[e-gold-list] Re: PayPal flaws

2003-03-02 Thread Jay W.
 4. The value of my holdings doesn't fluctuate as it does with e-Gold. If
I have $100 in PayPal, it remains as $100. And I don't have to calculate
 grams to dollars.  As a retailer I have a simple process: I have a product;
you want a product; I sell you that product; you pay me for that
product. I don't want to know about grams, price fluctuations, etc.

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

hi george,

the interesting thing is the mirror statement is true:

 4. The value of my holdings doesn't fluctuate as it does with Paypal. If
I have AUG 100 in e-gold, it remains as AUG 100. And I don't have to calculate
 dollars to grams.  As a retailer I have a simple process: I have a product;
you want a product; I sell you that product; you pay me for that
product. I don't want to know about USD, price fluctuations, etc.

in general of course, s/Currency1/AUG/g s/Currency2/USD/g in above holds true.

and even more generally
it is more convenient to do what other people do - but is is better to do so? :)

[e-gold-list] Re: E-Gold as a Global Currency

2003-03-02 Thread Jay W.
 And, money orders are a PITA - it's a two-step process. Picture it. I
have somebody online or in my store who wants to buy, and I only want to
take e-Gold. What does he do?

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

one possible choice many already take:

he pays using any method convenient to both parties - maybe it is even a USD
credit card. (e-gold users can then pay off their credit card bill using any
convenient OutExchange provider)

maybe merchant, wishing to receive e-gold directly, offers free toaster to
users paying with that currency. some users wonder what is this stuff called
e-gold and why does merchant want it so badly he is giving away toasters?
they educate themselves and end up opening an e-gold account.

e-gold - is it a currency? a value store? a payment system?

george - i'm not saying you're wrong cuz i don't think you are, i'm only trying
to offer another doorway of perception.

best,

[e-gold-list] Re: crypto question

2002-12-12 Thread Jay W.
cross-posting this (my reply) post to e-gold list for interested parties.
jay w.

I have a friend who is designing me a software system to help protect my
e-gold numbers etc. Encryption/Decription will be realized through
CryptoAPI. Can anyone tell me if this is a valid and strong encryption
method? What are its advantages and disavantages?

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

hi justine,

my thoughts, for what they are worth:

disadvantages:
 - no peer review of software for vulnerabilites. crypto software is easy to do badly.
 - no widespread use of one-of-a-kind application, so weaknesses may go undetected -
similar
   to above point.
 - CryptoAPI implies Windows OS which is likely the most easily targeted OS available.

advantages:
 - very small user base (1?) may not make it worth attacking to bad guy.
 - in theory, the CryptoAPI should provide tested algorithms under its hood.

i would suggest you consider:
 - migrating to a different OS. if that is just not possible, at least migrate away
from
   IE/Outlook on Windows.
 - educate yourself on computer security. i will quote an entire post of mine below as
a
   starting point in this regard.
 - consider an existing proven product for the application,
   e.g.:
   http://www.counterpane.com/passsafe.html
   http://www.pgp.com/display.php?pageID=32#PGP Personal for Windows 8.0

secure computing is kind of a way-of-life. there is no silver bullet that will
save the day - unless you are willing to give up the use of a computer ;)

here are some guidelines that may help you:
a) don't open email attachments
b) only enter sensitive information at verified SSL protected sites
c) don't use microsoft outlook for email/news
d) don't use internet explorer
e) don't use microsoft windows
f) use a hardware firewall - most of the cheaper home-user models are pretty
equivalent. nowadays some models offer stateful packet inspection. this site
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ has reviews and notes on various models.
g) keep your OS up-to-date/patched
h) use a software firewall (zonealarm if you violate e, others appropriate to your
OS if you don't)
i) use a virus scanner, but don't violate a) see http://www.sarc.com/ for notes
and tools on viruses.
j) set up these tools in their highest security mode and then only loosen the
rules for things you need.
k) if you use an 802.11b wireless laptop/lan, assume all your traffic is being
seen by third parties.
l) keep your computer physically secure from third party use
m) have a plan for the day when you do get compromised. practice your plan.

