[Elecraft] KSB2
G'day, Currently in the process of building a second KSB2 module for #1400 so that I can do various mods to the original. Having reached the stage of installing the crystals I pondered the desirability and possibility of grounding the cases lower down as is now normal for the basic CW filter. This is easily done if the following sequence is employed: Instead of fitting all the crystals in one go: a) X4, then a short grounding wire about 1/3 of the way up the face of X4 b) X3, then a short grounding wire about 1/3 of the way up the corner of X3 c) X5, as for X3 d) X1 X2. Curl the grounding wire across the edges of the crystals about 1/3 of the way up e) X6 X7, as for X1 X2 above. For the last two it is necessary to be careful not to toast C23. I have a picture of the result if anyone is interested. Maybe the N0SS web site if this method is thought useful. Not completed the module yet so no Spectrogram plot. Hello Rod, I'm coming up to Ft. Collins to help my CSU student daughter bring some things home to Denver for the holiday break. I could stop by and pick up the PCB material on Sunday sometime in the afternoon if that's OK. I need some large sheets of PCB material to make some tuning capacitors for my experimental magnetic loop antenna projects. This would be a good excuse to meet you, too. 73, Gus Hansen / KB0YH ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] Samlex SEC-1223 12VDC Switching P/S - RFI Reduction
Hi Tom, just would like to thank You very much for Your (and Nigel's) very valuable information You have put on Your web site. I stumbled on the birdies on 160/80 some time ago on a fieldday and was thinking about looking into the circuits one day. But the birdies are just S3-5 here. Just to add a few notes: I added a hard DC connection from the negative output to chassis/ground. This was done because modern 12 V rigs do not have any chassis ground connection when using symmetrical antennas (dipoles) and those ground isolated PS. This makes the rig chassis and coax braid eventually floating on unknown voltages. I observed this on several field setups, especially when using vertical antennas. The protective ground of Your mains may not be a good RF grounding, though. But it prevents static charge up of Your chassis (and the connected operator) via the coax braid. I also added a surge arrestor to the 13.8 V output of the PS. One day on the field there was a thunderstorm around, but it was still some miles distant. But a surge came via the mains line killing not the Samlex PS but the TR switch in my K2! Fieldday over. The only destroyed part was the 1500 V rated ZVN4424A! Ouch. After christmas I will add the ferrite beads ... Have a good time. VY 73 de Marcus, DL1EKC ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] Ain't there no ragchewin' goin' on?
I had a recent QSO (14 Nov) that went 70 minutes. It's easy when the other op has lots of common interests. A K2 owner, no less, but running his Omni that night for some reason I don't remember. We both soar, fly instruments, play radio, and several other things in common I don't remember (I guess that Old Timers disease is catching up to me - this was only a month ago). My log shows 21:37 to 22:47. Don's card (K5KW) shows only 22:00. So, I guess we qualify (although Don was on his Omni VI+ that evening). Anyhow, the QSL card went out a while ago and I didn't think to copy it. There's ragchewin' going on, just not getting sent to you! [Elecraft] MD2 vs. TT 705 Microphone
I currently have a Ten Tec 705 Microphone that I use with my K2, but am considering ordering the MD2 before the sale pricing is over. How does the sound quality of these two microphones compare? How are the ergonomics of the MD2? I currently use the PTT button in the base of the 705. Is the PTT button on the body of the MD2 convenient when the microphone is in a desk stand? I like the coiled cord on the 705. Does the straight cord on the MD2 get in the way? [Elecraft] K2 click on unmute
I am hearing a click in my 'phones or speaker when the K2/100 unmutes in CW mode. It is: 1) Strongest on 160 and 80 meters. 2) Only present when the DSP is on (switching to bypass makes it go away). 3) Only present when the KPA100 is on (same strength from 11-100 watts -- gone at 10 watts). 4) The same when transmitting into a dummmy load and an antenna. Good Evening, The Christmas Ships on the Willamette River were very nice this evening in downtown Portland. We used the Marine Band channel 68 to find them and follow their routines. They were quite excited about showing off their ships to the crowds. It is the 50th running of these colorful ships. The solar news is we are in another stream of ions but I have not had a chance to listen to its effects. Hopefully we will be able to work a few of you from around the continent. Re: [Elecraft] K2 click on unmute
Hello Vic! I am hearing a click in my 'phones or speaker when the K2/100 unmutes in CW mode. There was a mod for this when the DSP is on. It may be that your unit is on the edge and the KPA100 being active pushes the timing slightly. You might look at the Unofficial Elecraft Mods page for details. 73, Lyle KK7P ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
