I found this new card, PCI-express, from AVerMedia, Game Broadcaster HD. See http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Upload/ProductImages/C127+Datasheet1202.pdf They have stated US availability as late December 2011/January 2012 and the unofficial pricing is $170. Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA signal as a separate window with VGA2USB?
Now that is an interesting idea Jan. I would indeed be interested in streaming the P3 video as there are times several of us in training nets are trying to describe to another ham how their signal looks. [Elecraft] [K3] Antenna confusion
The good news is that I'm close to having a second TX/RX antenna (hexbeam) to add to my dipole and a K9AY RX antenna mainly for 80/160 but also for whatever diversity uses I can get when using the main antennas. I have KAT3 and KXV3a. The bad news is I'm a bit confused and could use some help/review. My dipole is switchable between dipole (20m-40m) and a hatted vertical configuration (80, 160). The hexbeam is for 20-6m. My plan is to have the dipole connected to ANT1 and the HB connected to ANT2. The dipole has a remote tuner so the coax from the tuner to the shack is always ~1:1 SWR. From repeated readings of the K3 manual, ANT1/2 for main selects the TX ANT always. It also selects the receiving ant for the main *unless* RX is selected in which case the main receiver would listen to my K9AY connected to that jack. So selecting ANT1 for dipole and RX would be the setup for 80/160. Now if I want diversity I want the K9AY to feed the subrx while the main gets either dipole or HB. For this it looks like I need to move the antenna connection on the rear panel to the AUX RF input. I'd only be using diversity on 40-10 since both my 80/160 and K9AY are both vertically polarized. I didn't see a way to have a RX ant and diversity without moving the BNC antenna among the back panel AUX and RX connectors. Do I have this right? Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Antenna confusion
As a followup it looks like I could add a relay driven by DIGOUT1 to do the AUX/RX coax switching. Is that correct? [Elecraft] Feature Wishlist...
The other day I was reminded that I do not like the LED light display that is on the W2 meter and also the KPA500 (although, I do not yet have a KPA500). Although the LED lights have not persuaded me NOT to purchase a KPA500, it would be nice if Elecraft could experiment with other kinds of interfaces such as the K3 display methods. I have an Icom PW-1 amplifier and one thing I really like about it is that it has a remote control head. This big hunking amp sits on the floor out of the way and only this little control head is in front of me on the desk. I wonder how much difficult it would be to add a K3 type display to a KPA500. Maybe this would be called a KPA500X or whatever. Also, although I have an LPA100A SWR meter, it seems that Elecraft might come out with a competing product, a quality and accurate SWR meter using a K3 type display interface (or, LPA100A like). 73, phil, K7PEH __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Antenna confusion
As a followup it looks like I could add a relay driven by DIGOUT1 to do the AUX/RX coax switching. Is that correct? Why bother? The K9AY is designed as a low noise (directive, noise reducing) antenna for 160-40 meters. It us not likely to provide any advantage - even as a diversity antenna - on the high bands (20-10). Rather than dealing with a relay and external programming, simply build a splitter (http://cliftonlaboratories.com/z10050a_3_db_hybrid.htm) and connect outputs to both the RX Ant and Aux jacks. 73, ... [Elecraft] K3 - alarm on amp with RTTY
I have a K3 driving an Acom 2000A. Using AXETTY (MMTTY) on RTTY. If I am using SSB or CW I have no amp alarm issues. I use QSK all the time with QRQ ON and have no alarm issues ever. However when on RTTY (FSK) about once in every 8 transmits I get an alarm on my amp at the end of the transmission - Ant Relay Closed, It Should Be Open. This is interesting because the alarm happens only when the amp and K3 are switching from transmit to receive. I am not sure if I should be focusing on the software. But figured I would see if there is something in the K3 firmware that adjusts the time from transmit to receive. Maybe I am still putting out RF when the amp is trying to switch to receive? Maybe something in AXETTY/MMTTY that can help this? When I get some time I plan on replacing the input and output relays in the Acom, just in case. They are the original relays in this 12 year old amp. It is such a pain to haul down the amp. I have a shelf hung from the basement ceiling which holds the amp right below my shack. I only have the RCU in the shack. Now where is that KPA1500? Thanks for any advice. 73, N2TK, Tony __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Phil; You might want to take a good look at the KPA500 manual. What you want is already in place for the KPA500. You want to see the output power or SWR in a digital form? Just tap or hold the PWR button. Need a remote control for the KPA? Your PC should do very well running the appropriate software. To expand on this- A version of the P3 without its built-in display, but using an external monitor would be more transportable, and if it could be put into the KAT500 box (who knows how much space might be available inside the enclosure), then it really would be very transportable. Re: [Elecraft] P3 - Display of frequency scale lines/markings?
