2022-03-12 Thread kevin

Good Evening again,

I missed the time change, again.  Here are the summer time notes.
Please notice I will keep the half hour differential.  As the sun moves
a little more, the forty meter net can move to z.  For now it will
be at 2330z.

14050 kHz at 2200z Sunday (3 PM PDT Sunday)
7047 kHz at 2330z Monday (4:30 PM PDT Sunday)

2021-10-31 Thread kevin
I worked through the nets in my memory and I did not feel right. I was
certain I had worked Roy in Iowa but didn't remember typing his name.  I
was right, I had made a mistake.  Mea culpa.

W0CZ - Ken - ND
NO8V - John - MI
=> K6XK - Roy - IA <=
K0DTJ - Brian - CA

K4JPN - Steve - GA

  On 7047.5 kHz at z:

KG7V - Marv - WA
W0CZ - Ken - ND
K0DTJ - Brian - CA
KL7CW - Rick - AK
K6PJV - Dale - CA

Until next week 73,

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net errata and antenna changes

2019-12-10 Thread kevinr

Good Afternoon,

Today was a good day to work on antennas.  Steady rain, dense fog,
and light winds.  When I first raised this antenna I had few choices for
where each leg could go.  After the recent thinning my options are much
greater.  So I moved the leg which was at 300 degrees to point at 10
degrees.  The leg which is now at 140 degrees would be better at 190
degrees but that will take some work with a chainsaw.  Chainsaws and
muddy footing don't mix so I will wait for a drier day.  While there is
a tall cedar right where I want it there are three young hemlocks in the
way.  If I take out the middle one all will be well.

I woke up yesterday with AZ on my mind.  During breakfast I decoded that
cryptic thought.  Someone had told me QTH AZ but I did not remember
putting that state in my report.  After checking it and actually reading
my notes I found the problem.

K0JFJ - Nick - TX   should read      K0JFJ - Nick - AZ

Sorry Nick, though depending on where you live in Texas it can be like
living in Arizona.  But then there are many places which are not
similar.  There is no comparison between Flagstaff, AZ and Houston, TX;
each has its unique features.

Hopefully the new antenna placement will aim farther south than did the
previous arrangement.  I put a T-square on a map of the US and used that
to determine where to place each leg.  If I had a true dipole over 1/2
wavelength above the ground the main lobe would point at North
Carolina.  But each leg's end is not as high as is the center.  The
interior angle is around 150 degrees so the antenna is not quite an
inverted V but the propagation pattern should be wider than a true
dipole.  I found when I dropped the ends of a shorter antenna stations
to my north and south were stronger.  Next Sunday I get to test it on
both 20 and 40 meters.

   Until then 73,

      Kevin.  KD5ONS

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Errata

2006-10-09 Thread Kevin Rock

Last night I reported: K4DXU - Bill - TN - KX1 - 702

This should read:
K4DXU - Bill - TN - K2 - 5540

The other error on my part was: W6WY - Pete - CA - KX1 - 239 My records
have 279; ...

It really should be:
W6WY - Pete - CA - KX1 - 279

I had copied each correctly but missed the first one entirely in my notes
and the second one was not clear in my mind. Hmmm ... I need a
proofreader!

Until Sunday,

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Errata

2006-03-13 Thread Kevin Rock
One error this week. I copied the call just fine. But then I transposed
two characters and then cut and pasted it so the same errors shows up
twice. Maybe that should be counted as two errors ;) But I wanted to get
to soldering and did not go over the lists again for accuracy. I did
study the punctuation however.

The error?
K5TE - Jay - CO - KX1 - 969

Should really read:
KT5E - Jay - CO - KX1 - 969

Close, but not close enough.

Just before I went to bed I ran through my rough notes from EQP. I made
more contacts than I thought! I had fun too. Maybe next year I will try
to spend more time at it and work more than three bands.

Sorry for the break in the daily Elecraft news.
   Kevin. KD5ONS

P.S. Ask Jay what he uses for an antenna and feedline. I think you will
be surprised.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Errata

2006-02-20 Thread Kevin Rock

Mea Culpa

I lost one of you in the shuffle between copy notes and the final list.

Please add one more QNI to the 20 meter list between WA5ZNU and W0CZ.

   W0YG - Chas - CO - K2 - 4853

I heard him very, very well. However I did not transcribe him to the list
when I made it during a lull.

Please accept my apologies for yet another error in my paper shuffling.

2006-01-08 Thread Kevin Rock

I knew it. As soon as I posted I found an error.

I left off

NK8Q - Mark - PA - K2 - 4786

I heard him very well as Dave was calling but just missed transcribing his
information to the keyboard :(

He was a solid S7 with very little flutter. Curt was another good signal,
but then he is west of me and most probably on the beach with a nice salt
water ground :)

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Errata

2006-01-02 Thread Kevin Rock

Good Afernoon,
I am forwarding this note from Jason so I can get my act together. For
some reason my roster has him as AK7A but in another place it has him as
AK7V. Since I never heard him and Tom did I should not second guess.
Ooops! Another error to watch for. Some day I may learn how to do this
:) (Please don't hold your breath now).

   Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

So sorry to hear about your wife. She sounds like she
was quite a neat person.

I couldn't hear you at all during the 20m net
yesterday either, but Tom N0SS was a solid 579 here in
Seattle. Just wanted to correct my call with you - it
is AK7V, not AK7A. I was out and about during the 40m
net, so I didn't get a chance to listen for you. I
have trouble hearing or being heard by anything on 40m
after dark - I think once the band starts going long,
my antenna starts "going south." :)

Take care and happy new year!

73,
Jason

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net errata

2005-04-25 Thread Kevin Rock

First off I have KL7CC's serial number incorrect:

Jim's K2 is 3935.

But the most egregious error was not in circling a call sign on my list.

W1TF - Ty - GA - K1 - 1423

Just wrote me a note. He was indeed copied on the 20 meter net last
night. He was in my notes but I failed to circle the call sign. This is
how I assure the calls wind up on my list for the roll call at the end of
the net. Thus he missed being listed in my report as well.

Now for the great news. With that one extra QNI ECN has had 1500 check
ins since day one.

I know we have missed a few over that period but we keep trying. Last
night we missed two that would have been nice. Geoff from Scotland heard
VE3XL (Ric) check in and Bob, F5UL, from France heard Tom but we did not
hear either one of these folks. Bands were pretty good last night but the
ops who run this crazy net were not on the ball. Well at least one of us
was not on the ball!

Please keep trying so we can get to the 3000 mark. Closer in time will be
the second anniversary on June 6th. That one should be fun. I hope the
band conditions are great that day so we can work 30 stations or more.

73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)

2005-02-28 Thread Kevin Rock
Sorry folks, I seem to have given Russ, N9IV the wrong rig. Not once but
twice. I cannot justify nor determine how in the world a 0 became a 2.
My records all have him owning 4650. How I gave him 4652 I will never
know. My apologies to Russ and to whomever may own 4652. Hopefully this
is one of the few errors I made last night (other than sending the odd dit
or dah to drive Tom crazy ;)

Have a great week folks,

2004-10-18 Thread Kevin Rock

Sorry Fred.

The information listed:
K6DGW - Fred - CA - K2 - 4298
Should read 4398.

One of these days I am going to strap myself down and play 2s and 3s at
myself for a few hours until I can tell them apart! I'll need to add an
equal proportion of QRN, QRM, and QSB to make it more like running the net
however. The noise level should equal or exceed the signal strength to
make it fair to my ears. The best would be to make the noise the same
frequency as my side tone with the same period as the dits. One of these
days I will learn CW!
