[Elecraft] FOR SALE: Elecraft K3/100 160-6m Transceiver — KAT3 ATU—KPA100 Amplifier—XRX3 Subreceiver

2021-12-20 Thread Charles Tropp
Elecraft K3/100 160-6m Transceiver Serial #2502 with the standard 2.7 kHz
filter, the KAT3 Internal Auto Antenna Tuner, KPA100W Amplifier and XRX3
Subreceiver. The subreceiver is identical to the main receiver and has its
own 400Hz filter. It can tune the same range of frequencies as the main
receiver and is terrific at busting DX pileups.

   - This K3 also comes with lots of extras including:
   - Three (3) additional CW Filters: 700Hz, 400Hz and 250Hz for the utmost
   in selectivity.
   - KXV3A Interface Option which provides a separate receive antenna input
and output, an input and output for use with an external transverter, and a
buffered i.f. output. (Handy for adding an external Panadapter or SDR).
   - The K3 has been upgraded with the KSYN3A synthesizers in both the Main
and Subreceiver. The synthesizer produces cleaner synthesized signals
leading to better transmitter and receiver performance and has a better
switch time to improve TX/RX switching for high speed CW.
   - There is no internal sound card in this K3, but included in this
bundle is the TigerTronics Signal Link USB interface which adds an external
sound card and comes with the Elecraft connection cable and complete
documentation. Just what you need to work the new digital modes such as FT8.
   - You can connect a PC that has a serial port to download firmware and
software upgrades as well as to allow computer control of the K3 with your
favorite contest and general loggers. No serial port? No problem—I include
the original Elecraft KUSB Universal Serial Bus Adapter cable which allows
you to simply plug the K3 into an available USB port.
   - This K3 was upgraded, calibrated and aligned by the Elecraft Factory
in 2015 to meet or exceed all factory specifications.
   - The installation and operation manuals are included as well as all
   upgrade and repair documentation.
   - This unit is sold *AS IS *and subject to the following *caveat* which
may or may not be of concern to you: I am unable to get my Begali Single
Lever Paddle to work properly with the Elecraft Internal Keyer. I can only
send dits or dahs (depending on the menu option) but not both. In other
words one side of the paddle does not work. There may be a problem with the
paddle jack connection. I have always preferred to use either a straight
key or my external Winkeyer USB as it performs well with the software
programs that I use and it plugs directly into the Key Jack which works
   fine.

I am asking $1,695 for this package + Shipping via Priority US Mail to
CONUS.

[Elecraft] Why is my K3 off frequency?

2021-03-23 Thread Charles Tropp
Hi,
Last night my local ham club scheduled their first ever 6Meter Net and
Roundtable for 50.135Mz. I operate USB very rarely, preferring CW for all
of my Contesting and DX work. Last night the net control station advised me
that I was 12Hz too high and that he had to use his RIT control to tune to
me. When I turned on my XIT and transmitted down 12Hz I was right on his
frequency. This was confirmed by other callers as well. I have also heard
this problem mentioned in the past when checking into occasional 75M nets.
Is there an adjustment that I can or should make aside from using my XIT?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

[Elecraft] Configuration of N1MM with K3 RemoteRig

2019-05-04 Thread Charles Tropp
Hi,

I recently installed a private K3-Remote System using my existing K3 and
adding a K3/Ø Mini Control Panel. I have the RRIGSET and all required
cables installed. I have tested the system and it appears to work well as I
can both hear and control the remote radio and send CW on my straight key
plugged into the back of the K3/Ø.

I would like to add the N1MM contest program using windows 10 Lap Top
locally with a USB cable running from the USB socket on the front of the
RRC to my Lap Top. I have configured both RRCs COM1 to: “Mode-7 CAT to COM2
(local & remote)”. The serial setting for COM1 has been set “Use USB Com
Port as COM1” to YES. COM3 (extra) mode has been set to “Mode -8 Winkeyer”.

