[Elecraft] KX3 FOR SALE

2014-05-01 Thread lane zeitler via Elecraft
Bought just a few months ago. S/N 6032. Paid $1538 shipped to me in Japan. I
have the KX3, KXAT3 auto tuner, KXBC3 battery charger, MH3 hand mic, the KXPD3
paddles, and the Fred Cady KX3 book. I also have eight Sanyo Eneloop 2700 maH
NIMH batteries in the unit and have a second spare set (unopened) of the same
batteries that are included.

I want a simpler radio such as the Argonaut VI so will sell this whole package
for $1100 shipped. There is nothing wrong with it at allI just do not care
for all the endless bells and whistles.

US Postal Money Order only. I will ship to you via USPS Priority. I am
stationed here in Japan and will only ship via US Postal Service.

Re: [Elecraft] Echo and feedback un SSB

2014-04-20 Thread lane zeitler via Elecraft
Don,
I did not consider the inherent delay of the all digital time to process.
Thinking back on my gold standard of ssb monitor circuits, the TS-830S has zero
delay due to it being all analog. My TS-850 is similar, although much more
modern than the 830 the ssb monitor is still all analog circuitry. It would
make sense in all digital rig such as the KX3 minus of course the rf circuits
but still heavily based on digital technology that there would be an
unavoidable delay in the speech we emit into the mic vs what we hear back in
the monitor circuit. Thanks for the tip.

Lane,

That "back of the cave" sound can be one of two things.
One is that there is monitor audio reaching your microphone due to
either using the speaker or audio leakage from your headphones,
The second is that it is simply your perception.  There is a very slight
delay between your voice and the output of the monitor.  If your ears
are sensitive enough to pick up that delay, it will sound like an echo
in your head.

In other words there may be no problem.  I suspect that is the case
whether no 1 or no 2 is the cause.

Does anyone else notice the vfo encoder noise when tuning on a dead quiet band?
If you spin the vfo quickly you hear noise in the audio. If there is about an
s1 or so or greater background noise you do not hear it.

[Elecraft] trade 3 week old KX3 for Eagle

2014-04-19 Thread lane zeitler via Elecraft
My KX3 is only a few weeks old. I am original owner. Has the optional
paddles, hand mic, battery charger, and auto tuner. Works FB on brand
new Sanyo Eneloop 2700mAH NIMH batteries. I also have a brand new,
unopened spare set of the same batteries that is included. Would like to work
out a deal for a Ten Tec EagleI do not like the menu system at all on the
KX3 which is the only reason why I am not keeping it. Let me know if you have a
like new Eagle and want to work out a trade. At this point I am not interested
in
selling the KX3 outright. I think the s/n is 63XX,

[Elecraft] Fw: First contact today was A35V on KX3 picnic table portable

as my 20 to 10 mtr vertical. The new "vertical" is tie wrapped to a 3 ft high
chain link fence. Two 17 ft radials are laid out. 50 ohm coax as the feed,
about six feet long straight to the KX3. Built in auto tuner tunes it easily to
a 1:1 match on 20 to 10 meters. It will load on 40 but the final swr is high
and did not try 80 or 160 or even 6 mtrs yet. We will leave the area and return
back to the states in JUL so not going crazy with antennas here.and all of
my operations here will be picnic portable until we leave.

Worked A35V on 12 meters ssb, I was xmitting 4 watts into the tent pole
vertical. Took a few calls but got him with my JA call of JH1JCM/QRP.

My Eneloop batteries were straight out of the packaginghad not even did a
charge yet but the KX3 indicated the voltage was 8.7 so I figured I would give
it a try. They worked.

There are a lot of menu driven options with this rig and overall I prefer a
simpler rig such as the Argo VI which I almost bought but hopefully over the
next few weeks of very casual operating I will get to know the knob functions
better. Impressed with the build quality and the display is awesome. The CMP
seems to have a major positive impact on SSB.

The SSB monitor sounds weird thoughwhen I engage the SSB monitor circuit it
sounds like it is being processed digitally and has that "in the cave" dsp
sound to itdo not like the way the monitor sounds so I must be doing
something wrong.

Still slowly figuring this rig out. Eneloops are charging now off of my Astron
SS30. Expect to have full charge in 10 hours. Will see how long they last
before needing charging again.

Bought the optional paddle but have not hooked it up yet. More to follow.

[Elecraft] Eneloop 2500 mah batteries

2014-04-10 Thread lane zeitler
Just received my Sanyo eneloop 2500 mAH rechargeable batteries niMH
cells..will start the charge cycle when I get home from work tonight. How
long should I charge them for...this will be the first charge and I have not
used the radio yet at all with these new batteries.

Also, if I keep the xmit power down to about 3watts what kind of operation time
can I expect with casual SSB xmissions? Any thoughts on this are appreciated,
thanks.
