[Elecraft] [KPA1500] Odd power up behavior

2022-02-11 Thread Warren Merkel
I thought I'd mention this to the list as it took a while to sort out.
Fortunately, the resolution was simple.

When powering up the KPA1500 last week, it spit out some 50V power
supply faults and refused to start up.  In doing so, the amplifier panel
indicators did some nasty flash-dance flickering before shutting down.
I power cycled the main power switch on the back of the power supply,
but still experienced the 50V faults a few more times.   After a few
minutes of total power disconnection, the amplifier once again powered
up normally. Everything seemed normal.

However, I didn't notice until I first attempted to transmit, that it
wouldn't go into PTT.    After a lot of cable swapping and even a switch
to a KPA500, no cable faults were detected.  The KPA500 happily goes
into PTT, where swapping back to the KPA1500, the PTT issue resumed.

Yes, I restored the settings from a known-good saved configuration.
Still no joy.

However, on a whim, I reflashed the firmware using the utility. (Same
version - 2.58) and the issue vanished.  Apparently, the nasty power up
flash-n-flicker flipped a few bits in the amplifier's controller program
space.

And there you have it.

Warren, KD4Z

beginning at what serial number?

Yes. The K3 radios built right before the K3s was announced started
coming with the KSYN3A. Mine is #8903 and came with two of the new
synths. (sub RX) It also has the HPA from the K3s. Kinda a Premi-K3s

Re: [Elecraft] Efficiency of MFJ remotely-tuned loop antennas

2021-01-19 Thread Warren Merkel
Resistive Losses around the loop are the biggest factor limiting
efficiency.

My friend, Paul Casper, K4HKX has done very extensive investigation and
documentation of Mag Loop performance. His loops exhibit excellence in
both Art and Science. I'd recommend taking in his findings posted on
his QRZ page.

https://www.qrz.com/db/k4hkx

You might get distracted looking at his other antenna creations. I
wrote the code running in the custom antenna control head.

The Mag Loops start way down at Section 7. The progression of loop
designs is staggering. You might find his HF mobile loop quite
interesting too. He uses a KX3 + KXPA100 with his mobile loop.

You are neglecting the losses in various connections in the system ...
including possibly the construction of the capacitor itself.? I don't
believe that they are insignificant.? There is a reason why top quality
variable capacitors often use welded plates.

I would also guess that contact resistance is worse for dissimilar
materials, such as a copper wire to an aluminum tube.

Yours is a limited theoretical analysis ... not a practical one.

Re: [Elecraft] help with writing a macro for the KPA 1500

2020-10-26 Thread Warren Merkel

Howard,

Did you get your KPA1500 PF macros to work? I use these all the time,
doing exactly the same thing you want.

In the KPA1500 Utility, on the PF Keys tab, fill them in as:

PF1:^XI00;
PF2:^XI30;

PF1 for K3 / K3S and PF2 for Flex. I have Serial Speed XCVR set to
38400 bps and have the USB Cables setup configured for the same speed.

I am trying to write macros for the PF 1 & 2 keys for the KPA 1500.

My objective is:
Have the PF1 button switch the Input to the K3s with the command ^PF1^XI0;
Have the PF2 button change the input type to serial (for Flex) with the
command ^PF2^XI3;

Neither one is working, where am I going wrong?

I assume that after I have these working with the command tested in the

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Digest, Vol 193, Issue 35

2020-05-20 Thread Warren Merkel

I definitely wouldn't bother to modify the KPA1500 to have a monitor loop!

I bought two sensors -- one between the K3 and the KPA1500, and the
other between the amplifer output and the antenna feedline. The
LP500/LP700 supports up to four sensors.

This allows easy swapping from exciter output to amplifier output with a
button press, and allows amplifier linearity monitoring using the LP700.

[Elecraft] KPA500 - KAT500 - KPA1500 Remote autostart script -- Kstart-RemoteHost

2020-05-10 Thread Warren Merkel
If your station includes a KPA1500, or KPA500 / KAT500 pair and you use
them remotely,
you are likely aware of the Remote applications from Elecraft designed
to control these units via the Internet.

I have cobbled up a command script that facilitates boot-time startup of
these "Remote" Host applications

from Elecraft.

The script will launch any of the three Remote applications you want,
and can easily be wired into the
PC Startup sequence to survive PC restarts.  Also, the script supports
two instances of each type of device

-- for those doing SO2R remotely.

For example, with one click, you can launch both of the applications for
the KPA500 and KAT500, and have

them start into Remote Host mode.

