Re: [Elecraft] [K2] W3FPR Fixed audio out - installation options or ideas?
I have built Don's fixed audio out board and fitted it as suggested with no problems whatsoever. Output is taken to a phono socket fitted in one of the unused transverter holes in the top panel. When I fitted the 60m option which includes the transverter interface I used the new heatsink so the transverter sockets use the holes in there, making the ones on the top panel redundant. It works fine. 73 Dave G3YMC -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K2-W3FPR-Fixed-audio-out-installation-options-or-ideas-tp5759677p5759698.html Sent from the [K2] mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] [OT] Frequency Guide
A couple of points: 7040 has been used as the QRP frequency CW in the USA, but elsewhere in the world it has always been 7030. The ARRL new plan is an attempt to bring the USA into conformity. 40m bandplans changed last year with the increased allocation in Region 1 after the broadcasters moved away. 7000-7040 is now CW only, PSK is allowed above 7040 and SSB (Region 1) above 7050. Unfortunately PSK and other data operators in Europe seem to turn a blind eye to the bandplan and insist on using 7035. 73 Dave G3YMC -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/OT-Frequency-Guide-tp5553267p566.html Sent from the [HAM] mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Using /QRP in CW contests
In fact in many countries of the world the suffix /QRP is not allowed or is a grey area in their licences. I operate QRP but will NEVER send G3YMC/QRP. If a station calls me with /QRP I might make a note in my logbook that they are QRP but will omit the suffix from the callsign I put in the log and not use /QRP in responding to them. Many operators will do the same. In a contest you should certainly never use it, it slows down the exchange and virtually none of the contest stations you work will actually log it. It also causes big headaches for LOTW and eQSL in that as a different callsign it won't match with what the other chap sends so you won't get those cards. And I always tell people that those who send /QRP in a pileup get 559 reports. I get 599 like everybody else! 73 Dave G3YMC K2 #2298 5W QRP -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Using-QRP-in-CW-contests-tp5046634p5047158.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Sales service goes from bad to worse
I would agree that your criticism is somewhat inappropriate Julian, Elecraft still do an excellent job especially since they deal with a very much greater customer base these days. A couple of points worth commenting on though. I recently ordered some upgrades for my K2 (yes some of us still use those...). Confirmation of order and dispatch was very quick. A few days later the tracking at UPS after it had left customs also showed they attempted to deliver but clearly had not. In fact what happens is that Parcel Force send you a postcard to instruct you how to pay the customs fees and that time corresponded to when they had sent that postcard, not when they delivered (the postcard, with a different Parcel Force tracking number, arrived the next day and I paid and arranged delivery for the following day). There were a couple of small omissions in the parcel, so guess Elecraft do sometimes make mistakes. An email to sales resolved these, the missing parts were dispatched the same day and received here yesterday. So apart from that slight hiccup I am a very satisfied customer. 73 Dave G3YMC K2 #2498 -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Elecraft-Sales-service-goes-from-bad-to-worse-tp2489040p2490003.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Can I operate the rig via a power supply with the internal battery switch turned on??? Just curious if I need to use caution while operating. Thanks and 72: Jerry N0JRN This is stated in the KBT2 manual: CAUTION: If you connect an external battery or a power supply of other than 14.0 V to the K2, you must disable the internal battery using the battery on/off switch. Otherwise, the external battery or low-voltage supply will charge the internal battery to an inadequate voltage, greatly reducing the internal battery’s life. Not sure whether the reason given is entirely correct, but in essence if your external supply is 14V or so you can use the K2 with the rear switch in the ON position, which is the normal charging condition. If you have a lower voltage supply you cannot - I suspect what happens there is that the internal battery tries to discharge through your external supply. You need the rear battery switch in the ON position to charge the battery, it is in series with it. The manual is referring to the front power switch - have it on if you are using the K2, off if you are just charging. Came across this last night. I am checking out a second hand K2 for a friend. I have repeatedly tried touching it up with black car touch-up paint but before long it looks a mess again. I have been considering attaching a new front plastic disc on it to sort the problem, but with my mechanical skills it would unlikely look very pretty. Today I was eyeing a pile of electrolytic capacitors in the junk box. I picked up a 470uF 400V cap and noticed it had a nice black plastic disc on its top, covering up the aluminium below. Even better it was 34mm diameter, about the same as the K2 knob. A quick cut and pare with the wire cutters and it was removed and stuck on the front of my knob. Superb. Maybe won't last, but I have quite a few more of those caps! The tail end of the username is replaced by On the other hand, the obfuscation on qth.net is so trivial that I'm sure that most spambots de-obfuscate it without any thought these days. I believe that qth.net is big enough to be worth specific targetting by spammers, although Google is, obviously, a prime target. I have certainly found that if I do a google search on my email address the one (and usually only) place where it turns up is on the qth.net archives (this list and another there I subscribe to). Clearly there is deficiency in this area, despite them saying they are protected. As an aside, I am posting this via the Nabble web interface. I wonder if my real email address gets archived in the qth.net one? And secondly, does this message actually get to the email list, there have been suggestions that some of the Nabble ones don't...? My spam seems to have dropped to an all time low of one or two a day, but maybe I shouldn't say that in case the spammers hear... 73 Dave G3YMC -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Yet-another-Elecraft-archive-tp14630660p14636852.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Mike I am using the Nabble interface as well (but in the UK and not getting any bounce messages from my posts...). Maybe it is one of the quirks of Nabble, it does not always seem to show all messages. Maybe nobody on the email version is seeing this thread at all??? But I guess going somewhat OT. 73 Dave G3YMC -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Why-are-UK-addresses-blocked-by-the-maininlg-list--tp14441411p14451477.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] No Elecraft List
I have also just emailed Andy direct and reminded him that he can also see posts on the Nabble archive (http://www.nabble.com/Elecraft-f28632.html) which some of us are now using to keep the traffic down. Seems to work fairly well but I do get the impression that some posts don't make it through to Nabble and also it often doesn't thread them correctly. But saves me scrolling though several email digests a day Caught sight of a few of the boards of M0XDF's K3 last night, looks impressive!! 73 Dave G3YMC -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/No-Elecraft-List-tp14417632p14419445.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] OT - 10 meter contest
A lot better than in G land. Left the receiver running on 28020 yesterday and a couple of times signals popped out of the noise but had disappeared again before I could copy their callsigns. Effectively zilch - and I won the QRP G certificate last year with a massive 18 QSOs... 73 Dave G3YMC ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
