[Elecraft] K2 PA Heatsink
Hi all, I have been using my K2 10W version for some 18 months now and discovered the other day that the fixings holding the PA transistors Q7 Q8 to the bottom part of the case could do with a little tightening, (cautiously tightened). I guess even these thermal pads do shrink a little. Colin m1bnw ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] Elecraft UK Distribution. No Thank You!
I agree with the comments here. If we ever end up with Elecraft selling only through UK dealers we would end up paying £1 for every $1 of original price. That would end it for me. Regards Colin m1bnw - Original Message - From: Rowland [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2007 2:09 PM Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft UK Distribution. No Thank You! Julian G4ILO wrote I have decided to get my order in before one of the UK dealers asks for exclusive UK distribution rights and we all end up having to pay twice the price. I certainly hope not Julian. That must have been a bad dream about the K3 you had last night! That in my opinion would be a retrograde step for Elecraft. My experiences with dealers and distributors in the UK have not been good in the main part. It would put me off purchasing. I would rather deal direct any time. Elecraft seem to have it right for me with what they are doing at present. PLEASE DON'T GO DOWN THAT ROAD I have no experience of the German appointed distributor however.# I hope you have sweeter dreams tonight Julian. 73 to all on the list. [Elecraft] Morse test elemination
In my view CW is the key to all amateur radio. It will never disappear and it will always feature on every rig that is ever made. [Elecraft] Rework Eliminators
For some time I had been aware of the Rework Eliminator kit from Unpcbs for use in the K2. At the time I could see no real use for me. However having built my K2 and used it for some time I felt I wanted to restore it to its original state to carry out some initial alignment checks and compare original performances. So this was the time for me to get the Rework Eliminator Ordering the kit was easy and I was pleased to receive the latest version 'G'. When it arrived I was amazed at the outstanding quality of the unit. The printed circuit boards are fantastic, the written building information is very good. These two guys have gone to a lot of trouble and it beats me how they do it for the price. For me I happy that I now have a very good restoration tool which will only enhance my interest in exploring more into the fantastic K2. [Elecraft] K2
Dear all, K2 serial number 4149 was completed today and seems to be quite alive. Many thanks to all those who have helped me from Elecraft and all you other special experts out there. [Elecraft] K2 Excessive Current
To Jim K4ZM, Don W3FPR, Rolf 0H6KXL Martin Renardy, Thanks for all your advice on my excessive current consumption on my K2. I did eventually find that I had a fault on the Control board in the 8 V Switching circuitry. The FET Q3 had failed and was turning on the 8 volt supply via Q1 to the Transmit side of the circuitry at the same time that the 8 volt to the Receive side was on. I think I saw a tiny wisp of a wire lodged in between the legs of the FET Q3 on the component side of the board. It looked like the Gate of the FET had been grounded to the Source. After replacing the FET the current dropped back to 200 mA which is what you all suggest it should be and the TX 8 volt supply was turned off. I'm not sure where the excess current was going in the fault condition but it is normal now. It seems that you can't examine your work enough before powering up. [Elecraft] K2 Power Consumption
Dear All, I have reached the Alignment and Test, Part II of the construction of my K2 4149. When I power up the quiescent current at a supply of 13.7v is 300mA. This seems high to me when I read what is quoted in the K2 Manual. Can anyone remember what their current figures were at this stage in the construction ? I seem to remember having about 150mA for the first stage of the building. I have checked some on board voltages and all seems fairly close the quoted figures. I have not yet started any of the alignment tests as this power figure bothers me. Nothing seems to be getting too hot either. My power supply does have a built in current meter so the figures are accurate. Would appreciate any feed back. [Elecraft] K2 XTALS
I am buiding a K2 sn 004149 from an earlier non built K2 sn 000571 up to rev 'B' on the new 'B' pc boards. I also have an early KSB2 SSB unit. All the above has the original XTALS for the CW filter and SSB unit.ie 4.195MHz -20. I have read lots of comments on the audio quality because of the tight band pass of the original SSB unit. I know that Elecraft have produced some modifications in the form of 14 new XTALs and a capacitor upgrade kit. Does anyone have experience of these mods ? Is there a basic capacitor upgrade that one can do first of all? Or is changing all the XTALs and adding new capacitors the best solution? Or is the original configuration ok?