RRC 1258 Ø (COM 1)

RRC 1258 1(COM 11)

RRC 1258 2 (COM 12)

RRC 1258 3 COMExtra (COM 2)

So far I have been unable to configure N 1MM to communicate with my K3
remote. COM 11 doesn’t work and COM12 produces unsolicited and random CW
transmissions. COM2 make no difference. Interestingly, I can use my K3
remote with SKCCLogger with COM2. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.

Re: [Elecraft] Win4K3Suite ?

2019-03-17 Thread Charles Tropp
Hi Bob,

I just started using Win4K3 last August when I upgraded to a new computer
system. It also runs DXLab, N1MM, SKCCLoger, CW Skimmer and WJST. It
performs flawlessly. Just remember to turn on your K3 before you run
Win4K3. I love the macro feature since it is so easy to write, store and
change them. It has a nice sync with ClubLog although I prefer
SpotCollector. The K3 memories are right up front and easy to access. I
don't use too many of the controls as I got the program mainly for the
virtual ports. I am sure you will enjoy the program.

Hi Don,

On the home page of the new web site you might want to click on *Products,

List/Order *and when it turns Red click on the link. Then click on K2
Options on the next window, place a check mark next to the KIO2 line and
scroll down again and click on *add to cart. *In the next window press the
box in red marked *Checkout. *Follow the remaining instructions and your in
business. You will love the option, by the way. I just added one to my K2.

Re: [Elecraft] CW on ssbHello Everyone,

2014-09-16 Thread Charles Tropp via Elecraft
On the Configuration Menu go to CW WGHT SSB-CW. Tapping the 1 key
toggles between SSB+CW, which allows CW to be sent when in SSB Mode and
SSB-CW, which doesn't. The other station operating SSB will hear your
signal at the tone sent by your sidetone pitch.

Re: [Elecraft] N1MM setup help

2014-06-27 Thread Charles Tropp via Elecraft

Hi Kevin,

Setting up the K3 and the Winkeyer is actually pretty simple. Lets
assume that you have connected your K3 to your laptop on your serial
port. Let's also assume that you have connected your Winkeyer and that
it has passed the communication test. Now your serial port is probably
Com1. So open N1MM make sure you have the information and entry windows
open. Now click on Config at the top of the entry window. Then select
the very first line on the drop down menu called configure ports, mode
control, ports, other. This will open the rather intimidating
configurer window. Make sure the Hardware tab has been selected. Look
at the first column, do you see Com1 on the left? Now click the little
down arrow on that line and select the Elecraft K3 from the list that
opens. Now push the set button on the right hand side. All the
suggested Elecraft K3 settings have already been set for you. Just press
OK down at the bottom. Now select the Winkey tab. Again, the settings
have already been selected for you. Click OK at the bottom. When you do
you will see the Winkey version appear on the Information window. Voila!
You should be in business.

Re: [Elecraft] N1MM setup help

2014-06-27 Thread Charles Tropp via Elecraft
Yes, sometimes, trial and error works the best Kevin. Setting up for
field day is also very simple. First open N1MM and make sure you are at
the entry window. Now click File at the top. Click on new database
on the menu that opens. For a file name I would suggest ARRL Field
Day. Now click save. Go back to File and in the menu that opens select
the first line new log in data base. In the window that opens, up at
the top push down on the little down arrow and scroll through the
alphabetical list until you see FD. Click on that entry. Now in the
contest tab below look at all the pre-filled entries to see if they
match your proposed operation. You can explore each by clicking on the
little drop down arrow. My entries in the order listed are: Single-Op,
All, Low, CW, (N/A overlay), Fixed, Assisted, One. You may wish to
consult the rules to see what applies to you. Just press the button to
the right labeled Show Rules. Now your sent exchange should be filled
in according to the class of station that you have and your ARRL
section. The example already filled in may already have your section but
not your class. Now click on the tab called Associated Files. The
first line refers to the Master.DTA Filename. It should be Master.DTA.
Make sure you have the latest version installed on your computer. To
check, close out the open window by clicking on OK at the bottom. Now to
to the tab Tools on the entry window and select download latest check
partial file. Follow the instructions on the website to download and
install the latest file. While you're at it also _download_ and _import_
the latest Country File in the Tools menu. One last thing and we're
done. Open the N1MM website and click on the Files Tab. On the menu
that opens select sample function key files. Then click on the CW keys.