here are the why's for each of above:
a) email attachments are probably the most common way viruses arrive at your
computer. some firewall appliances or software will strip dangerous attachments.
b) sensitive data is exposed to third parties if not entered at SSL protected sites
c) being the most common email reader, outlook is a popular target of viruses. it also
has had severe security problems in the past.
d) being the most common web browser, IE is a popular target of viruses. it has had
severe
security problems in the past.
e) being the most common OS, windows is a popular target of viruses. it has had severe
security problems in the past.
f) firewalls prevent most outsider traffic from reaching your computer.
g) unpatched OS's expose exploitable vulnerabilities
h) zonealarm can prevent malicious software from making connections from your computer.
i) a virus scanner may detect and allow you to remove infections from your computer.
j) better safe than sorry
k) WEP encryption used by 802.11b networks is breakable. do not depend on it for data
content
protection.
l) prevent malicious individual from walking up to your machine and infecting it from
a floppy/cd.
m) even after following all the rules, the day could arrive when you get a virus or
lose data.

caveat:
following all these rules *may* reduce your chances of having your computer
compromised. they are provided as is and with no guarantee of usefulness
or completeness. use at your own risk :)

from a broad perspective, the ClickBank validation process looks to be
the same idea as what e-gold provides using the V2_HASH string in its
Shopping Cart Interface (SCI). [more at sci.e-gold.com]

basically the merchant and payment site have a shared secret in common
which is used as part of a signature across some piece of data unique
to the transaction allowing verification of the notification of payment.

so in general, e-gold does that. the specifics are different however.
is there a particular feature on that page you are after? maybe pre-built

yup, the e-gold SCI provides you with the ability to do that. point
STATUS_URL to a CGI on your web server. within that CGI perform the
check against the V2_HASH to validate notification from e-gold. if
that check passes, mark a file/database record as paid and/or generate
an email to your customer. within your PAYMENT_URL CGI (which the customer
is clicking thru to after making payment) check for the existence of
the paid record and only deliver product to user once it is present.

both STATUS_URL and PAYMENT_URL are inputs to the e-gold SCI. V2_HASH is
an output that is one of the fields submitted to you by e-gold at your
STATUS_URL.

I was referring to a method to avoid someone to get a product for free by

If you go directly to http://alexisware.com/bestmailer/deliver.php it will

If that's what e-gold provides with the V2_HASH, maybe I should restudy

b) only enter sensitive information at verified SSL protected sites
c) don't use microsoft outlook for email/news
d) don't use internet explorer
e) don't use microsoft windows
f) use a hardware firewall - most of the cheaper home-user models are pretty
equivalent. nowadays some models offer stateful packet inspection. this site
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ has reviews and notes on various models.
g) keep your OS up-to-date/patched
h) use a software firewall (zonealarm if you violate e, others appropriate to your
   OS if you don't)
i) use a virus scanner, but don't violate a) see http://www.sarc.com/ for notes
   and tools on viruses.
j) set up these tools in their highest security mode and then only loosen the
   rules for things you need.
k) if you use an 802.11b wireless laptop/lan, assume all your traffic is being
   seen by third parties.
l) keep your computer physically secure from third party use
m) have a plan for the day when you do get compromised. practice your plan.

