Re: [Elecraft] What Two Bands would you pick for a K1?
I built my K1 when it was still possible to get the 4-band module which for me, covers 40, 30, 20 & 15. As I would like to have 80m also to work my Norwegian hams, I built a 2-band board with 80 & 20. 20m is a band that's normally always open some part of the day and a band you can use for dx, even qrp. I would suggest 20m as one of the bands and 80, 40 or 30 for the other one. 40m is a very crowdy band which makes it difficult for qrp. 73 de Hal/LA4XX On 17-01-25 21:10, Mike Morrowwrote: > > > > What Two Bands would you pick for a K1? > > My first thoughts are 40 and 15, > > There are only six bands that Elecraft supports with KFL1-2 band parts: 80m, > 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, 15m. Re: [Elecraft] When is mode A not mode A?
Hi. Well, I for one use mode B and have always done so. Probably because my first keyer only had mode B and secondly because I wanted to use the squeeze tchnique, as I thought that was the ultimate way to send morse code. I have no problems with mode B, but cannot use mode A without a lot of errors, also on my KX3. Tom/N0SS described 14 years ago a simple technique that makes a filter board change when the KAT1 is installed much easier. He cut two segments from a thin rubber band and placed them inside the spacers that separate the KAT1 and KFL1. He threaded the screw coming out below the KAT1 PCB into each spacer with rubber strip in it. That keeps the otherwise loose spacers in place on the screw threads as the screws are turned during KAT1 removal/replacement for subsequent KFL1 swaps. The K1 MCU remembers the frequency display calibration for each band that was set by OFS, using a new KFL1 requires only loosening the two KAT1 PCB screws, removing the KAT1 (the KAT1-KFL1 spacers will now remain on the screw threads as the KAT1 is pulled off), swapping the KFL1, replacing the KAT1, installing the K1 top cover, and assigning b1 and b2 to the new bands. OK...so it's *still* a bit of a pain. But not having to mess with those two PCB spacers below the KAT1 is *major* improvement! Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Headphone Clicks
You are right. It doesn't help me. For me it all comes down to how much background noise there is. So for me it helps both with NR and NB as they both reduce the noise. When the QRN/QRM is above S6 I have to turn the AF gain down to 1. I still can here the signals, so for me it's no big problem. But I hope to get rid of it all in a future F/W version.73 de Hal la4xx On 13-12-30, Jim Bennett w6...@mac.com wrote: Just spent an hour or so working with Howard and Wayne at Elecraft trying to nail this down. In my situation, there was but one thing that just about completely eliminated this clicking: turning OFF the NR. With it turned on, at level 1, the clicking was ugly. Increasing it up to 9 or 10 helped a little, but lowered receive volume too much. Turning NR off stopped my clicks. At 12 vdc, how much power will the K-1 deliver? What is the current draw at 12 vdc. At 13.8 vdc, how much current does the K-1 draw to deliver 5 watts out? How low can the voltage be and still have the unit produce a stable output? If there is a chart which shows this kind of voltage vs power out data, I'd be grateful for the link. 72, Tim Do THIS before eating carbs (every time) 1 EASY tip to increase fat-burning, lower blood sugar decrease fat storage http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/52b3454ae5d045492d71st02duc __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K1-4 Low power output only on 15 meters.
Hi Jim. I've had the same problem with my K1. It turned out to be a bad crystal, so my suggestion is to get another crystal for the 15m band. 73 de Hal la4xx On 13-06-12, Jimithy66 jimith...@gmail.com wrote: My K1 was a wonderful radio on all bands 40 - 17m. However 17m saw very little use and 15m was desired.. The 26.050 crystal was replaced with the kit supplied 29.000 MHz crystal for 15m and the K1 realigned on all bands. All seemed to go well with the receive and transmit alignment with the power level set to 2 watts per the manual. However now the power will not go above 2 watts on 15m.. All bands go to 5 watts measured on a WM-2 watt meter but on 15m the output stops at 2 watts.. 15m programs OK from 0.2 to 2.0 watts output but not higher. The K1 display reads 5.0 when being set with buttons but the K1 power output display reads only around 2.1 or so watts. . All frequencies are correct on another receiver. Am I missing something ? Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Elecraft] My in-progress K1 is ALIVE!!!
Hi Paul. Congratulations!! This reminds me of when I put mine together some two years ago. I also trimmed the caps by ear. Plugged in my dipole and found a German station on 20m. Called him and he replied with a report of 579. Just after that I worked Senegal, Africa. I was totally hooked and my K1 has been my main radio since then until I got my KX3 last June. Good luck, Paul. You will have a lot of fun in the time to come. 73 de Hal LA4XX On 13-01-30, Paul Roche roc...@comcast.net wrote: Nobody at my house cares about radio stuff, so I have to share this with somebody!! I am putting together my K1 and have gotten to the point where I install L1 to perform the VFO Range Test. Of course I just HAD to plug in an antenna to see if this thing can hear, so I push the ON/OFF button and ... ... ... IT'S ALIVE How exciting, I just listened to 40 CW all night, did VFO range tests, and went to bed. I peaked all the trimmers by ear by transmitting 2 watts from my big rig (into a dummy load); there must be a more scientific way to do this. But so far so good. At 5 watts I think what will keep me back is NOT that last dB I lose from bad tweeking of the caps! My only snags: 1. I did not have a DMM and assumed my analog Radio Shack meter would do. The RatShack meter gave me crazy readings, went to Amazon and got an Equus 3320 Autorange DMM for $21 and BINGO, all readings were right on. 2. I could not get VFO frequency up to 3.090 by simple spreading of turns in L1, I had to remove L1 and remove a turn. BUT I had already flush-cut the leads when I put it in. It was a BITCH to get L1 installed again and that one short lead in the hole deep enough for soldering. Since removing L1 is a distinct possibility for future builders, maybe a note to NOT flush-cut the leads until you are SURE L1 is right. Otherwise, HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY. Re: [Elecraft] Suggested key/paddle for CW for a the K3 and others (not expensive)
Hi Cliff. Have a look at this site http://cwtouchkeyer.com/. I've been using these paddles for nearly two years and my opinion is that they can not be beaten by any mechanical paddles, and I've tried quite a few during over 30 years of cw operation. And they are very cheap too. 73 de Hal/LA4XX On 13-01-04, Clifford Hynds vk2...@gmail.com wrote: HI, OK this is probably a hard question but I am looking at something other than a straight key to try my hand at CW again.
