Re: [Dx4win] OmniRig
Bill, In his message concerning DX4WIN Updates on this Reflector: http://www.mail-archive.com/search?l=dx4win@mailman.qth.netq=subject:%22Re%3A+%5BDx4win%5D+Fwd%3A+Re%3A+Updates+on+a+more+positive+note%21%22 Paul has responded following concerning the Omnirig: 6. OmniRig: Has evaluated to a powerful system, using text files to describe the interface similar to what DX4WIN does. The problem for me is that OmniRig is event driven, DX4WIN polls the radio. I am not sure if it means there would be a problem to do it, and it would not be done for that reason. But. looking in the OmniRig's configuration window, there are well a polling time and time-outs specified, like in DX4WIN. Running the OmniRig's Client.exe program one can see that Omnirig polls the radio and changing the frequencies/modes on the rig are well reflected in the Client.exe window. But I may have not well interpreted what Paul exactly meant with OmniRig is event driven 73, Radi F6GNZ Le Mardi 11 mars 2014 23h35, William Osborne wosborn...@gmail.com a écrit : Does anyone know if support for OmniRig will be added to DX4WIN soon? One is the PULL model, where you continually ask the source if new data is available. When the data finally changes from the last time you asked, you do something with it. This is the same as POLLING. It's like being blind, and having to ask the person next to you if the score in the football match has changed yet. When it does change, you stand up and cheer. Depending on how often you ask, it could be minutes after the goal before you stand up and cheer. The other is the PUSH model. The source of the data only sends it to you when it changes. It doesn't have ears, only a mouth, so it can't respond to queries. Like the scoreboard at a football match. DX4WIN would just sit and wait for Omnirig to tell it the that the radio changed. This is known as event driven. DX4WIN only knows how to ask for data, i.e. polling. It doesn't know what to do with data that is given to it without asking. -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Hi Jim, I understand. But I thought that there was no problem with it: when data changes, info will be kept in OmniRig and reported next time when DX4WIN polls OmniRig. Is there a problem with it? 73, Radi Le Dimanche 16 mars 2014 17h08, Jim Reisert AD1C jjreis...@alum.mit.edu a écrit : On Sun, Mar 16, 2014 at 4:19 AM, Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ wrote: But. looking in the OmniRig's configuration window, there are well a polling time and time-outs specified, like in DX4WIN. Re: [Dx4win] OmniRig
Hi, I have had a success to synchronize mu SDR RX and Icom IC706 using Omnirig and RigSync and having DX4WIN to control IC706 via MicroHAM Router (IC706/DX4WIN on CAT1 and Omnirig/IC706 on CAT2). Unfortunately, there was no way to have DX4WIN control the SDR RX, which would make this setup perfect. Trying to do same with FT1000MP instead of IC706: many sync delays, MP timeouts due to poliing conflicts which couldn't be handled by the old binary CAT protocol of the MP. Everything would have been better if DX4WIN had integrated OmniRig support ! 73, Radi F6GNZ Le Vendredi 13 décembre 2013 10h09, William Osborne wosborn...@gmail.com a écrit : Has anyone had any success using the OmniRig software to interface your rig to two programs needing access to the rig cat port at the same time, for example DX4WIN and a Pan_Adaptor programs? Re: [Dx4win] OmniRig
Dx4win UNFORTUNATELLY does not support omnirig. I am asking for omnirig support the last 3-4 years... Anyway maybe a solution use a software (I am sure you will find a number of the to internet) to split the real com port (this whether the radio is connected) to 2 virtual ports: one for dx4win and one for omnirig. Personally I have not tried this solution because I use a microkeyer which already uses virtual ports and I am afraid that using another program doing the same will confuse my computer. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 12/12/2013 7:50 μμ, ο/η William Osborne έγραψε: Has anyone had any success using the OmniRig software to interface your rig to two programs needing access to the rig cat port at the same time, for example DX4WIN and a Pan_Adaptor programs? RE: [Dx4win] omnirig
Hi Kostas and others, Paul and I discussed the problems with the OMNI VII Earlier this week but we didn´t have one to test with, The mayor problem with this rig is the commands that Tentec use (example |=CR - vertical bar = carriage return) Since no other radio use these shortcuts or whatever you call them They are not recognized in DX4WIN (for the moment being) After reading the last mail this morning I drove 300 KM To pick up a omni VII from a friend to debug all the possibilities With Paul. (maybe later today or this week) Since I didn´t have the original supplied serial cable brought with me I took a straight (working) serial cable like they write in there manual, But this doesn´t work !! (works ok with my LP100A) tried with several programs. Got it working with a trusted USB to serial converter where I can arrange the pins Only 5 connections are needed btw. (If I wasn´t smarter I could have start yelling stupid programs They never work etc etc). Most of the time the problems with radios or other connected items is not software related but a hardware problem. I had 10 or even more(different brands) USB to serial adapters but only one brand Does the job 100% correct. With hyperterminal and a loopback dongle you can check if all your hardware Is working perfect. BTW Kostas A serial port in your computer can only be used 1 time. Dx4win checks if available and use it if configured in your preferences otherwise it gives you a message not available etc. Back to the OMNI VII now and see what can be changed in the different rigfiles I have from Some users (K5NA-G4RQI) GUY ON4AOI -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Namens Kostas SV1DPI Verzonden: zaterdag 15 november 2008 22:54 Aan: REFLECTOR dx4win Onderwerp: [Dx4win] omnirig i have seen that many have problems one or other way with rig control. Dx4win is not the problem the most of the time. But maybe it's time Paul and dx4win supports omnirig, a free cat control program. It would be an alternative in every case... Either for a new rig or even to check if there is a problem in dx4win or in your radio (this can be done and today). Besides this someone will have the ability to run 2 programs which both support omnirig the same time... RE: [Dx4win] omnirig
Guy Kostas was not asking about support for the Ten Tec Omni; rather that DX4WIN uses some software called OMNIRIG to do universal rig control; as a loadable software module ? I understood his question to be referring to many weaknesses of DX4WIN and rig control ? I hope I did understand this properly; I have quoted from Kostas below: But maybe it's time Paul and dx4win supports omnirig, a free cat control program. It would be an alternative in every case... Re: [Dx4win] omnirig
I don't mean that dx4win has any weakeness in rig control. I just said that i read some problems (possibly not related) abt rig control. After these emails i thought that it is time to think for a new feature: omnirig. That doesn't solve any possible problem but we have another choise. omnirig is a freeware program that controls a rig. Dx4win must have an additional radio choise. So instead of icom 756 you will choose omnirig and in omnirig program will choose icom 756. Something like ve7cc program works with clusters. This feature will help anyone wants to run multiple programs, written by different authors in different languages, to control the radio via Omni-Rig at the same time. Beside all these when a new radio must be supported we will not need to wait for a new dx4win upgrade because we will have a second choise: omnirig ; at least until the new dx4win version. Finally it is just a thought or request for a feature and nothing less or more. 73 Kostas sv1dpi PS sorry if my english are not so good and made a misunderstood. - Original Message - From: Dave Sharred [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: ON4AOI [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 'Kostas SV1DPI' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sunday, November 16, 2008 4:52 PM Subject: RE: [Dx4win] omnirig Guy Kostas was not asking about support for the Ten Tec Omni; rather that DX4WIN uses some software called OMNIRIG to do universal rig control; as a loadable software module ?