here are the why's for each of above:
a) email attachments are probably the most common way viruses arrive at your
computer. some firewall appliances or software will strip dangerous attachments.
b) sensitive data is exposed to third parties if not entered at SSL protected sites
c) being the most common email reader, outlook is a popular target of viruses. it also
has had severe security problems in the past.
d) being the most common web browser, IE is a popular target of viruses. it has had
severe
   security problems in the past.
e) being the most common OS, windows is a popular target of viruses. it has had severe
   security problems in the past.
f) firewalls prevent most outsider traffic from reaching your computer.
g) unpatched OS's expose exploitable vulnerabilities
h) zonealarm can prevent malicious software from making connections from your computer.
i) a virus scanner may detect and allow you to remove infections from your computer.
j) better safe than sorry
k) WEP encryption used by 802.11b networks is breakable. do not depend on it for data
content
   protection.
l) prevent malicious individual from walking up to your machine and infecting it from
a floppy/cd.
m) even after following all the rules, the day could arrive when you get a virus or
lose data.

caveat:
following all these rules *may* reduce your chances of having your computer
compromised. they are provided as is and with no guarantee of usefulness
or completeness. use at your own risk :)

so far i am aware of the graphs by dan and some straight excel graphs from

unless something shows up by the end of next week, these guys are

if you have a graph you think is insightful or proves an interesting
point, have at it!

need ideas?
how about answering these questions with a graph:

what day of the week has the highest velocity and why?
do holidays or other newsworthy events influence e-gold velocity? how?

or you could place e-gold velocity on a graph alongside some other set
of data showing a correlation.

or just make a slick 3D graph with a rendered background that is appealing.

you have until october 5th when i'll render my decision.*

hi marco,

by design, traceroutes/pings and other ICMP type packets will not be
able to reach e-gold machines. that is not unusual and not indicative
of a problem. (this was the 3rd option mentioned in a third parties
message in the original message).

the reason your particular problem seems to be weird or specific to
data from e-gold, is that traffic from other locations *can* get thru
to your server. there are many sites out there that allow you to
traceroute/ping etc. and at the time of our investigation for your
problem, they *could* get to your server. e-gold *could not*. tracerouting
showed a difference somewhere in the .it TLD which led to our conclusion
that a server there had special knowledge aka a misconfiguration with
respect to some inbound IP ranges.

i will throw in this bone, if someone on the list offers a suggestion
or idea that directly leads to marco solving his problem, i'll spend
you 10 grams of e-gold. go get the bone!
[i am the final judge of an answer being of sufficient merit].

best,
jay w.

[e-gold-list] Re: http://mobile.e-gold.com/wml/

2002-07-03 Thread Jay W.

hi martijn,

thanks for the notes regarding the mobile e-gold site - comments
inline below...

I am able to view the options on the main menu but when I go to 'Access
Account' it pops up with some vague error about the connection. I assume
it switches to SSL there. Anyway, I can't access it.

yes - that would be when it switches to secure mode. some providers will
not support that.

It might be my phone. On the other hand I have surfed a lot of WAP sites
 and had no probs. there.

as a test you could direct your phone to:
http://mobile.e-gold.com/wml/
and then
https://mobile.e-gold.com/wml/

and see if the latter works or not. if not, most likely your provider
is not setup to proxy SSL connections.

Also, I think the interface it rather unituitive. I need to press the
option button all the time. Even to continue after the welcome to e-gold
screen. (There is no logo or image on the splash screen, is this
 correct?)

the PCS/HDML site (http://mobile.e-gold.com/) does have a logo on
the opening phone screen - but we do not have one on the WAP/WML
page. the former is supported by more of the phones we test against
than the latter so we are weaker in the layout and navigation on the
WAP/WML side. we'll use your comments to try and improve that.

...
Anyway, this weekend or the next I'll try to use my T68i phone with the
O2 Network in the Netherlands... :-)

let the list and/or e-gold technical staff at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
know the results if you'd like - also let us know your e-gold
account number and i'll see that you get a bit of e-metal as
a reward for the report.