If you are tired of using TeamViewer to restart these applications, it
is worth a look.   I have included a
basic set of instruction steps that describe the extra requirements for
IP addressing, Port Forwarding, and

getting the script to launch at boot-time.

Expert users can skip that stuff and go right to the configuration area
of the script.

I called it Kstart-RemoteHost.  I have it published on github.

https://github.com/KD4Z/Kstart-RemoteHost

Let me know if it works for you.  If you like it, buy me a beer.

[Elecraft] [KPA1500] Power supply filter tip

2020-02-06 Thread Warren Merkel
I thought I'd mention a tip I've done to filter out fine dust from being
pulled into the KPA1500 power supply.  My unit runs 24/7 and I was
surprised how rapidly the fan grid on top of the power supply gathered a
circular collection of dust, even though the floor is tiled.

I picked up a package of washable foam filter material at the home
store.  It is normally used as a replacement air conditioner filter.
Here are a few shots.   Looks like it's time to wash it again...

[Elecraft] [K3 / K3s] Both TX Inhibit and Remote Power On ability?

2019-03-22 Thread Warren Merkel

Given:  CONFIG: TX INH

I would like to be able to control TX Inhibit externally from a my

Given that the TX Inhibit and the Remote Power On features share the
same ACC pin 7 and are mutually exclusive, has anyone found a way to
have both abilities simultaneously ?

Sure, one can add relays inline with all PTT control paths, but that
doesn't handle the situation if VOX is enabled.

I am running "Pro" like that makes a difference. Only if the
workstation is joined to an Active Directory Domain, and then through
Domain Policy-- can you disable the Windows Updates on Win 10.

All I can do is postpone it for an extended time. Eventually, it will
take an update and reboot. Only realistic solution to stopping auto
reboots is to bail out on Windows 10 and go back to Windows 7. I don't
really want to block updates completely either.

I'm in touch with the software dev and will certainly get the
application square, without heroic measures with an autokey program.

It's just a bug or unfinished functionality.

[Elecraft] [KPA1500] Auto start KPA1500-Remote in host mode ?

2018-08-15 Thread Warren Merkel
I'm looking to get the KPA1500-Remote utility to survive these darn
Windows 10 forced reboots after Windows Update.   I can get the KPA1500
Remote utility to auto-start FB after a reboot.

However, it doesn't remember it was in "Host Remote" mode and just comes
up waiting for mouse clicks that will never come -- since it's on an
unattended PC running RCForb.  I'm using it in "Ethernet" mode, though
the KPA1500's USB cable is also connected to the same PC for RCForb.

There doesn't seem to be any command line options yet, or at least
nothing is documented or listed from a /h, /help, or /? command line
parameter.

Am I missing something in the setup dialogs?

Other observations:

When the "Start Hosting Remote" command button is clicked, I get the
warning dialog: "IP Address Appears not to be a Local IP or Invalid IP..."

My IP addresses are sane as both the PC and the KPA1500  have valid
addresses in the 192.168.x.x address space.  Could this warning dialog
be getting in the way of the auto-start of Hosting Remote mode.

The process name shows up in task list as "KPA500-Remote", though I know
it's really the KPA1500 version of the app.

Constructive suggestions welcomed.

So far, I'm experiencing normal operation of the K-Pod with a 14ft RJ12

"09600 RJ12 6P6C Straight Modular Cable"

At this point, I am not using the power modification on the K3, so I
will report back if the results vary after swapping over to feeding
power via the data cable. Of course, your mileage might vary depending
on RF levels in your shack :)

Received my K-Pod today via USPS. When updating the K3 firmware to

Utility. The Utility then found the K3 was in bootloader mode and
allowed a "Send All Firmware" to proceed normally. Recovered K3
successfully.

I wish the rocker switch was a bit lower, and away from VFO knob, as it
is very easy to skew the freq a bit as you go to move the rocker
switch.Used an audio style RCA male to twin RCA female ("Y") to
split power for P3 and K-Pod.K-Pod working as designed.

Will perform the power mod after I finish up getting the bonus station
GB13COL as part of the 13 Colonies special event going on right now.
(He keeps setting up 2K away from state-side Nets and is very light! Argh.)

Haven't programmed any macros for the function keys yet.

