[Elecraft] Data modes changing in K3

2018-02-11 Thread Tony Osman
Not sure if this is an elecraft issue or a N1MM+ issue, so I will pose
the question in both groups.  I noticed this weekend in the CQWPX RTTY
contest, that everytime I changed frequency by some action on the pc
(N1MM+) the frequency would change correctly, but each time the data
mode would switch from the AFSK A mode that I had selected to FSK mode.
I would then have to change it manually each time.

Any ideas?

Re: [Elecraft] data modes (USB/LSB or DATA) using KIO3B sound card interface

2016-02-12 Thread Bob McGraw K4TAX
I have the K3S USB cable connected direct to one of the USB ports on the
computer. As to radio set-up, see page 33 of the manual for details. I
use DATA A mode for PSK & other data modes. The software is usually
FLDIGI, HRD/DM780 or WSJT-X which all work under Windows 10 successfully
and do control all aspects of the radio. The DATA A mode is not the
typical or normal USB/LSB mode in that it releases any TX EQ and CMP
values used for SSB.

The computer Device Manager reports the radio under "Ports (COM & LPT)"
as "USB Serial Port (COM 5)". Depending on your computer, your port
number may be different.

Audio, PTT and CAT control of the radio is handled by the single USB
cable installation. None of the rear panel connections are used other
than the USB port on the radio.

Probably a simple answer to this question -- I'm just having trouble

Re: [Elecraft] data modes (USB/LSB or DATA) using KIO3B sound card interface

2016-02-11 Thread Don Wilhelm

John,

That K3 internal soundcard should appear to the computer just like any
other USB soundcard. That can be computer dependent, so no specific
advice can be given.

Select that soundcard in your data mode application and you should be
"good to go" other than adjusting the soundcard levels.

Use DATA A rather than SSB because the K3 automatically turns off
compression and sets the TX EQ flat.
Adjust the soundcard output audio level to drive the K3 ALC meter to 4
bars solid with the 5th bar flashing, and you are ready to transmit.
Adjust the soundcard input level to suit a reasonable display on your
application's waterfall.

Re: [Elecraft] Data modes issue

2011-01-10 Thread GREG FICHER
Had a similar problem once. Somehow the mixer volume setting for the
signalink was reduced. It needs to be turned all the way up.

I'm not home right now but go to control panel, audio, it probably shows
whatever the default soundcard is on your system. Change that to the USB
Audio Codec. Open the playback settings and make sure the slider is all the
way to the top for volume.

Don't forget to change the default back to your system soundcard or your
computer audio will come out from the Signalink.

Re: [Elecraft] Data modes issue

2011-01-08 Thread Don Wilhelm
  Jim,

Are you getting enough audio into the K3? Set the K3 to TX TEST and
look at the ALC bargraph. You should have 4 bars lighting solid with
the 5th bar possibly blinking.
If you are not seeing that indication on the ALC meter in the K3, you
are not driving the Line-in with enough audio.

The K3 ALC meter is also a VU meter on the lower part of the scale.
Indication below 5 bars indicate no ALC is being generated - ALC action
begins with the 5th bar. So if you followed the old advice that you
should not have any ALC indication for DATA modes, that old advice must
be modified for the K3.

The K3 Line-in expects to see line level signals. If you are using an
external interface, some by default use microphone level for the output
and you must change a jumper in the box to bring it up to line level.

Check to see if audio is coming out of your computer,

And set up K3 in data mode.
Not sure what program you use, I'm using,
However I have not been on psk for a while.

Just got my new K3 and everything is great about it except, sound card
data modes (PSK31, etc.) are not working. I put the radio in Data A
mode. When I transmit, the rig is keyed, I can hear audio via the
monitor function, but nothing is transmitted. I have tried cranking the
Mic gain (actually the line in gain) way up, but that doesn't help. I
have also confirmed the transmitter is not in test mode.

 Any suggestions?

I just checked the Navigator documentation on the website. It does not
state whether line level output is available or not, but there is an
option called RF ATTN which by default inserts 20 dB attenuation into

to No Attenuation.

Re: [Elecraft] Data Modes Software for Mac

2010-04-27 Thread lstavenhagen

I'll second cocoaModem as I've used it a bit with my Mac/K3 (tho I'm short on
computers right now and am confined to an indoor antenna which severly
limits my ability to use a computer with my K3). It's excellent, IMO, and
has modems for a bunch of different modes (W7AY is also a career specialist
in this kind of work so it's no surprise that the data modes on it work
really well). It's very easy to use and really works superbly.

RUMlog is also a nice logging app with built-in keyers for CW and PSK, it
has some integration with cocoaModem as well. It talks to the rig through a
USB-RS232 adaptor, tho, so you'll need one of those to use it with the K3.

cocoaModem, tho, only requires audio cables between your sound card and the
line in/outs on the K3 (just key the rig with VOX).

fldigi has more modes/protocols but an interface that Mac purists

cocoaModem will inter-operate seamlessly with MacLoggerDX - the

Re: [Elecraft] Data Modes Software for Mac

2010-04-27 Thread Rick Prather
I have used MacLoggerDX and cocoaModem for years and use RUMlog for sorting
out my QSL's and packet alerts based on my needs.

Since RUMlog has now incorporated some excellent K3 access it has become my
primary logger and also with it's tight integration with the K3 and
cocoaModem it's my main data mode engine.

RUMlog has an info panel with a bunch of information taken from the K3 and
also access to M1-M8 for either CW or SSB DVR. And, it also has 10 buttons
that you can use to key Macros.

I still use MacLoggerDX for it's look and feel and QRZ.com linking so I wind
up running both loggers and cocoaModem.

[Elecraft] Data modes

2008-08-31 Thread Ross
I have been playing with my new K3 (and enjoying it).
It looks like it will take over from my Orion II as my main tx.

A question.. Changing the data mode to AFSK A the bandwidth sets itself up for
RTTY, as it is supposed to,
BUT when I go back to Data A the bandwith is still set up as for RTTY ie very
narrow.
I have found the only way to set the bandwidth again to say 2.7khz is to
readjust the width using width and lo

Is this normal, or am I expecting too much for the K3 to go back to a normal
bandwidth when changing data modes
from AFSK A to data A

Best wishes to all

I think you are. AFSK A, DATA A, FSK D and PSK D are all the same mode
really (they are reported as the same mode to logging software as well.) So
it remembers just one filter selection.

connetion setup. So posted a couple help messages on the site. Got great
help from several folks.
Did what they suggested and still was scrathing my head. So left the shack
for a while had lunch and came back and started from scratch. Duh had
the transmit cable in the wrong hole on the sound card. Between my eye site
and computer being on the floor, was an easy miss. Now all is working great!
And thanks again for all the help guys.