[e-gold-list] Re: automated e-gold shopping interfaces

2002-06-11 Thread Jay W.

hi dale,

sorry this response is a bit delayed - you might want to check into
mal's ecommerce. it works with e-gold and this page mentions some ideas
about digital product delivery:

http://www.ait2000.com/help10.cfm

i have not reviewed the exact mechanism used to see how mal's implements
the STATUS_URL and V2_HASH verification. (if a technically qualified
individual would like to write up a review of mal's ecommerce focusing
on e-gold, i'll offer 10 grams e-gold up front, with a bonus paid
based on the quality of the output of up to 10 grams. contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
if you're an interested individual and we'll work out something with one
person.)

mal's was an early adopter of e-gold into its payment mechanisms and has
a wide variety of options for users.

jay w.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am after an automated interface system to accept e-gold, osgold etc. The
normal forms that are easy to setup suffer severe security problems - that
is the return url is in the pages html source preventing automated delivery
of products if I don't want to give them away.

I would like a system that verified payment and allowed automated delivery
 of product.

Does such exist and if so where?

[e-gold-list] Re: density

2002-05-27 Thread Jay W.

What's the best physical object to compare it to? (pack of
cigarettes, deck of cards or something)

sizewise i'd say 1lb of gold is about the same size as
a *wine cork*!

according to the live e-gold statistics page at
http://stats.e-gold.com
there are around 200 e-gold account holders with
a wine cork sized chunk of e-gold in their account :)

---
12 troy ounces per pound
gold:
density 19300 kg / m^3

work it thru - 1.06 inches per side of a cube - a little
bigger than a 6 sided game die.

nearby wine cork is about 7/8 inch diameter and 1 3/4 inches
long which is just over 1 inch cubed.

I'm trying to determine the physical location of e-gold's gold. I see the
examiner notes the audit was done in Ontario, (I assume) Canada, but I
also remember reading on this list someone's mentioning the gold had been
moved to London. Any confirmation on this?
Also, does anyone know where Central Escrow Agency Limited is located or
anything else about the company?
Any info would be appreciated.

some people aren't aware that google lets you search images:

if you enter
platinum coin

fwiw, i'd agree with jray, the platinum eagle is the sharpest modern coin
i've seen, but the IOM noble is close behind.

e-gold is elemental money, including platinum:

2002-04-28 Thread Jay W.

Jay, where did you get a Segway?

i just got to take it for a test drive - they didn't happen to have
one in the colour i wanted ;)

now i'm going to tangentially tie this story to e-gold. the Segways were
demonstrated at the FIRST (1) (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and
Technology)
national robotics competition held at Epcot. this organization was started 10 years
ago by Dean Kamen (3), inventor of the Segway (2), to promote engineering to high
school kids. they plan to have FIRST teams from every US high school in 5 more years.

the FIRST competition tries to mirror the engineering environment of real
world businesses. teams have a defined problem to solve in a fixed amount
of time using fixed resources. teams form alliances with other teams to
compete against each other. a lot of innovative ideas pop up each year - this
year it seemed to be the tether concept: robots would release a long tape
measure type device to extend their robot into a remote zone to score more
points.

during his speech yesterday at the FIRST event, dean mentioned exchanging Gold
for goods and ideas for ideas. dean has also started his own currency for his
'nation' of North Dumpling (4). he carries one of its bills, with a value of
Pi, in his wallet. anyone out there with some North Dumpling notes that wants
to exchange them for e-gold speak up!

[e-gold-list] Re: Goldwatch software

2002-04-12 Thread Jay W.

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

some general advice in this area - your e-gold account passphrase
is the key to your e-gold account. the e-gold web site advises:

Do not reveal your passphrase to any other web site or individual.
and
Never reveal your passphrase to anybody - not even to an employee of e-gold Ltd. or
GSR.

any software or script to cgi or program that utilizes the e-gold
automation interface for account functions requires the input
of an e-gold account passphrase. in the best case scenario you should
only use software for this purpose that you write yourself.
if you are unable to do that, you should obtain source code for
the software you will use and build it yourself. if you are unable
to do that, you are trusting your passphrase to a third party.
e-gold's advice in this regard is stated above.

2002-03-26 Thread Jay W.

