the screen is not refreshed automatically. You can retrieve the most recent spots by pressing the Enter key in the packet window. Note that for http addresses the window title bar shows the current action and possible error messages. Try the cluster connection you have in the 503 version... or connect to KE9KD. mabe it solves the problem. It works here. [Dx4win] DX Spots & World Map
Been using Ver 6.02 and the spots have stopped showing in DX Spots = window, if I do a SH/DX those spots will come up in the DX Spots window = but any following spots are not received in the spots window until = another sh/dx is done. The World Map, Propagation is not consistent and the map colors are not = changeable. Also when I size the log window and adjust the columns to desired = setting the columns don't hold when saved and then program is restarted. Going back to Ver 5.03 which works just fine thank you. [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Hi Folks, Sorry to disturb but I am new to DX4WIN and I need assistance. Regarding DX Spots Window, left end of the window shows 'P'. What does this P stand for? What are the meaning of numbers just below P? I wish to read old postings in order not to disturb you all, are there any method to read them? I only found postings of 1998-2001 (where is 2002-2003?). Thanks your kind assistance in advance. Solo
[Dx4win] DX spots sometimes seem to stall-Maybe reason discovered!
I may have discovered the reason the spots seem to stall. I occasionally have been having trouble with the date and time randomly changing in my computer. Not sure why but it does. Just a bit ago I found the date and time were back in 2000 which may account for the problem. Now that I have observed this possible affect, I might have an explanation if it happens again. I am not sure the reason this happens because I use Tardis to set the date/time every half hour. There may be more than one problem associated with the mysterious date/time change as it might stall Tardis too. Not sure. Thanks for the inputs/suggestions. 73, Charlie, W0YG..>>

This is a good point. For reasons I don't understand, some software, running in the background under windows, can also disrupt timekeeping. I use automachron for internet time -- a big feature for me when I was chasing a clock problem was its logging feature that would tell you hoe much of a correction had been applied each interval. I finally tracked my problem down to a redundant sound card mixer that was running in the background! The hardware it related to was disabled in the BIOS but it kept doing something disruptive anyway. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated 23 Feb 03. Hi Charlie, Some time servers are bad, and Tardis will grab a bad time off them. Once I logged a bunch of QSOs 91 minutes off because I got a bad time from a server. It was only luck that I noticed the problem. There is a setting in Tardis called "Maximum Correction Allowed" which should prevent this from happening, i.e. it would just ignore a bad server and set the time at the next interval. 73 - Jim AD1C = Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC
[Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Thanks to everybody answering my original question about saving spot info. It seems that there are two opinions 1. it works without problem 2. it doesn't work but can be solved checking Save DX Spots in Preferences/Packet1 When I compare v 5.03 and 6.02 it works OK in 5.03 without having checked Save DX Spots. In 6.02 I can get it work IF I check Save DX Spots. I have set update to every 10 min and it is interesting to note that if I have spots coming up in the window say after only two minutes after start of DX4WIN and exit , they are still saved and appear when reloading DX4WIN again. So in my view there is bug here introduced with v 6.02 (or 6.01 for that matter). It would be fine to have Paul's opinion on this matter, please. 73 Erik Erik Hyllander, SM0LZT e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] alt.: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Packet: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It appears that every time a spot is received the backup runs. Or, at least that what it looks like it's doing. I have it "licenced" at the office and it DOESN"T save the spots... it works fine at home The office setup is Win98... and has nothing configured, ie radios, soundcards, TNCs etc. The home stup is XP and has everything configured... - Original Message - From: "Jim Reisert AD1C" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Ted Sarah - W8TTS" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Roger Borowski" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; ; "'Erik Hyllander'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 21, 2003 09:46 Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window > I installed DX4WIN in Demo mode at the office. > > With "Backup DX Spots" unchecked, the spots are NOT saved. I must confess I am unclear on what checking the box "backup spots" is supposed to do... as they seem to be backed up unconditionally when I close DX4Win... perhaps Jim or Paul can clarify this... It almost seems that DX4Win is not saving your spot file on closing DX4Win. Ted... Did you check and see if when the backup box is checked that spots arriving between the last backup interval and closing DX4Win are saved? - Original Message - From: "Ted Sarah - W8TTS" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Roger Borowski" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; ; "'Erik Hyllander'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 21, 2003 08:16 Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window > I just went in and unchecked the "Backup DX spots" box.