Will need to source a longer RJ12 data cable for the K-Pod. Interested
in something about 12-14 ft. Hopefully, the protocol will support that

Re: [Elecraft] RFI and Direct tv or Dish network

Thanks for the note Jim,

However I've already got multiple passes of the OCF Feedline fed through
a stack of five 2.4" #31 donuts, per your very own, excellent
RFI-Ham.pdf article. Picture on my QRZ page.
https://www.qrz.com/db/KD4Z

The RG6 has a stack of three donuts with a large number (didn't count)
of turns, located at the demark point to the house. I guess I could add
another set and spread out the Z over frequency a bit more.

I believe I need to look for other entry points to the entertainment
system as a whole, as the DirecTV DVR is network connected and of
course, connected to an AV receiver. Lots of points of entry to squelch.

Re: [Elecraft] RFI and Direct tv or Dish network

2016-05-18 Thread Warren Merkel
I have a DirecTV system and haven't had as good luck with RFI as the
others here. My dish is about 40 feet directly below and near the end
of an OCF 80m Windom. It worked out that was the only realistic
position that afforded full Sat views through the trees.

Usually nothing happens at 100w HF output, but when I run the power up
to 500w (depending on band), two of my DVRs either "turn off" (standby
really) or start randomly recording whatever channel is being tuned at
the time. I've got the dish grounded and the RG6 feed is passed
multiple passes through large #31 ferrites, with no overall improvement
in RFI.

I would recommend much more separation of antennas and feedline than I
have, if possible.

Re: [Elecraft] New Elecraft Product: K-Pod Control Panel for K3S and K3 Transceivers

2016-04-15 Thread Warren Merkel
Looks right Joe,

Not knowing if the K-Pod is a 3.3v versus a 5V device, it is hard to
predict. If 3.3v, the 120R on pin 2 could be removed and keep the
protection of the BAT54 zener, leaving barely enough voltage for a 3.3V
dropout regulator in the Pod. If 5V, shorting the 10K on pin 6 would
likely be the route. Since the K-Pod also provides a USB port, my bet
is will be a pin 6 modification as it will require 5V to be "normal".

What ever the mod, it stands to reason that the guys would try to keep
the port operational in it's original purpose as well.

Pin 4 (PGD) and Pin 5( PGC) will obviously be for data in the
undisclosed format :)

Whatever the mod will be, it will involve tiny smd chips...

Diagram snip here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24789865/K3_ICD-2_page22_Front_panel_MCU.JPG

It looks like a bust to migrate the K-Pod to the KX3, as all of the pins
definitions on the internal "ACC" connector are switched all around, not
to mention it's a 3.3V setup and the connector isn't brought outside.
Would be a more serious modification indeed.

Re: [Elecraft] P3 v1.57 / SVGA v1.31 BETA firmware available

2016-02-26 Thread Warren Merkel
Jim,

Now that the # commands for the P3 are being executed from within a P3
macro, this *should* be possible. That is the first thing I was
attempting to do after updating to P3 v1.57 -- Although have yet to get
it to work completely. It appears that some of the individual commands
in the sequence are not being executed due to the speed at which they
are executed from the macro. The P3 is single threaded so inputted
commands could be missed while it is handling other things.

Using Tim's (A45WG) idea for a CW pileup macro, I recently extended it
for an SSB view in a python script run from a serial port connected
host. The meat of that script boils down to this macro form:

#FXT0;#FXA0;#SPN000300;UP7;UP7;#FXT1;#FXA1;DN7;DN7;

There may be other ways to accomplish this feature however. When this
string is assigned to a P3 macro position and executed, only a few of
the pieces get executed properly.

I have been advised that inserting other commands that do "inquiries"
may be useful to add pacing to the sequence. These queries are commands
that ASK for a result, like FA to get current frequency from the K3.
The response is discarded of course, but the delay might be useful in
wasting time while the P3 is "busy." I'm still tinkering with getting
this concept to work. Feel free to help me tinker with it.

I have however, gotten it to work perfectly using a Genovation keypad.
I have split the above string into seven distinct macros in the P3, then
I trigger each one in sequence from a single key on the Genovation
keypad. The software for the Genovation keypad allows you to put in a
selectable delay between "keystrokes" so I have got it working well with
100ms of delay after each # command. The K3 UP and DN commands seem to
operate well without any pacing between/or after them. I only tried
this a few times, first starting with about 30 ms of delay, and that
wasn't enough. It started to work at 100ms. Your mileage may vary.