Can we PLEASE have the date format changed in the .CSV e-gold history
files we save for opening in a spreadsheet?

hi ian,

try this (it works for me in ms excel 2000)...

Data - Get External Data - Import Text File ...

(pick file)

* Delimited (tell excel file is of delimited format)

Next

* Comma (tell excel the delimiter is a comma)

Next

Column data format

* Date MDY (tell excel first column is of date Month-Day-Year format)

Finish

[e-gold-list] Re: email notifications?

2002-03-14 Thread Jay W.

there is not currently a generic email transaction notification
option for e-gold account holders.

Um... ok, thanks. Wouldn't it make sense to add one? :-)

Wouldn't it be easy to add one, as well, since you already do it for SCI
 payments?

sure - it's not terribly hard to make software send an
an email message. :)

for the sake of argument, lets see where the need would
come from - i want to pay someone, but i don't know
their email address. also this someone does not have a
web page set up to accept the payment. so when i pay
them, they won't know i've paid them.

when does this situation arise? that answer will help us
prioritize the feature for addition.

we should also discuss what kind of information might be
in the email. because email is easily spoofed, we don't want
anyone getting in the habit of thinking that because
a text message arrived in their inbox, they actually own
more bits of gold - so i'd assume the email is something
like 'check your e-gold account, a new transaction has been posted'.
(the SCI notification email has a V2_HASH field that can be verified
for authenticity - i guess something like that could be added, but most
non-programmers aren't gonna bother with it).

answers/ideas?

[e-gold-list] comment on HIGH FRICTION

2002-02-19 Thread Jay W.

Any way you look at it, the dollar = gold path is HIGH FRICTION!

a little lube for the friction may come from a different
mind set...sure it's nice to spend gold directly, but it
really isn't that bad to shop with a credit card. follow
up by using an exchange provider to pay off your credit
card each month in exchange for gold.

that's shopping with gold by proxy almost as nicely as a
purchase at amazon.com via bananagold.

once you get going, you've got plenty of time to mail in
a paycheck for exchange into gold for that next credit card payment.

my 2 mg worth.

[e-gold-list] Re: help with mobile phone acceptance

2002-02-01 Thread Jay W.

 Any comments from e-gold people?

hi dmitry,
here are my comments:

adding a shopping cart interface on the phone side is a
doable thing - i guess the question is would people use it?
(pushing to get out the original e-gold SCI was probably
one of doug jacksons top 3 decisions ever wrt e-gold, and
it is so heavily used that i'm not going to underestimate the
phone analogue - consider the idea at least on the table)

getting people to do MD5 hashes could be a show stopper...with
respect to SMS gold...
...how about a service that provides SMSgrams? SMSgrams are unique
numbers sent via SMS. each SMSgrams message represents a fine weight
of gold.
users get SMSgrams online via web browser by spending e-gold to the
service using the e-gold SCI. they can then initiate SMS messages to their
phone from the service. the service also accepts SMS messages at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
if you have SMSgrams on your phone you can cash them out by sending them
to that address. it looks at the sender and uses the e-gold automation interface
to spend to the associated SMSgram users account. you can also just forward
SMSgrams to your friends whereupon they could cash them out or keep them
handy. (maybe there would be a [EMAIL PROTECTED] SMS address to stash your
SMSgrams without cashing them out so that the orignal sender couldn't just
cash it before you.)
the service keeps track of the outstanding SMSgrams and knows which ones have
been cashed. it performs all the double-spend logic associated with copyable
digital tokens. it has gold on hand backing all the outstanding SMSgrams.

anyway, thats a quick thought. somebody build it and i will use it :)

[e-gold-list] Re: Turing (ex) idea

2002-01-29 Thread Jay W.

hi jeff,

interesting idea -

my thoughts on an alternative to the turing number are that it needs
to provide around 1 out of 1 or higher odds against random guessing.
so a form with a drop down list would need to have 1 choices to provide
such. the 6 digit number e-gold uses provides around 1 out of a million
odds of guessing. some sites use distorted english words on a background -
this is probably superior from the random guess angle but may be more prone
to user mis-entry.

