[Elecraft] KX3 Dual Watch
Good morning, The KX3 has a nice Dual Watch feature. It is however, of limited use when the DX is weak and the callers are strong (a common case here). To overcome this problem I have build a simple two channels audio amplifier with 2 LM380N (Manhattan style) with independent volumn controls. I can Independently boost the VFO A signal in one channel and reduce the VFO B in the other Channel. But some VFO A signal seems to leak into the VFO B channel and visa versa. I can not observe any signal leakage when using an audio generator as test input. Has anyone observed something similar? Does the KX3 Dual Watch feature only offer a limited channel separation or have I wired my amplifier wrongly? Thank you in advance. 73 OZ7BQ Hans Jørgen Sendt fra min iPhone __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft KX3: Dual Watch or Split - newbie Dave needs help!
Dave, I don't know how you are hearing both VFO frequencies at the same time with only SPLIT engaged (unless you have Dual Watch turned on at the same time). With split (and not Dual Watch), you have VFO A in both ears. If you use the REV button, you can hear on the VFO B frequency (again in both ears). You do not hear both at once. You can swap the VFOs with the A/B button. Without SPLIT, transmit will be on VFO A, but with SPLIT turned on, transmit will be on VFO B - observe the direction the arrow is pointing on the display to see which VFO will be used for transmit. If you turn on Dual Watch, you will hear both VFOs as long as they are not separated by more than +/- 15 kHz. You may or may not want to use SPLIT in conjunction with Dual Watch - usually you would want to use SPLIT, but not necessarily - say you want to use VFO B to scour around the band area while carrying on a non-split QSO on the VFO A frequency. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/22/2014 2:02 PM, Esquer Dave wrote: Hello folks, Newbie Dave, K6WDE/KH6 with my Elecraft KX3. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft KX3: Dual Watch or Split - newbie Dave needs help!
Hi Dave - When I'm trying to get a DX station that is working split or during the QRP Fox hunts, I use Dual Watch and Split together. Before engaging, I tune in the "target" station to suit my hearing pitch preference, then I press A-->B twice to get both VFO's equal. Next I hit Split and then Dual Watch. Using the small tuning knob, I tune VFO-B up to a point where I want to transmit - either on the frequency of the guy currently being worked, or into a "hole" where there are few strong signals present. I can hear the DX / Fox station in my left headphone and the "pack" in the right ear. I also use NaP3 as a visual display to actually "see" where the pack is operating - helps a lot! Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Dual Watch Audio Balance question / feature request
No way to do this at present, Andreas. However, you might try setting the AGC threshold to 4, which will flatten large signals more in relation to weak ones. [Elecraft] KX3 Dual Watch Audio Balance question / feature request
OK, so, I just got a KX3 and I think I am a bit spoiled by the K3 feature set :-) Is there a way to balance the audio between the two VFO’s when using Dual Watch? I often have the problem that the DX is really weak and the pile up is really loud. On the K3 there is an audio mixer control which I absolutely love and a balance control for left and right. I could use an external headphone amp to do that, but I though it wouldn’t hurt to ask. 73, Andreas, N6NU __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] KX3 dual-watch working (ahead of schedule!)
the big difference with using the VE7CC pgm to access the VE7CC cluster or using DXLabs spot collector to access the VE7CC cluster With VE&CC pgm if you click on a spot which has a split info entered in the comment field in VE7CC the K3 will change VFO A to the spotted frequency but does not change the K3's VFO B to the split frequency nor does it place the K3 into split operations if you are using DXLabs spotcollector and commander and click on that same spot the K3 shifts the VFO A to the DX frequency it also changes the VFO B to the split frequency and places the K3 into split operation also if you have the 2nd receiver installed VFO B is also placed in sub hope I said all that correctly GB & 73 K5OAI Sam Morgan On 3/9/2012 2:55 PM, Jim McDonald wrote: > I agree and wanted to mention that you can choose any telnet cluster in the > Configuration-->Cluster (Telnet) list. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 dual-watch working (ahead of schedule!)
I agree and wanted to mention that you can choose any telnet cluster in the Configuration-->Cluster (Telnet) list. I prefer a node that uses VE7CC's node software, CC Cluster. Telnet clusters are much more configurable than web clusters and send spots real-time rather that at pre-set intervals. I use CC User to feed the DXLab Suite, http://www.dxlabsuite.com/ , but CC User used standalone can interface with a K3 (it's in the Port Setup window). http://www.ve7cc.net/ 73, Jim N7US -Original Message- On Thu, Mar 8, 2012 at 10:14 PM, Wayne Burdick wrote: > Now I'm looking for my first DX split QSO with dual watch. Wayne, Well done! Dual watch has been a limitation of smaller rigs for a long time - that is until now Here is a list of DX clusters. Pick the one that is closest to your QTH.
