Re: [Elecraft] [K3] #174 band limits

2007-12-19 Thread David Ferrington, M0XDF
Thanks, the difference was kindly pointed out to me in another post, so my
fears were unfounded.
On the transmitting out-of-band side of things - no problems, I have a brain
that passed the full license, it knows were not to go!

David - The bands for Region 2 are wider than those for Region 1, so if
you have got the USA Band Limit all you need to watch is transmitting
outside the UK bands. I am assured by Eric, or was it Wayne, that the
different channels for UK 5MHz permit holders will be unaffected.
Opening the rig up, as you put it, would be unwise as it would enable
you to operate high power CB. Now you wouldn't want to do that, would
 you?

Please note that the K3 -always- blocks high power TX in the CB band,
regardless of what is programmed in for band TX limits.

I got one of those brain things too, but by day 2 of a contest it needs
all the help it can get.

It would be really helpful to have user-configurable frequency points
where the rig will emit a warning beep as the operator tunes through.
Nothing else, just a discreet warning.

For example, I can always use a reminder when crossing the edges of the
beacon bands. Another use would be to program a beep at the frequency
limits that might be written into the rules of a particular contest.

Since other people might have different frequencies of interest, or
might not want the facility at all, it would need to be
user-configurable.

Configuration could be as simple as:
1. Set menu item
2. Tune to a frequency
3. Press something to toggle beep on/off.

Obviously not urgent, but maybe worth considering for the longer term.

[Elecraft] [K3] #174 band limits

2007-12-18 Thread David Ferrington, M0XDF
Just looking over my K3, the front panel assy. says 'Band Limit: USA'
Obviously I what to be able to use UK limits, so does anyone know how to
open this rig up.
Will this be something I'll be able to do in future?
Personally, I'd prefer there to be no limits - I am after all, a full
licensed amateur and supposed to be aware of the Licence conditions.