maybe a way to do your drop down would be to have javascripted heirarchical
menu selection similar to e-bay category selection.
animal/plant/mineral -
dog/cat/aardvark/snail
cactus/oak/fern
pebble/rebar/engine
etc. to arrive at 1 incorrect selections.

also some possibilites having to do with persistence of human vision,
and animation are possible...

how about using i ching hexagrams, or selecting the most likely composer
of a .wav motif or painter of a few displayed stroke. yeah, right. :)

jay w.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Okay, so I bit off more then I can chew :) My main idea was to have a
small image (cat, dog, sock, tree) and then people select what it is
from a pop up menu. That's user friendly, but you still have to

2001-11-29 Thread Jay W.

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

hi gustavs,

The PAYMENT_URL only lets the viewer see the page/URL the
customer will be directed to upon e-gold payment completion.

Normally one would use a CGI/ASP type page at that URL to respond to the
customer. That page will only provide goods to the customer if it was
also aware of an authentic notification directly from the e-gold system.
That notification is directed to the STATUS_URL input value. The notification
message includes a V2_HASH field that can be checked for validity - you could
also pull up the transaction by unique PAYMENT_ID in the payee's e-gold account
history.

The PAYMENT_URL, upon waiting for a signal (possibly in the form of a file or
database update) from the STATUS_URL CGI, could then provide the customer with
a temporary URL to access their digital goods, or would possibly email the goods
to the customer.

If you are unable to host CGIs at your web host, you can't fully automate secure
delivery of digital goods. You can still make it a little tricky to get directly to
your digital goods using an obfuscation method demonstrated at:

http://www.e-gold.com/samplestore/samplestore.html

If you'd like coding help with the e-gold SCI notification and it's V2_HASH
verification, you can email [EMAIL PROTECTED], or post on the e-gold tech

Were you spending in grams, USD, etc... anything not oz.? The

though i haven't messed with that particular item.

what you fill find is that there are a variety of standards
involved in smartcard usage in this area. Microsoft products
like to use something called CryptoAPI. Netscape supports PKCS 11
for similar functions. these are the APIs that the software part
of your smartcard solution needs to support in order for your browser
to talk to the smartcard and use it as a client certificate store.
you will also see mention of other specifications relating to
smartcards and APIs - OpenCARD, JavaCard, PC/SC. i think it is fair
to say that the abundance of specifications has slowed acceptance of
smartcards.

[e-gold-list] Re: [e-gold-tech] Verifiy the site hitting you is www.e-gold.com ???

2001-04-14 Thread Jay W.

hi gary,

the exact logic depends on the language you are programming in,
the architecture of your application, your database tables etc...

in an ASP/pseudocode you might do something like:

0. see if the request is coming from an e-gold box:
if InStr(Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR"), "206.102.213.")
Then Keep on Trucking, that's an e-gold.com IP address

1. check to see if expected fields are present (line wrapped for readability)
if Request("PAYEE_ACCOUNT") ""
and Request("PAYMENT_AMOUNT") ""
and Request("PAYMENT_UNITS") ""
and Request("PAYMENT_METAL_ID") ""
and Request("PAYMENT_BATCH_NUM") ""
and Request("PAYER_ACCOUNT") ""
and Request("PAYMENT_ID") ""
and Len(Request("V2_HASH")) = 32
then Keep On Trucking, Fields Present

2. compute and check the MD5 hash for a match
checkstring = Request("PAYMENT_ID")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYEE_ACCOUNT")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYMENT_AMOUNT")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYMENT_UNITS")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYMENT_METAL_ID")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYMENT_BATCH_NUM")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  Request("PAYER_ACCOUNT")  ":"
checkstring = checkstring  "AABBCCDDEEFF1122334455667788"  ' (your merchant
passphrase hash)
ComputedHash = CalculateMD5HashFunction(checkstring)
ExpectedHash = Request("V2_HASH")
if ComputedHash = ExpectedHash then Keep On Trucking, Hash is good

3. depending on your application, at this point you could check for the existence of a
pending transaction you are waiting for payment notification on...
query pending transactions from database for match with PAYMENT_ID,
PAYMENT_AMOUNT, etc.
if yes, continue on and process this transaction as being paid.

that's the general idea, there are different and better ways to do each step for
a specific language/application.