In the P3, create these macros with listed trigger key:
(I chose the shifted F1 through shifted F7, feel free to use any other
keys you want)

Shift F1#FXT0;
Shift F2#FXA0;
Shift F3#SPN000300;
Shift F4UP7
Shift F5#FXT1;
Shift F6#FXA1;
Shift F7DN7

In the Genovation keypad software, define one of the keys to fire this
sequence and download it to the keypad.

It looks like this: (L Shift Down) F1 (delay 100) F2 (delay 100) F3
(delay 100) F4 F4 F5 (delay 100) F6 (delay 100) F7 F7 (L Shift Up)

(A snapshot of this setup in the Genovation software is here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24789865/Genovation_Pileup_ssb_key.jpg

Connect the Genovation keypad to the P3 and press the single key you
used for the above macro, and poof!

[Elecraft] [P3] ETA on beta for executing #macros contained in P3

2016-02-24 Thread Warren Merkel
Is there any projected ETA on a P3 firmware release to get #macros (ones
directed to the P3 itself) to execute from P3 keyboard macros? I
forgot these don't work yet and am stuck until they do! Beta please :)

[Elecraft] [K3] Single Side display of Pileup on P3 in SSB mode

2016-02-21 Thread Warren Merkel
My thanks go out to Tim Seed for making me dig into this further.

I modified Tim's Python scripts to work correctly under Windows and
perform the same action in SSB mode. Though, if the serial port is
changed as noted, it should work under Linux as well. I have included
two versions of each, one "win" version and the other "linux", the
difference only being the CR/LF encoding of the file.

I modified a few of the commands to suit my preferences and had to fix a
slight issue where multiple commands didn't
execute reliably when combined in the same statement. (the whole reason
for running it in a loop in python was to add a delay!)
It doesn't quite put the DX station on the left "margin" of the P3, but
is close enough and gives you a peek of what is just below the DX.

It runs slow due to the one second delay between commands, however it
works pretty well otherwise. I have included a modified reset script as
well. If in the future, a NOP (No Operation) or delay macro is
discovered in the K3 that could be used to allow proper pacing, the
python script can be retired.

I have posted them on Dropbox here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24789865/Elecraft-K3-Pan-Pile-Up-SSB.zip

Warren Merkel, KD4Z

The new SSB version script looks like this:

import serial
import time

# Original script : Tim Seed
# Modified: Warren Merkel, KD4Z
# modified for SSB mode and split commands into single steps for robustness

# Used to configure the K3 and P3 to shift the display so that a DX station
# currently tuned in VFO A, is moved to the left side of the P3 screen,
# and the P3 span and tracking modes set to allow easy VFO A movement
# without causing the P3 to shift the position of the DX station
# from the left side.
# Note, you likely have already set the K3 into Split mode before executing
# this script, so that isn't handled here

# Requires Python 2.7 or 3.x and appropriate PySerial library

# #FXT - Fixed or Tracking Select
# options are:
# FXT0;Tracking
# FXT1;Fixed-tune (used below)

# #FXA - Fixed-tune Auto-adjust mode (screen pan method)
# options are:
# #FXA0; Full screen
# #FXA1; Half screen (used below)
# #FXA2; Slide
# #FXA3; Static

# SPN - Display Span size
# options are dependent on size desired, xxx in 100 Hz units
# for example:
# #SPN000500;sets to 50 kHz
# #SPN002000;sets to 200 kHz (used below)

# DN - Move VFO A Down
# UP - Move VFO A Up
# the options are in fixed values. The largest step is 5kHz, so it is
used twice
# #DN7; move down 5kHz
# #UP7; move up 5kHz

Don,

Of course it wouldn't in RX. Excuse me. I was under the impression
that the OP was referring to TX and the TX "audio", so I'll stand on my
comment. Just trying to help sort it out. The OP didn't specifically
state RX or TX so how do you *really* know?

2015-08-29 Thread Warren Merkel
Jim,

Did you check what the K3S power level displays when the KPA500 is in
Operate mode? It could be set for very low drive. I have mine set up to
lower the drive from 100w to 30w when the KPA500 goes from standby to
operate. If you have the setting for per band mode enabled, you will
need to check it on each band.

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 Utility

2015-08-24 Thread Warren Merkel
Brian,

I had this happen to me one time.I believe it was trying to find the
KAT500 on a port that was no longer the correct COM port. A device was
there but it wasn't the KAT500.Try unplugging all other USB devices
that you can, leaving only the KAT500 connected, and start the
application again. (Kill the task in the process list if you see it's
already there) If no joy, try disabling any COM port sharing software
you might be using as well.

