Hi Bill,I have a Remote Rig RRC-1258MkIIs for Elecraft K3 Twin setup that I

Subject: [Elecraft] RemoteRig distributors in USA?

I recently obtained a second K3 and now I’m curious about remote operating my
home station K3. The RemoteRig RRC-1258MkII seems like a good solution, but I’m
having trouble finding anyone who carries it in the USA.

Elecraft used to sell, as well as HRO, but neither list this product.

Suggestions?

Re: [Elecraft] D-104 Mic Element Replacement

2022-02-22 Thread Tim Tucker
In the original post, he stated that he specifically did not want an
electret element, has found the dynamic replacements and is not interested,
but wants a crystal element replacement. Most of the links offered do not
offer what he is looking for. So I stand by my original statement with the
following qualifier: There are probably some old stock or salvage crystal
elements out there somewhere, but good luck finding them.

Heil HC4/HC5 elements were discontinued many years ago. I believe that DX

Re: [Elecraft] D-104 Mic Element Replacement

2022-02-22 Thread Don Wilhelm

I have used electric elements in the D104 and they worked quite well.
If you want a dynamic element, I suggest the HC4 or HC5 from Heil
Sound.  I don't know if Heil is still selling those mic elements
separately, but they do work well in the D104 (and other mics). Just add
enough foam padding to keep the element in place and you are done.
I have a D104 frame with an HC5 element and it works quite well. I also

The Shure 444 and other of their mics with numbers in that series have a
similar response, specifically tailored for SSB. Shure has always had
some hams working in engineering, including some who were top contesters
around the time this mic was designed. They're one of the great mic

Re: [Elecraft] KX2s

2022-02-22 Thread Mike Smith VE9AA
You’re very welcome James.

Just one more thing…..To be clear….I have to be very honest and say, I am not
sure mine shipping w/o a mic was normal, a mistake, an oversight, or what,
because when I looked at the included packing slip, there was no mention of a
mic, or even a missing mic, but when I contacted Elecraft they were quick and
polite to reply and told me the mic would ship when back in stock.

It would’ve been “nice” to have a note (even in an email would’ve been OK) that
said something like:

“…We don’t want to hold up your order any longer. We know your mic is missing,
it’ll ship when in stock….”

(or even a line item on the packing slip that showed a mic backordered or not
in stock “will ship” or whatever.)

Instead of me having to wonder if the KX2 shack-in-a-box has a mic included and
then me following up with them a little bit for it.

In my line of work, and life, I like to keep people informed. (we ARE
communicators, right?) Might be a very small thing and I wouldn’t be so rude as
to call it a “fail” on Elecrafts’ part, but it’s certainly something that
could’ve been handled just a little bit better. If I had really NEEDED a hand
mic (for whatever reason) I might’ve been a little bit irked.

As it is, the rig is for my motorcycle. Mid Feb in NB, Canada, the only thing
moving here is a snowblower and motorcycle weather is months away, so I am not
bothered by this, especially where Wayne emailed me directly promising me a mic
when they arrived.

Cheers and have a great weekend as well. I’ll be in the ARRL DX as a Single
Band 15m HP, looking (of course) for DX stations !

Mike, you confirmed what I had been wondering about.. and it sounds like the
radio will ship without the mic which is just awesome to hear!

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear things are still rolling out the door at
whatever pace they can get the parts in.

Have a great weekend all, and GL in WPX if you are participating!

Re: [Elecraft] 80-meter Antenna Fun

2022-02-22 Thread RC

Highly recommend 80 meter full wave loops...

I have a full wave 80 meter 3 sided loop fed with ladder line and my
KPA500/KAT500 tunes it from 80-10 meters including the WARC bands.  It
has been up about three years and I have worked all states on 9 bands
and DXCC on 5 bands.

Re: [Elecraft] Multi-Device mouse and keyboard

2022-02-22 Thread Jack Brindle via Elecraft
As you noted, you will need two Unifying receivers - one for the K4 and the
other for the PC. Be sure to pair both devices (mouse and keyboard) with both
receivers - it is probably best to have channel one set to one receiver, and
channel two to the other on both keyboard and mouse.
After that you will need to switch both the keyboard and the mouse individually
between the two receivers. The K780 uses the F1, F2 and F3 keys to select its
current channel. Hold them a while to select the channel you want. Use the
“easy-switch” button to change channels on the mouse.

You might want to install the Options software on your PC to add functionality
to your devices. It won’t run on the K4, of course.

If you have any questions, just ask. Yes, there are hams at Logitech, at least
a few of us…

[Elecraft] FS: KX2 Shack-In-A-Box with Lots of Extras

2022-02-22 Thread Nate Jedinak
Hello, all!

Planning to list this on QRZ but thought I'd offer it here first.
Everything you need for SOTA, POTA, Digi Modes. Open the box, and get
started at home or afield!

I've had great luck with this KX2, just not going to be using it much this
year so I'd like it to go to someone who will. The only issue I've ever
had was noting that on 10M, SSB power would start low and ramp up. I sent
it back to Elecraft and they noted this is a software "feature" and no
problem existed. However, it was also updated to most recent spec at that
time and re-calibrated. A few light signs of use on the transceiver and
accessories, but operationally as new.

Elecraft KX2 #757
Back at factory 4/2021 for updating and calibration (harmonic suppression
kit installed, C83/C98 caps updated, brought up to revision A7 from A1).
Includes:
KXPD2 Paddle
KXAT2 Internal ATU
KXIO2 Real Time Clock
2x KXBT2 Battery Packs
KXBC2 Charger
Quick Release Ground Plug
MH3 mic
LowePro Case
AX1 Antenna with extra AX1E 40M extension and AXB1 Bipod
BNC-BP for random-wire antennas
SideKX heatsink, SideKX protective cover
QRPWorks K-Board with keyboard
Easy Digi for KX2
KXUSB Cable

$2200 total value, for $1325 shipped. Please email me directly with
questions or to make a purchase. I will not split up the bundle, no
trades. Thank you!

Re: [Elecraft] K4 to KPA500?

2022-02-22 Thread Rick Bates, NK7I
Which antenna port on the KPA1500 are you using? Port 2 is disconnected
at power off.

That's one small nit with the amp, the antenna switch and tuner are on
the same power source as the amp; all or nothing.  It takes getting used
to, after being familiar with the KPA500/KAT500 combo.

[Elecraft] D-104 Mic Element Replacement

2022-02-22 Thread Wilson Lamb via Elecraft

OK, discriminating operators, does anyone know of a good replacement D-104
element.
Yes, I have been on the web and see dynamic and electret replacements.  My uses
don't involve electret empowered radios.
I also see statements that all the ceramic replacements have been sold, but I
hold out hope.
Does anyone know of a good ceramic element?
Does anyone know if the dynamic/transformer replacement is near the same
sensitivity as the original crystal?
I have three D-104, one of which was my dad's, from the 540s.  It's lost its
midrange.
Thanks,
