I have it working using non-qsk, using key out of k3 to key in on titan
amp. My question still is how to hook up for qsk operation with k3?

Tnx

[Elecraft] k3 and mmtty

2016-02-13 Thread John McBee
I have been having trouble in the wpx rtty test, my k3 has been having
issues with mmtty keying the rig. I have the in/out lines on k3 going
to in/out on sound card as they should, and the ptt-key set to drt-rts.
The problem is, part of the time the mic setting is set to abt 3-4 with
5 bars solid on ALC, if I go below 3 it drops to 3 bars flashing. I can
not get 4 solid bars with 5 flashing. But at times the k3 will stop
transmitting unless I turn the mic gain to abt 21 then it will start
transmitting again. I have had this issue all weekend. Could this be a
problem with my sound card? I have a second card in the computer but
can not get it too work right either.

Setup up as follows:
K3 out to line in on computer
K3 in to line out on computer, I have had hooked to microphone, but same
problems occur so using line out(headphones)

K3 ptt set to dtr-rts
K3 mic menu to Line in
Mic gain set to 3-4 when working and a lot higher when problems starts.
MMTTY sound card settings are : Line in-Reception,(Realtek soundcard)
Transmission-Speakers (Realtek)
Also have sound card settings set to Line in is set to 50% and Wintest
slider set to 70%

Any thoughts would be great. Can't enjoy WPX RTTY like this...

[Elecraft] k3 160 meter low output power

2015-12-26 Thread John McBee
Just wondering what might be wrong with a friend's K3. It will only put
out 85 watts on 160 meters. All other bands put out 100 watts. I have
done the calibration with the K3 Utility program, but no change. Just
curious to what might be wrong, or what I could check from him. Thanks
for the replies in advance.
Sorry if this was sent twice, chose the wrong reply address for this

I have read the MCU load error under K3 Firmware Self-Test and what to
do in an error of loading MCU but I have lost communications with the k3
with my serial to usb cable that I normally use and have tried a serial
to serial cable to another computer that still has a serial port- DB9
connections, I have also changed the baud rate to 38400 which it was
before it crashed. No luck with any of these actions. Any help would
be great.

Is there a way to see the S meter reading for the sub receiver? I've
been looking thru the manual and cann't find it. I thought I have read
somewhere about dual S meter's. Any help would be great or let me know
what page in manual it is on.

I've made a lot of QSOs using the WSJT modes, but I wouldn't dream of
doing so when a contest is occupying the same space. The same is true
of CW or SSB on contesting bands during a contest. We hams have a lot
of spectrum, but none of us owns any frequency, either individually or
as a group. Contest organizers intentionally avoid the WARC bands, and
RTTY contesting intentionally avoids 160M. Someone who wants to work
JT65 or PSK31 on HF during a RTTY contest can QSY to 160M, 30M, 17M,
or 12M. So can CW operators. At least one of these bands will usually
be open enough to have fun.

[Elecraft] K3 phone plub

2014-12-22 Thread John McBee
I have been having a problem for some time with the headphone jack on my
K3, no sound coming out of speaker on K3. It's starting to happen more
and more frequently. The problem is, some times when I turn on my K3, I
can't hear any audio coming out of the K3 speaker unless I plug in my
headphones and unplug them. Hear lately it will work for a little bit
then quit and I'll have to plug a phone plug back in and remove it again
for the audio to return to the k3 speaker. Sometimes just leaving the
headphone connector in a little will make the audio come back to
speaker. Could this be a bad phone plug on the K3? Im running MCU
firmware v 4.86.

Thanks for any advice

[Elecraft] K3 and N1MM interface

2010-02-13 Thread John McBee
I am a new K3 owner and need some help with the k3 interface with N1MM. I
have got it work with a Winkey, but would also like for N1MM to keep track
of my band change and Freq. I have connected it to the computer via RS323
port to USB, but keep getting a error after a few minutes connected this
way. I also get an error if I only use the RS232 port for keying also.
Looks like the best way is to use the Winkey, but still would like the
logging program to keep track of Band and Freq. Any help would be great.

Thanks

John