I just tried to find where the KAT500 utility stores config info and
interestingly didn't find a thing in what looks to be the right place
( %appdata%\Elecraft\KAT500 Configuration) The folder is empty!
Was hoping it was just a config file that we could look at.

Might I suggest you look in the Control Panel Device Manager, and
determine which port is being assigned to the KAT500. It should be
listed under "Ports and LPT" It shows up as "USB Serial Port (COMx)"
Where "x" is a number. Make mental note of what the COMx is in your
case. That at least means that the KAT500 is being recognized by the
computer and is assigned a COM port. If this port assignment doesn't
make sense from what you expect or what it was using previously,
possibly the Utility is hung while trying to use different port than
what it is being assigned to the KAT500 now-- and not doing a good job
of telling you it's having an issue.

Have you tried uninstalling the Utility completely and then reinstall
it? Hopefully the uninstaller will remove the incorrect configuration
information on the way out. The developer needs to chime in on where
that is kept.

Re: [Elecraft] P3TXMON Bug?

2015-08-12 Thread Warren Merkel
Alan,

Since "optional" would be the idea, and that the P3 must know (or could
know) what mode the K3 is in, why not make it selectable if not in CW
mode? It sure seems like us folks that want it to swap in and out, are
comfortable waiting a few seconds for the waterfall to update.
It seems half baked to me the way it is. You already swap the
modulation waveform in and out, why not the rest?

Otherwise, is there a way to fire macros from the K3 to the P3 when
going from TX to RX and back? Or maybe fire them from within the P3
itself? Then I guess we could do it ourselves.

Re: [Elecraft] Strange bandswitch behavior - incorrect command interpretation

2015-08-11 Thread Warren Merkel
Chris,
I had the same issue with the band down side. With the power off, I just
rapidly and aggressively pushed on the band down side with moderate pressure --
maybe 20 times. The switch seemed to be sticky when new. The issue returns if
the button is partly depressed in haste.

Elecraft support advised me I was the first to report this and if I sent it
back, they would test the unit's functionality. I decided not to do that due
to shipping cost--for such a trivial issue-waiting for it to fail completely.

Re: [Elecraft] P3 - still in trouble with new firmware

2015-08-03 Thread Warren Merkel
Let's all not loose sight that this release is a B E T A. There will
be bugs. There will be another release. Feedback regarding issues
found is what the developers want out of this cycle. We are lucky
Elecraft has decided to run a public beta cycle. Typically, beta
releases are released to far fewer testers, for a longer period of time.
Beta testers know that it isn't a Production release and don't expect
it to be ready for prime time. If you are having issues and need the
P3 fully operational to pre-P3TXMON conditions, then the production
release can be flashed back into the P3 and you are back in business.

The obvious reason to run a public beta is to get a larger surface
area...so that the issues can be identified more quickly and the
developers can knock the bugs out more rapidly and get to a Production
status rapidly. The commitment to quality goes untarnished in my eyes.

Many of us don't yet even have the P3TXMON hardware so we are yet to
jump in with feedback. When UPS comes by, I'll be pushing all the
buttons and helping make the P3 as perfect as it can be.

Re: [Elecraft] Windows 8.1 tablet power

2015-07-07 Thread Warren Merkel
Mark,

I would think the powered USB hub could work as it would provide power
to devices downstream of the hub. They are not to be confused with a
passive USB hub, which only passes on the power available from the
tablet's USB port.

Powered hubs are easy to identify as they are usually provided with a
wall-wart power supply. I use one to relieve the power duties to
devices connected to Raspberry Pi boards.

A few catches here: One is the wall-wart is usually a switching supply
which may cause harmful hash on it's own. You could replace it with an
older linear regulator wall-wart in that case.

The other is you might have to split out the power lines from the data
lines and craft up a "Y" cable to allow you to provide 5V power to the
tablet, and also bring out the two data lines to a cable going to the
active USB hub.

I'm not sure this will even work as (you are correct in that) sometimes
the data lines are shorted together in "USB Power Charger" devices, and
that is used by the connected device, to detect that the port is to be
configured to accept a charging current as opposed to "data mode" If
you can find a way to test that the tablet will charge with a wall-wort
that only has two pins connected, you should be in good shape to make
the Y cable.

In the case of the Raspberry Pi, I have had luck with some powered hubs
being able to back feed 5V on the USB data connection and actually power
the Pi via it's USB dataport. This also may work for your tablet if
luck is with you :)

Looks like a bit of breadboarding is in your future Mark.

