[Elecraft] [ELECRAFT] K2 : Analog S-meter considerations.
Hi K2-members; I do have successfully build a K2/100,but now I like to do some experiments with a analog S-meter device temporary in place of the standard K2 LED device. Could someone give me some suggestions where I best, could pickup this 2 wire S-meter signal for my analog indication device. Personally I really prefer a analog reading and indication in place of a LED device ! I like to do some comparing around the both devices . I look forward to your suggestions and maby some experiences around ? Kindly regards Jean ON4AEF. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] CW tuning indicator build-in into right S-meter bar of K2 transceiver.
Hi Don; Good morning, still on factory hier (nucleair powerplant near harbor of Antwerp) I read a lot about, but do not found any documentation around, how to build of modify this right led bar of th eK2 unit unit into a visible indicator for the CW tuning aid ! I like to obtain this modification in place of drill some holes in the frontpanel of the beautiful K2 !! Do you now about, that there circulate some documentation around how to fix this inside the K2 frontpanel PCB I have done some chearches on the Elecraft website also, but nothing found till now .. Maby you have some suggestions where to find,or maby you have locally a little doc on the desk hi .. About Elecraft K2/100 himself I build, till today very very satisfied about, great rig with a lot of bells . Kindly regards Jean ON4AEF. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] KAT100 tuner.
Hi other K2 - KAT 100 owners/builders . Concerning the allignement of the SWR of the KAT 100 unit with use of C31(SWR setup allign). I only could obtain a critical minimum voltage value of 42mVDC on my DMM at pin 3 of the U5 chip in this tuner unit. Does, some other guys have also those results obtained,or could this result be mutch better. I case of,how to obtain, has it something to see with a wrong of faulty component ? I already have take a closely look, but could not seen any fault or mis mount of any component !!! Behind this obtained value the KPA100 tuner works great for now.. But this is a question of optimalization.. [Elecraft] [K2] : Swapping frequencys between VFO's A and B
Hi K2 users; I do found next K2-software stage ? The K2 VFO memory does'nt take next two different VFO settings (example of two different band settings) VFO A = 20M and VFO B = 17M In this situation when we switch back to the other VFO,this switched VFO also take the VFO frequency from the VFO where you coming from in last button push ?? You not can put in VFO A a 17M frequency, and in the other VFO B,by example a 20M frequency. They both always take the originaly frequency from one band where you coming from ?? One of the two different band frequencys will not stay into the memory ? I presume this has a particular Elecraft reason hi .. [Elecraft] [K2] :Transmitter allignement (40M): Power control failure ....
Hi K2 builders; I just have finished with the build of my K2 CW/SSB base 10W vesion. Before I will continue with the build-in my KPA100 unit I will do a whole K2 transmitter final allignement. I already have done a receiver allignement so the band coils should be quit in the naber for maximum power output.. I do have set my CAL CUR to 3.5A (like manuals told) I start with the allignement of the 40M band coils (see K2 manual page 78). A dummy of 50 ohm/1Kw with in series a power meter (Daiwa CN620A) is connected at the anteen output(BNC connector of K2). I do have set my power control to 2.0 W like manual tolds. I put the K2 in TUNE mode and read easely about 20W on my power meter installed between K2 and 50 ohm dummy load. I do always receive a high current warning message (with is normal with a power output of 20W current reading is about 4A an dmore ) But I can do any POWER control adjustement while turning on the power control potmeter on the frontpanel. When I am in the receive mode and turning on this power control I can change de LCD reading from P 0.1W to P 15.2 W So I presume the software is working well ? With the power control set to P 5W I obtain a current on LCD display of about 4.5A (and a HI Cur message) The voltage reading on the K2 LCD fluctuate from 7.0 VDC to 9.0 VDC But this indication is not a power supply failure because I measure the output voltage on the connector of the power supply with a Fluke DMM and this voltage stays stady around +13VDC !!! So power more than enough but no control so far ... ? Did should I ear a CW keying tone when I am in TUNE mode,I do ear nothing while I am tuning ... I am in CW normal mode with no PRE activated... Voltage and curren readings in RX are next values : E12.7 i0.24 Any suggestions what could be the reason. I do have same sympthome on other bands also, always 20W and no power control ? [Elecraft] K2 S-meter calibration (CW-CWRV-USB-LSB) ?