Re: [Elecraft] N1MM setup help

2014-06-27 Thread Charles Tropp via Elecraft
Sorry Kevin, I pressed send before I was quite done. In the CW keys
right click on the one that reads FD-CW.mc. Download that file and save
it to your N1MM directory. Now go back to the entry window, select file,
open log in database, associated files, and in the CW function key
filename line, click Change in the far right and find the sample
function key file that you just downloaded. Click open when you find it.
Then OK to close out the open window. Take a look at your entry window,
see if the function keys are to your liking. If now they can be edited
by going to Configure, change CW function key definitions. An editor
will open and you can make the changes directly. Save the file and you
are in business. I am sorry this took so long to explain, but it is much
easier done than written about. With experience you will become a pro.
If you have specific questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I am
about done for the night but I'll be back early tomorrow. Hope to wrk
you in FD. CUL.

Re: [Elecraft] Activity in ancient 15-meter novice band (21.1 MHz)

2014-05-27 Thread Charles Tropp via Elecraft

Hello Joshua,

By all means, learn CW. It is never too late. I was QRT for 25 years and
had to learn the Code from scratch. You can learn all the letters in 6
weeks practicing for 15 minutes per day. In another 5-7 weeks you'll
absorb the punctuation and numbers. There are plenty of resources
available on the Straight Key Century Club web site.
http://www.skccgroup.com/ Our club has grown to more than 12,000 members
since it was founded in 2006. There are monthly sprints and weekend
operating events. Since everybody uses only straight keys or bugs, QRS
is the order of the day. Give a listen tonight at Z on the following
frequencies:
*160 m, 1820 kHz* *80 m, 3550 kHz* *40 m, 7055 / 7114 kHz* *20 m,
14050 kHz*

*15 m, 21050 kHz* *10 m, 28050 kHz* *6 m, 50090 kHz*

Get in touch if you have any questions.

don't go out of our way to work them, they will -- and many probably
already have -- go back to phone or just give up after endless unanswered
CQs or endless searches for a QRS CQ.

I operate about 50% QRQ with an iambic paddle and about 50% QRS with a
straight key, usually seeking QRS CQs or sending a QRS CQ at 7050 to 7065
or 7100-7125.

Operating QRS has advantages. With the decline of CW, it is often
difficult to find a QSO. By being willing to work QRS stations you greatly
increase your chances of a QSO. I often put out a CQ with the paddle and,
if no cigar, switch to the hand pump.

You meet some interesting people! Last year I worked a new ham on his
FIRST CW QSO: yes, he actually took the time to learn the code on his own.
I work many who have been QRT for years and finally got bitten by the CW
bug again. The record so far is a gent that had been QRT for 54 years!

It is fun! Pounding away on my ole J-38 again is just downright enjoyable
and who cares if a QSO takes longer.

If you care about CW, the best boost you can give it, is to work the QRS
guys. So either slow down your keyer (I have found I can't do that -- if I
try to slow the keyer down below 15 wpm, I make mistakes galore) or, better
yet, drag out ye ole pump handle and pound away. It takes some practice to
get your pump fist back, but when you do, I'll bet your will find yourself
having a ball!

(I would encourage non-selective CQs -- if you do have the good fortune to
run into a new guy, he is probably not a member of one of the clubs.)

Hi Phil,

I installed my sub-receiver a few months ago without difficulty. If you
have been inside your K3 previously, all will seem familiar. If not,
just follow the directions precisely and you will have no trouble. Don't
forget to install all your filters for the main receiver before you
start the new installation so that you don't have to take everything
apart again to reach them. By the way, I just love KRX3. It is so easy

My hex beam is turned by the Yaesu G8000DXA. As Mike pointed out, in
order to get computer control of your rotator you'll need the Idiom

G450A rotator. Computer control is only necessary if you want your
logging program (e.g. DXLab or N1MM) to help you control your rotator.
If that is not important to you, then the G450A will be perfectly fine
for your hex beam. The K3 doesn't really care about rotator compatibility.

Contact me off list, if you need more specific information about my setup.