Joshua,

I'd just make up my own with some cable and the desired connector. I
just made one for $13 with a nice switch from Amazon. Very nicely
built and heavy enough to not slide around. Has rubber pads on top and
bottom. You provide your own wire and connector. Works well and is
small enough to pack up easily.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 TX all the time ISSUE

Since the radio isn't brain dead, it might be worth a try to reflash the latest
firmware and power cycle the rig. Then scroll through all the config settings
and look for anything out of place. Unplug anything on the AUX and serial
ports to eliminate external issues.

That kit from OHR looks nicely done. I wonder if the pcb was immersed in a
gallon can of mineral oil instead of the included case, how much more power
could it withstand then? 5x-10x maybe? I could use the enclosure for
something else. Otherwise I'd get a full paint can kit off ebay for about the

[Elecraft] K3 birth announcement

2015-03-14 Thread Warren Merkel
Announcing the arrival of a new K3 to this world. #8902 was officially
brought into this world after 3 nights of light labor in kit building.
Many thanks to Stephanie, Johanna, and Jashmin for accurately counting
all of those tiny nuts, bolts and washers packed in what seemed like a
hundred little envelopes and bags. Only 2 little bolts were missing,
and were easily replaced from spares in the included extra parts bag.
(thanks for including that Wayne)

All seem to be well with the newborn after a minor visit to the ICU when
one of the TMP cables didn't want to seat correctly in the J92 connector
of the KRX3. A note to the folks that will be assembling/adding the
KRX3 in the future, that J92 is mounted at a slight angle from the pcb,
and it is prudent to support the back edge of the TMP socket while
inserting the TMP cable connection. In my case, the connector started
to pull up from the pcb so a small resolder operation of the ground
connection was in order. All is well and the newborn K3 has exited the
recovery room and has entered the world. How appropriate it was that my
first contact with the new rig was with another K3 owner.

Happy Pi Day to all,

Warren, KD4Z

Re: [Elecraft] MCU 5.13 observation

Wayne,

As a future feature, I would like to see the cw speed be displayable,
but have it scroll by every so often, at word breaks. That way the
full text length of vfo B can be utilized for incoming characters, and
still get a cw speed tickler after say 4 screens (configurable would be
even better) of characters go by.

Re: [Elecraft] How can I get more Programmable Macros? (feature request?)

2015-03-03 Thread Warren Merkel
Wayne,

*Q1*: Did you just say that macros can be self-modifying! I haven't
found the Write commands to do that yet. Can you or any other really
smart guys elaborate?

For example, Let's say I'd like to create a toggle with a single macro.
I would like it to do this without having an external application
controlling things. So, internal to the K3, a macro would perform one
or more functions, then before exiting, would rewrite itself to "unset"
what was just done.

Using the sample macro from Table 2 in the Programmers Reference for
"AMP ON" and let's just assign it to say, Macro 1

In pseudo-code, I'd like it to run:

MN019;MP001;MN255;PC065;DB65;DB77;DB80;DB32;DB79;DB78

and then, before the macro finishes, I would like it to rewrite itself to:

MN019;MP000;MN255;PC100;DB65;DB77;DB80;DB32;DB79;DB70;DB70

Each time Macro 1 is executed, it toggles the Logic 1 output and alters
the power output and displays "AMP ON" (or AMP OFF).One button thus
becomes a toggle. Press a button, the external amp is enabled, and the
drive is lowered for it. Press it again, and the amp is disabled and
drive is raised back.

Seems like all I need is a macro command that allows a new macro string
to be written, especially to the one running at the time :)
You could also have one macro change other macros in this way.In
effect, you would only be limited by your imagination and what you can
get stored in 120 character pieces. Hopefully we aren't limited in how
many FLASH Write operations can be performed to the EEPROM. (1 million
or more maybe? )

Since the K3 Utility obviously has the ability to write to the macro
storage locations, would it be possible for macros to eat their own dog
food too?

If the macro language supports basic branching, I guess it could be done
inline to the macro and not have to rewrite itself so...

*Q2*: Is there a way to do IIF (or IF/ELSE) branching in a single
macro? (strictly a wishlist item)

In other words: IF (value) THEN (macro string) ELSE (another macro
string)

All this comes from my experience in making SCOM 7K controllers self
modify it's macros to make wonderful things happen.

Thanks! This is about to become very interesting...

daily archive mode and won't see the Stand Down order until later today.

Come on folks, just take it elsewhere or drop it. This world-wide list