Hi K2 builders; I do have calibrate my S-meter following exactly what is tell in the building manual. I do have done this allignement CW normal mode. What I see while switching between CW reverse and USB and LSB mode is that the right led indication does not indicate most right on other modes ??? I see a little difference in S-meter indicaton bewteen CW normal and the 3 other modes ?? The S-meter indicaton is dropping one led from right. The most right led indication is done with RF control fully counter clockwise of course. Is this normal,I do have allign my filters and BFO settings all correctly. Yes I now,I am talking about details now,and what I see while playing with my new toy hi. Next days I start to build my KPA100 unit. Great building kit for sure... [Elecraft] RF board RX on 40M
Hi K2 members; I do have assemble RF board part II starting at page 49 of manual I have done the allignement test (see my previous E-mail around the results) But I do only have noise from audio amp but do have no any receive sign's on 40M with antenne connected ? I do ear nothing around 7000.0 Mhz from internal generated signal ?? I do have some questions around jumper settings in this part of build(maby this could reason of no RX ?). After take a quick look on what I momentarly see on the RF board : J14 open not soldered yet J13 open not soldered yet J15 open not soldered yet W1 no jumper placed yet ? W2 jumper placed W3 jumper placed W5 jumper placed W6 no jumper placed yet ? I hope you could give me some small hints, must be a stupidy,I do have follow the building manual strictly ? [Elecraft] Mounting baclklight of K2
I K2 users I am busy to assembel my front panel control board. I am quit sure about how mounting the backpanel LCD light but I will be sure before soldering it into the PCB board. - I presume the K indication of the LCD backlight unit must be soldered into the + (plus) indication on the front panel of the PCB board ? - And the A indication of the LCD backlight unit must be soldered into the no indication on the frontpanel PCB board ? This is not clearly explained into the builders manual, but after some investigation the direction of the backlight does not play any rule, you could not mis allign this backlight unit into the frontpanel board. Every position brings the K connections of the backlight to the + connection on the PCB board !!! Re: [Elecraft] Mounting baclklight of K2
Hi K2 builders ... Thanks Alan I thought I could misplace this backlight in the PCB frontpanel board. But this is not possible, you could turn the backlight unit 180 degrees, but anode and kathode connections always stays the same hi hi !! I also found a lite transparant protection tape on the top side of the backlight unit witch I have fragil removed .. This is not described yet in manual also !!! If you forget to take a look on it,you could not removed it anymore once the LCD unit himself is installed !!! - Original Message - From: Alan Price To: Behiels JeanPierre Sent: Thursday, June 20, 2013 4:07 PM Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Mounting baclklight of K2 Jean: If I understand you question, the backlight can go in either direction. [Elecraft] Front panel assembly
Hi K2 builders; In the main build manual of the K2 they refere on page 29 to fill the leaved blank holes with components referering to the KSB2 unit page 16. Those are : - C4 to C8 0.01uF (103) - Q3 2N3906 - RP3 10K (partnumber 77083103) - R13 68K 1% But regarding at KSB2 parts inventory this RP3 should be a 2K resistor network 6 pins partnumber 77063202or 980663202. Installing instruction on page 16 of KSB2 tells this should be a 10K resistor newtwork 8 pins ?? This component in not in the bag of the KSB2 option ? All other supplementary components are found in the KSB2 bag ... Any explanation about ? [Elecraft] Elecraft [K2] : Power supply considerations.
Hi K2 members; I am building on a K2(100W) rig. I near future I will take the rig in use on holidays. I look for some compact power supply suggestions witch I can take easily in my luggage during holiday for this purpose. Has somebody any suggestions around, or some more useful information where I could obtain a available one for K2 100W use ? I think weight and dimensions are most important ? [Elecraft] LCD display of K2 changing in LED display
Hi K2 members.. Due the years of production of the K2 rig and witch I folow a lot of time Is there is nobody who had made the attention to change the LCD display readout into a LED display reading ?? Personally I think the readebillity of a LED display (by eaxmple for the K2 in geen ) looks even mutch more professional with the K2 witch this transceiver kit already is !! Of course my questin is are there some idees around from past or is there maby somebody who have already modified his K2 with a LED display in place of a LCD display ? I do not have mutch experience around but I am looking following days to order a full K2 kit and I like to now if sutch idee or arrangement is possible behind the K2 structure ? I prefer like the old Yeasu FT101ZD a red or green LED display, but of course this is a personal touch and is for every body different!! By reading some mechanical docs around elecraft K2 I think it must be possible to arrange some mechanical modifications in place of the room where the LCD plate exists now,by example with mini 7 segment displays who exists. I look forward about some idees of some members who already have been created around, and like to see how something could be fixed. If not I have to live with that old LCD idee of the K2 hi.. Don't mis understood the whole Elecraft K2 is a outstanding and qualified homebrew project of the top,but its only a possible suggestion. I do a lot of homebrew and nobodys tell that we could not or may give a good project a personal touch,if possible of course ? Thanks to all for possible replys around..