[e-gold-list] OmniPay (www.omnipay.net) SSL certificate update

2001-02-16 Thread Jay W.

after a longer than expected delay, the OmniPay web

verisign SSL authenticity link:
https://digitalid.verisign.com/as2/393e3efd0b4f053e88903b7fe90daf70

this is an SGC (i.e. step-up) certificate so most everyone should

[e-gold-list] Re: New Tracking Numbers

2001-02-01 Thread Jay W.

hello craig,

re:omnipay tracking numbers

the only downside to that simpler approach is that people could
easily guess valid exchange operations and get a general idea of
what activity other accounts are performing. with an unpredictable
tracking number, that becomes nigh on impossible. hopefully most of
the time you click the tracking link, or cut and paste the number.
i guess it could be shorter than it currently is, or have separators
(space, hyphen etc).
anyone else have an opinion on tracking numbers?

jay w.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Your Tracking Numbers are GREAT idea. However, they're impossible to type
in. Wouldn't it be easier just to type in the batch number and the e-gold
 account number?

[e-gold-list] Re: more stats!

2001-01-06 Thread Jay W.

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

yes you are correct jp - 60,766 in your example would be accounts
that have at least *some* (i.e. non-zero) gold in them. the stats
page also gives an idea of how many accounts have nothing in them -
as we
know the total number of accounts (136,259 at this instant) and
a bottom limit on funded accounts (60,780 at this instant) leaving
75,479
maximum with no e-metal in them. (the exact actual number of accounts
with
any type of e-metal at all at this instant is 61,441 which is not
possible
to tell from the data on the stats page.) 3,923 accounts have more
than
one type of e-metal in them, which i think means there are 661
accounts
that have no e-gold but some of another e-metal type in them.
jay w.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Guys where it says "Balance Distribution of Funded Accounts", does
that mean that DOES NOT INCLUDE accounts with 0. balance?

Thus, number of funded accounts 60,766 means 60,766 with AT LEAST
 SOME e-gold in them?

 Let us know!

Suggest where it says "0 - 1 oz." it should read "under one ounce",
because "0 - 1 oz" suggests that includes accounts that are totally
empty (which would be quite different)

 e-gold at FC99

After the conference cryptographer Ian Goldberg, who ported
SSL (secure sockets layer) encryption to the 3com "Palm

i used proxinet on my pilot to do a spend once - it wasn't
pretty to look at html formatting wise, but it did work. if
you can get a wap/hdml/wml browser *that does SSL* for the

maybe one of these will do the trick:

hi all,
as much as we'd like to encourage developers to utilize
e-gold, in this case e-gold account holders should follow
the passphrase guidelines displayed on the login page:
https://www.e-gold.com/acct/login.html
specifically:

"Only enter your passphrase on the www.e-gold.com web site.
Do not reveal your passphrase to any other web site or individual."

how do you know you're on the e-gold web site?
check the location bar in your browser to verify the content begins
with:
https://www.e-gold.com/
check the certificate details if you'd really like to be sure:
netscape: click lock icon at bottom of page border, then choose view
certificate
ie: double click lock icon at bottom of page, the choose details tab

the e-gold certificate serial number is:
3FE4 88F7 342F 20AC E980 A0C3 DEEE 4F85

and is issued by:
"Secure Server Certification Authority RSA Data Security, Inc. US"

also your browser should not present you with any warnings about the
certificate.

if those conditions are not met, *do not* enter your passphrase.