I have to agree. At least put values on the hash marks that change with the span width (from center) so I don't have to compute them mentally with each span setting? Yes, it seems trivial, but it would sure be a nice feature to say (without mental computations) There is a clear spot, up 5.2 KHz, let's move there. It would also make it easier to explain to another station that they are X.y KHz wide, or that their IMD is XX db at X.y wide etc. The current alternative is to email them an image, which is a little clunky. [Elecraft] K3 RF Gain control reduced range after RF gain calibration
This is strange. In an effort to better align the P3's idea of signal strength with that of the K3's, I performed the K3 RF Gain Calibration, then the S-meter calibration and finally the P3 level calibration. I did the calibrations at 7040 kHz using a service monitor as the signal source for 50 uV and 1 uV sources following the procedures in the manuals. This evening after tuning to 75m for the section nets, I set the RF Gain control to its usual 2 O'clock setting and realized the background noise was still quite pronounced. I found that I have to turn the RF Gain control to between 9 and 10 O'clock to reduce the noise as before at 2 O'clock. Also, the S-meter level no longer reflects the change as the RF Gain is reduced. Before putting the RF Gain control fully CCW resulted in the S-meter reading full scale (changine the S-meter mode to NOR or ABS and resetting the calibration values had any effect). Switching to a dummy load reveals that as the RF control is reduced that the S-meter bars light to about S4 and no higher regardless of how far CCW the knob is turned. I've also noticed that with the control fully CCW that the receiver is not completely muted (I think it was before, but not sure). I did goof on the first run through the RF Gain calibration by having the control reduced slightly--around 4 O'clock--and not fully CW as stated in the manual. Yup, my error from being in a hurry. I realized the mistake and ran the routine again with the RF Gain control fully CW. I used the Linux K3 utility 1.4.1.8 and had the P3 inline and on while I performed the calibration. Was having the P3 on at the same time a mistake? I also reloaded all of the firmware--MCU 4.39, FPF 1.14 and DSP1 2.73 with no change in behavior. Re: [Elecraft] Feature Wishlist...
Jack, for the W2, I notice the RS232 command set lacks something like the AI1; mode of the K2 and K3. Having an auto-info mode would mean a remote program wouldn't need to poll; the W2 itself ought to know when something interesting happens. [Elecraft] Internal speaker issue
After resetting the K3 due to another issue my internal speaker is now still on while transmitting SSB. This produces an echo effect and if the mic is close enough, feedback. Is there a easy fix to this? Re: [Elecraft] K3 RF Gain control reduced range after RF gain calibration
Well, I think I solved the issue. I reset the RF Gain back to factory defaults with the K3 utility and then set the S-meter to NOR and SMTR OF and SC to the factory defaults. It appears the RF Gain is back to normal. Perhaps it's best to leave this stuff well enough alone! 73, de Nate N0NB -- The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. [Elecraft] FS 7.2 A/h gel-cells
Hello, I have 2 gel-cels for sale: $50 for both together; you ship. Bought in August, don't need, they're collecting dust in the shop. Harris Professional Plus: LP 12-7.0 (12V, 7.2 A/h) has both tab connectors on one end. They're too big for inside the K2, but each would run the K2 for hours. Reply off list please. Happy holidays! Re: [Elecraft] It's ALIVE!!! ...And a quick alignment question...
Hello David, Great news on your K2. I just finished mine a couple of months ago with a couple of minor problems which I needed help getting fixed. I just got it back earlier this month and have been having a lot of fun with this great little rig. I was tuning around 10 meters and heard a station calling CQ so I gave him a call. To my surprise he was in Croatia, 4400 miles from my QTH. So needless to say it was quite exciting. I can't help with the alignment but there are lots of folks on this reflector that can. 73's Ed KE7HGA -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/It-s-ALIVE-And-a-quick-alignment-question-tp7084543p7114106.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] 43 years of 73 Magazine, 22 years of Ham Radio Magazine online as free pdf files
Thanks John! Ham Radio Magazine was my favorite Homebrewer's journal throughout its years of publication. And for many Hams today who want to understand a little more about electronics and the various basic building blocks in our rigs today, it's still timely today. For example the excellent article Basic Electronic Units in the October '68 issue. Like QST of the 50's and 60's, if the circuit was published in Ham Radio, you could depend upon it to work. That's something lacking so often in the mags today, even QST. 73, Ron AC7AC -Original Message- Subject: [Elecraft] 43 years of 73 Magazine, 22 years of Ham Radio Magazine online as free pdf files Pardon the OT post - some here may be interested: John AE5X http://www.ae5x.com/blog __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
